Johns Hopkins to Build New $10 MM Lacrosse Center

Quote:
In a press conference this afternoon (02/15/2011), John Hopkins president Ronald J. Daniels announced that the university will build a new lacrosse center that will be "100% supported" by benefactors and supporters of the programs, among them David Cordish, after whom the facility will be named.

Also speaking at the event were Director of Athletics Tom Calder and head coaches Dave Pietramala and Janine Tucker, who were extremely pleased with the prospect of the new building.

The 14,000 square foot facility at Homewood Field will cost an estimated $10 million to construct and serve both the men's and women's programs. The ceremonial groundbreaking will take place in April, with construction scheduled to begin in June.

Johns Hopkins lacrosse is the principal reason why those institutions with "limited exceptions" to the all-sports-at the-same-NCAA-level rule are taking undue advantage.  I am of the opinion that Hopkins, with its $2 billion-plus endowment, ought to participate in Division I in all sports just like everyone else.  Does anybody seriously think that the new Fisher Field would have been given a pass if the Pards played DIII football like Hopkins?

President Weiss - as the former Dean of Students at Johns Hopkins, do you disagree?
