Lafayette 73, Wagner 67A win is a win, I guess. Brown led scoring with 22. Benbow was apparently leading rebounder with 9.

Every win...Every win this year will be good.

I'm a little tired right now so I won't comment on the win is a win remark.
We played a good team tonight and beat them on their own floor. Yes, we made some errors and at times we forgot how to box out. Yet, the kids played hard. They hustle the entire game. Fran played alot of kids (11), There was good ball movement. The shots weren't dropping but they made the plays when they had to!
Wagner security had more than they could handle with one pump up lafayette student/fan. He was great. I never saw one kid take on the whole Wagner student body (and he won).
Bottom line, we're 1-0.

Any win is definitely a good win, but it's very unlikely that Wagner is a "good team". They graduated their three best players from last year plus one other rotation player - guys who accounted for over 60% of every single statistical category for them last year. They lost their top two scorers, top two rebounders, top in assists, etc. They were picked for 8th this year in the weak NEC.

I saw Wagner picked sixth in one preview, but they are not going to be very good, they lost four starters from a 23-8 team.
This season we have to hope that Brown stays healthy. This is the weirdest distribution of players, in terms of classes, I have seen.

What you say is true Bison137 but its only half the truth. You only looked at one team. Lafayette lost 5 of its first 7 players on last years team. So you don't have to look them up, which you obviously didn't, they are Betley, Abdullah, Detmer, Schmidt, and Cummins. Further, if you look at last night's minutes, you will see that almost 50% of them came from guys who didn't play or played very little last year.
I hope you'll agree that both teams are in rebuilding mode. And a win against a team on the road and with a coach who has won almost 60% of his D1 games over 22 years is a good win. BTW, Lafayette is now 4-1 lifetime against the Seahawks, while the Bison are only 3-6 going into 11/29s game at Sojka.

I was only addressing the issue of whether Wagner is a "good team", so it clearly was not half of anything. I know exactly who LC lost - I wouldn't have had to look any of them up - and I fully agree it was a large part of last year's productivity. And I also know exactly how many minutes came from guys who played few or no minutes last year. And I fully agree that both teams are in rebuilding modes. And I agree that any win is a good win - in fact I already said it in my original post.
I just disagree that this year's Wagner squad can be called a "good team". I'm not sure how Mike Deane's career record at Siena and Marquette (and Lamar) is relevant to the quality of this year's Wagner team - the one that is picked for 8th in the NEC. At Wagner, btw, Deane has had one winning season (last year) in five years - following on the heels of three good years under Whittenburg.
Oh, and I completely agree that the Lafayette teams of the mid-70's that beat Wagner were a lot better than the Bucknell teams of the 50's and 60's that had a losing record against them. I'm not sure what that proves however.

Wagner beat Bucknell last year. Please note the point about relativity. I don't think Bucknell, after losing Badmus, McNaughton, and Brown said "we lost our best players so we are not a good team", so cut us some slack here.
Did you end up getting getting a verbal from the Pa PG-Randall? You have a young point that you are banking on but I am not sure you don't need a lot more help.

Bison 137 I respect your knowledge of PL hoops and always like to see your posts as you fill in a lot of blanks for guys like me who just don't have the time to keep up anymore with anybody but the 'Pards--but don't rain on our parade! We beat a legit D1 team on the road (one we routinely compete for recruits with) with a team nobody is expecting anything at all from.
And heck...Wagner may turn out to be good...We'll worry about that later.
Let us have this!
Benbow's 9 boards really surprise me given his ridiculously lean frame. I guess he's a leaper and a battler--I'm very encouraged by that.
Looking forward to tomorrow evening. I plan to be there and have my usual seat underneath the basket unless things change--which they often do. Would love to meet some of you clowns. I met a couple guys last year and I think they'll tell you I'm harmless. Don't be shy...I'm not interested in outing anyone. The HC guys regularly get together and talk...We can take this to the next level. For those of you who aren't on to me--I usually bring two kids, and one is obviously adopted. My alter-ego is Aaron.
Will the Friends be selling anything black?

Can't get to tomorrow's game @#@$! Just saw some pic on the website. How many years are we going to wear those away unis? They still have the old pard on them! The college or friends couldn't get us new ones this year? I suppose they wouldn't wear them now anyway since they won in these.
Beat Lehigh!

Last year, the roster had Benbow at 6'6" 195 lbs. This year he is 6'7" 171 pounds.
Is he really as skinny as that? And if 171 pounds is accurate, am I correct in assuming that the weight "loss" from last year emanates out of more honesty on this year's roster as opposed to him having gone on a Slim Fast diet for the past six months?

He is extremely skinny, although I wouldn't have guessed that his weight is quite that low. I'm more inclined to consider this year's weight number more accurate than a freshman-year number, particularly since it isn't rounded off to the nearest 5 or 10 lbs. Although I would like to see him add more muscle, I'm less concerned about Benbow's weight in light of the fact that he played for a big-time program in high school -- St. Raymond's of NYC -- that plays big-time competition. Thus, I'm sure he faced many bulkier frontcourt players in high school, and he did reasonably well against them despite his lack of muscle. From what little I saw of him last year, he did appear to be considerably more athletic than most of our recent frontcourt players. I'm looking forward to seeing Benbow play more this year; hopefully, his athleticism and hight school experience going up against tough frontcourt players will help to minimize the impact of his lack of bulk.

So he weighs less than 5-11 Andrew Brown and he's 8 in taller? That's hard to believe. It must be a typo?

The guy is awfully lean...I might be inclined to believe it.

Last night(11/29): Wagner 83 Bucknell 79 (at Bucknell)
Hum!
Maybe Wagner does have a decent team?

Maybe Bucknell doesn't. Class of the league right now is American and Lehigh.
I'm hoping our guys can develop. Despite our recruiting dissappointments O hanlon is a very good on the floor coach.

Funny how over on the Bucknell board Wagner is suddenly a more experienced and better team than the one we played.......funny how revisionist history works.

im not going to speak for 137, but as a bucknell fan i will say that 1) wagner still isnt very good and 2) right now, bucknell isnt, either.

I think people forget that Bucknell is also breaking in a new coach. It will take a while for them to gel.
