Losses acknowledged by Weis to be over 200 mioAt a meeting of administrators last week Weis said the loss is now over 200 mio and it was implied the actual losses may go over that number, since evaluations are not complete. He is asking 5 pct cuts in next year's budget. ( Keep in mind that the athletic dept has lagged the rest of the school in increases over the years). My question is will fundraising by the Friends groups be diverted to cover general expenses by cutting the real budget in the athletic department? (Excuse me for being a cynic)
Fundraising by some sports now accounts for nearly 30 and as much as 50 pct of expenditures. I have also heard there is a target of 650 students for next year's freshman class with "full pays" a target population. I can't argue with that. We will still try to hire 35 faculty and the Dean of Diversity will still be hired.(200 thousand plus expenses) Can we finally dump the guy who has put us here, given we have paid him 5 mio dollars in fees over the past 10 years to keep us out of a mess like this!!!
In a related announcement the college has reneged on a pledge to restore the Bauchman Publik House for at least a year!!
