Staten Island native Jamie O’Hare, who will be one of the top seniors in New York City next season, has committed to play women’s basketball at Lafayette, her NYC Heat travel coach Kevin White told The Post on Sunday.

O’Hare, a Post All-City third team selection, led St. Peter’s to a 16th straight – and last – CHSAA Staten Island title in the winter. The school shut its doors for good in June due to financial difficulties and O’Hare will play next year at Moore Catholic. After that it will be Lafayette, which the sharpshooting 5-foot-5 guard chose over Wagner, Navy and Army, among others.

"Lafayette, I just wanted," O'Hare said. "It was my No. 1 pick. When I saw the school, it seemed perfect."

“That’s all people were talking about in Chicago was how well Jamie O’Hare was playing at point guard,” Heat coach Kevin White said. “That’s where [Lafayette] foresees her...

Her toughness is also something that stands out. White said O’Hare got elbowed in the face in Chicago before shaking her head “like a prize fighter” and coming right back into the game.

“She’s a nice, scrappy point guard who fits the Staten Island mold well,” one college coach said. “She’s fearless and willing to take on all comers. O’Hare is dead-eye from 3 when she gets a clean look.”

Now when she heads to Washington, D.C. this weekend for the USJN/Nike National Championship, O’Hare won’t have to worry about all eyes being on her anymore. Lafayette will be her future home.

“I loved everything about it,” O’Hare said. “The campus was beautiful. The coaching staff was great. They were really nice. I loved them.”

Saw her play this summer at the prospect camp on campus. I was focused on our incoming recruits but do remember her as a hard nosed kid. All over the court high energy. Another good pickup.
