Let's Not Overlook the Good Stuff

'Pards picked up their first W today - 6'5 Canadian Angela Ribrich (hey - we raided Toronto before with nice results) managed 15 points and 6 boards in only 18 minutes - she picked up 4 personals.

O'Hare played the whole game and led the team with 22 while the Brit and Hood also got in double figures.

It bothers me that O'Hare is playing this much - it reminds me of a few years ago when if they took Jess Spicer out of the game the whole damn thing fell apart. I'm assuming coach Grentz has that detail covered next year. But God forbid she gets in foul trouble.

I drank so much of the coach's Kool Aid that I watched "The Mighty Macs" online. The women fought back- it was a very good game - our game not the ones in the film. I think the coach will bring the team around but there will be growing pains.League play starts in a month so the clock is ticking If all the players buy in like Jamie O"Hare it will be an interesting season. .Ribarich shows a lot of promise.Hood  can play.Maybe there is hope.Until today it didn't look like there was.

The win over the Peahens (or whatever they are called) was a good one.  The team played tough in the clutch and came out with a win.  Next up is a beatable  St Francis Terriers squad.

Another fine win over the hapless Terrriettes from Brooklyn.  Looked like a total team effort and clearly was a wire to wire win.

Next up is a very beatable Wagner team but a road game.  So it will be a good test to see if the team is really making progress.  Then a game in Easton with 'Gate to start the PL Season, and they are definitely beatable.

Speaking of 'Gate, they play UConn at home later in Dec. - it will be a colossal blowout.  I'm surprised that Geno is playing in the Icebox in Hamilton - maybe he is only playing his freshmen.

Geno is playing in Hamilton as a homecoming for Syracuse native, Breanna Stewart, the nation's best female player.  He attempted to get a game with Syracuse, but they were afraid to play.  Then he turned to Colgate, since he knows Nicci Hays-Fort well since she used to be the assistant to one of his closest friends, DePaul's Doug Bruno.

Geno only has three freshmen - so playing 3 vs 5 might equalize things.   However if he only played his freshmen and sophs, UConn would likely win by 40.  As things stand now, they can win by 75+ if they choose - but he will go easy on Nicci. Probably a margin in the 50's.

UConn played Holy Cross for years, since he is also friends with Bill Gibbons.  Normally he took his foot off the gas and kept the margin in the 50's, but there was one game where HC played really poorly and UConn made a high pct of their shots and won by 80 points.   Could have easily been more.

BTW, Colgate is using the occasion to make some money. Charging $25 per ticket - and apparently the game is sold out.  Probably mostly UConn fans.

Thanks so much for the update Bison.  As a CT Resident, I'm hoping Geno plays only the Freshmen so we can see how good they are.

Playing 3 vs 5 might be a problem.     Smile

Also the rules don't allow it.

However it doesn't take a game with Colgate to know that Katie Lou Samuelson and Napheesa Collier are very good.

As always Bison, thanks for enlightening me on the rules!

Gate women playing Genos' gals is a joke.  One of the biggest mismatches of all time.
