Leopards Take it to Morgan State!

I ran into a fellow board-member on the way to the sports center. My cover appears to be blown---I might be coming clean on who I am. It's only fair...I never liked being critical behind a pseudonym. Look for my official "outing" soon. There are perks--he had a couple of extra tickets and believe you me every dollar counts for this Leopard fan!

So I think it's safe to say we're all fit to be tied after we lost to Lamar. God I can't stand losing to those clowns. OK...It affects nothing as far as our overall season goes---but I did have the Lamar game penciled in as a W. So now I have us winning 16 games. Frickin Lamar.

The story of the night was Cristin Zavocki's 27 points. It may have been the quietest 27 points I've ever seen. She must have dropped 15 while I was at the john with my daggone son who thinks it's just FASCINATING that they have a urinal for people his size. I honestly had no idea she was having that kind of night--but when you can score 27 and only need 13 shots to do it--well that's gonna sneak up on people.

We played a lackluster first half. A lot of unforced TO's and questionable shot selection---and we still led by 9 at the half against a solid, if unspectaculary Morgan State team. We used to have to play error free ball to stay within a dozen of the teams we played.  We played textbook ball the first six minutes of the second half, outscoring MSU 17-4. Zavocki only had 3 of those 17 points. Seriously--I have no idea how she got 27 points. When Jim Finnen announced that we had witnessed a historic night I thought he was talking about Amanda Leone's first point. What great fans Amanda had! I wish I had friends like that who would come to cheer me on at work.

But here's to you Cristin....The Pepsi Player of the game! I am drinking one right now in your honor.

The crowds are hardly overwhelming at Kirby for this team but the atmosphere is vibrant. YOu can see an excitement brewing--people are really starting to believe we got something here.

My daughter started playing hoops this year. She has no footspeed whatsoever. It's safe to say she won't ever suit up for the Leopards---but she loves the game and I am REALLY hoping she's takin notes when Emily Garner plays. YES..it's my weekly praise of Garner. I never feel like she gets her just due. She never takes a bad shot. She called two very alert possesion-savign time outs, took a nasty charge...she ALWAYS does the little things.

Wright didn't have a great night shooting the ball but she had 9 bounds and 6 assists. At least 3 of the assists had "wow" factors. She is the best all around freshman I've seen for Lafayette.

Jackson spelled Spicer for a few minutes tonight and I hope that's a sign of things to come. I've been worried that Spicer's getting too many minutes. I don't like it when anybody gets over 30 minutes unless they're in "the zone" like Zavocki was. Jackson gave a solid effort in her 12 minutes---I love it when any frosh gets quality minutes--and all three of ours are getting them.

Our defense was especially stalwart. I'd feel better if we had more depth in the paint. Purr was dressed nicely, but I'd rather see her in maroon. She seemed to be favoring her leg when she walked. Amanda Smith did her usual thang where she came in and shot from long range with a beautiful soft touch that defies her size. Problem is, she's not doing much else.

Up next for our 7-6 Leopards is Lasalle on Friday in what looks like a good matchup on paper. Remember...$20 gets you four tickets, four dogs and four sodas..."The Excitement is Back!"

Great post, Maroon. Dan Mowdy may grab another quote.....

Blame Finnen. He's the guy who announced, "would The Maroon please report to the merchandise tent" at one of the earlier games.  When you just sat there, he announced, "would (name deleted) please report to the merchandise tent". When you got up and walked over to the tent, everybody was pointing at you.

I'll survive. It's only fair since I know who most of the posters are at least by name!

Don't do it.  Stay dirty.  We love you the way you are.  The real you will probably be a disappointment.
