Lafayette 65, Colgate 42

Someone needed to acknowledge this.  True, "it's only Colgate," but (1) a rout/never in doubt!, (2) balanced scoring (4 in double figures with Jordan at 9), and (3) unbelievably, this team lost to the Raiders the first time around - with Fiacco.  McGorry had a double-double (10/10).  Not many laffers for this team in the past decade, and you could tell they were enjoying themselves.

After simultaneously watching a pitiful performance by the Colgate men - at home, no less - and, for the first time seeing (on my computer screen, thanks to a heads up from Bogie) the empty barn in Hamilton, one has to ask if, Adonal Foyle notwithstanding, the 'gaters should not send hoops to the same place they sent their baseball program and just become McGill south, concentrating on the great American  Rolling Eyes game of hockey.

Lafayette vs Colgate basketball previous 4 yrs:

Women  3-5
Men        5-5

The gals came out and played great team ball last night, ton of assists 1st half. Love it when Keisha takes it to the hoop. Nobody better.  She was also the assist leader.

Your stats only intensify my incredulity.  They frequently have an all-League type performer on their otherwise undistinguished roster.  How does that happen?  How do they recruit guys who can play into that environment?!  Our recruiting has not been top flight of late, and not many are saying that we have a great - or even a college - facility.  Still, if Lafayette gets in a "big game" at home or even gets on a run, Kirby is rockin'.  There is interest and we are always just a player or two away from being every bit as hoops crazy as the Buffalos or 'saders.  We actually have a better recruiting environment, in my opinion, than Lehigh who have been getting better talent and having their way with us of late.

Agree 100% Carney.   Lafayette is still by far the most popular basketball school in the Valley.  Even last year when Lehigh won the league they still got their usual 700 fans at Stabler.  We get twice that even when we stink.

When Lafayette has a strong team fan interest is very high, and Kirby is close to full.   What I can't understand is why Lehigh is getting better recruits.  Lehigh Basketball plays second fiddle to wrestling, and we have perhaps the best game day coach in the league.  We have batted around a few reasons, but it is still a valid question.

Although I wasnt crazy about his on-court persona including some of the show-up the opponent antics,  Zahir Carrington came off as a well spoken, intelligent young man during the national broadcast the other day with John Feinstein. He would've been a fine addition to our campus. If, as Xbo posted, ZC was denied admission here, it was a huge mistake. LC is often its own worst enemy.

There ya go.  The last administration tried to destroy a rich tradition and very visible and positive resource.  The current administration, marching under an ideological banner, is content to starve it and hope that it goes away.  And, by the way, the College gets a lot more potential bang for its athletic buck - simply because it takes far fewer bucks - out of hoops than it does out of football.  There is a lot of short sightedness on our Hill.

I should look - but can we break out the home vs. away on this? I can tell you from my time that the trip to Hamilton was the worst one of the year. Holy Cross was longer - but at least you went up the day before. It's a long drive in the depths of winter to play in an atmosphere that doesn't even match a good scrimmage. That court is worth 20 points...(Enter Bison guy who is going to prove to me that it's not that bad using the worst kind of logic: facts). I hated that whole scene. Oh I love Upstate NY and think Hamilton is wonderful 3 seasons a year...but add the weather and the stale environment - it's tough to play up there.

From the articles I read Lehigh's team was in complete shock when they lost to the Raiders earlier this year. I'm telling you - it may be time to think of the "Cotterell Curse."

OK -

Colgate women: 5-4 at home. 2-10 away.
Men: 3-7 at home, 3-11 away.

It looks like the men were 6-5 at home last year and 4-14 away from the friendly confines of Cotterell.

This is basketball. Home court matters - so I can't make too much out of it I guess.

There are no facts available that could make Cotterell Court appear attractive.      Laughing

They don't even try to make it funky and old school like Harvard's
Lavietes Pavilion or Fordham's Rose Hill Gym. It's just blah and kind of barren and ugly.

Say what you want about KSC, but it's a still a fun, comfortable place to see a game and it's as good as any in the PL when it gets full with foot-stomping fans.

I'm of two minds here.  Chairbacks can be more comfortable and give the place a "bigger time" look.  On the other hand, at least for basketball, chairbacks can be more confining.  The benches give you a little room to spread out and change seats; maybe a spot to rest your cheesefries and coke.  I think the chairbacks at Colgate look just plain silly, to tell you the truth.

I know I'm in the minority, but I like KSC and I like the look and feel of the authentic wooden bleachers.  Any conversion to chairbacks at KSC would really have to be done right; you can't just shoehorn them in there.  I used to be in favor of retractable chairbacks for KSC, but now I'm not so sure.

I like Kirby as well but it doesn't matter.  Recruits are not impressed - I'm not sure they are shown the locker rooms!

Time for a rich alum to step up and build us a new facility!
