Lafayette 84, Navy 69

Perhaps the biggest win of the year so far and no posts?  I was only able to catch a minute here and there on RCN and was hopeful that some of the regulars would be posting details and observations.  Laubach and Leone were ecstatic:  "Great, entertaining game."  "Best performance by Lafayette this year."

I heard we played a great game.  Sounds like Brown got his stroke back.

I've given up trying to figure this league out.

Did not have high expectations going into this one, but the boys played great.  They shot the lights out, going 26/48 (54.2%) from the field, 5/17 (29.4%) from 3PT, and an incredible 27/30 (90%) from the charity stripe.  They held their own on the boards as well.

Congrats on a great win!  Let's do it again at Bucknell on Wednesday.

Sorry for the delay in posting, just back from the Army-Lehigh game. Couldn't tell much about Lehigh, but Army is bad.

The story of todays game was Jared Mintz, 5 of 6 from the floor, 7 of 7 from the line, 10 rebounds, 2 steals and a block in 30 minutes. AB is shooting better - 8 of 16 (3 of 7 beyond the arc), 4 of 4 from the line for 23 points. Jeff Kari had some strong moves to the basket to get to the foul line and hit 8 of 8. He also made 3 of 7 from the floor to finish with 14. Darion Benbow played his best game of the season with of 3 of 4 from the floor and 3 of 4 from the line for 9 points to go with his 5 rebounds (and only 3 fouls) in 17 minutes.

The first half saw us shoot 61% and Navy 56% as the half ended 43-38. The defense tightened up in the second half holding the Mids to 31 points on 36% shooting. We tallied 41 points in the second half on 45% shooting. For the second game in a row, foul shooting was the difference - Navy was 16 of 25 (64%) while we made 27 of 30 (90%). Rebounds, fouls and turnovers were about even.

Navy closed to 5 or maybe 4 points late but Kari made a strong move to the basket for a foul and 2 points, next time down, Andrew drilled a 3 and it was over. To his credit, Lange did not try to drag out the last minute with useless fouls.

This comment from Andre Williams in the Mourning Crawl:

"Lafayette's 4-10 non-league schedule, which included an eight-game losing skid was not pleasing, but the team is on fire now and appears as capable as any team of winning the league title."

A bit of overstatement and hyperbole in my opinion, but a comment about the state of Patriot League basketball (with scholarships!), and affirmation that we are not looking at a last place team here as the coaches and SIDs predicted.

Our best game in a long time. This is the kind of output I expected from a Fran O team. Maybe the youngsters are starting to feel their oats. Let's keep it up in Lewisburg.

Go Pards!

Saw a replay of the game on MASN.  Very impressed with the way the offense was running.  Everyone seemed to be playing with confidence.  Lots of cuts and screens; good passing; lots of hustle.   If we play with that kind of energy every game, we'll do OK in the league.  Maybe not win but i can see a top 3-4 finish.

Still a bit slow on defense but the effort is there.
