Lehigh at UNH

Two observations - 1. The talent gap between CAA and Patriot League is on display on ESPN3. Lehigh looks like Lafayette with two first quarter interceptions leading to two UNH td's.Score now 22-0 after UNH goes for 2 just because they can. 2. We took the worst coach off the UNH staff when we got Link. Update Brangelone just went 37 yards for a td - score now 22-7. This is UNH's 13th consecutive year in post-season which started when Chip Kelly was offensive coordinator. Obvious to me that to realize Tavani's pipe dream of a national championship we must recruit to succeed in the post season rather than to try for Patriot Championship. That does not seem even remotely possible.UNH has now neutralized Brangalone's td with another of their own.Score now 29-7.One key play was a Lafayette like turnover on a Shafniskey  pic at the two after Lehigh got a turnover on downs on a fourth down interception.

If the Patriot League wants to compete regularly with the CAA and past the 1st round of the playoffs, then they neeed to adopt redshirting (not just their crazy medical redshirt rules). You are comparing apples and oranges because of the AI and the redshirting. It is too bad Shafnisky didn't start though...

Definitely true...no Cinderella story for the Patriot League this year. Lehigh gets scorched 64-21.

Colgate can't get kids in but they don't complain and still have winning seasons!

Very, very true.

I know it hurts some feelings but day in, day out, PL can't play with the CAA. But then I don't think that is the objective.

Crossan played HS football in Suffolk County NY not Tom's River. He was offered by Fordham not sure of other PL offers.  Also had high major lacrosse offers (Notre Dame)

And his brother Trent plays for us...

Sorry - I understood Bob Picosi(sic?) to say he was from Toms River. Maybe we should hand the ball to the brother.

Comparing most FCS teams to UNH program is a tough sell - very true academic standards are not high, but in a very competitive conference, Coach Mac has done the unthinkable.  13 straight FCS playoff appearances in a conference that has 5 different FCS Champions (and has played in the FCS final 9 times) in the last 20 years.  Put 5 teams in the playoffs last year and 4 this year.    Comparing any league to the CAA is like comparing any team to ND State over the last 5 years

My point is this- If we are going to enter the post season FBS football tournament we should be in it to win it rather than going to the post season only to be blown out.Football is not like basketball where we could never recruit to beat Kansas or Georgetown even though lightning has struck and some Patriot League teams have scored immense upsets. These upsets are occurring in basketball this season. However in football the right recruiter could get players who could compete in the CAA which is in the same NCAA subdivision as our league. It would be difficult but it could be done. I do not doubt for example that some of the recent very good Harvard teams could compete in the CAA. A recent Wall Street Journal article reported that Harvard has made an institutional commitment to compete in the basketball big time. They long ago committed to compete annually the Ivy football championship.Lafayette doesn't have the institutional will to make that kind of commitment even though Tavani has said in the past that his goal is to compete for a national championship.
