MBB roster

I noticed that the sophomore from Arkansas (#22) is no longer on the roster.  He never took the floor for the Pards.  This may be an indication that he never will.

Is he leaving school?  If not, is he on scholarship the next 2 years?  We're competing with 10 scholarship players. We will lose 2 seniors. We have 2 recruits committed. So, competing with 10 again next year? Is it fair to question roster management?  What is going on?

If his knee injury hasn't responded to treatment Fran could've pulled his scholarship.

He's no longer on the team. Don't now if he's leaving the school at end of semester.

A scholarship cannot be pulled mid year due to injury or performance.

If he has an injury that is serious enough to prevent him from being able to play again, I would think LC would still honor the scholarship for four years. It would not count against the 13-scholarship limit in that case.
adcs2

I have heard rumblings of two things about this situation (1) the injury was concealed from the coaching staff prior to arrival on College Hill and (2) a question as to whether maximum effort was being given to getting on the court and contribute.
Kpard

If that's true, wow. We seem to not have adjusted to the scholarship era. Too many transfers out, and now this type of activity. In some ways it was more fun with over acheiving non schollies.

Well, apparently Dunkum is going to Creighton according to his twitter

This is not good. I hope the consultant is paying attention. Is he losing a season in the transfer or what??
adcs2

The assumption would be that he would be eligible to play beginning next January.  That being said, I saw Creighton in person this season and either Dunkum is real good or he is kidding himself into believing he can play there.
Kpard

I think he'll have to sit until Jan. 2018. More importantly do we get that scholarship back?
I do not understand. We've got kids transferring out of this program every year! Are we not vetting them properly?
Kpard

Also, he has all of his eligibility remaining since he never saw the floor at KSC.

Fran will have 2 scholarships to give this spring after this transfer...It's very troubling this is happening! Fran will be 69 in august he has to be thinking retirement soon, I don't know when his contract ends? Hopefully he retires more gracefully than Frank did....Fran has been a great coach under difficult circumstances.

I am sure he is going there as a walk-on.

Without a special NCAA waiver, he will be allowed to play 2.5 years.   Eligibility normally runs out after 5 years, and he will have burned 1.5 years at LC and then another year sitting out at Creighton.    I doubt he will try to get a waiver for a 6th year.

He will be eligible to play the day finals end at Creighton in December of 2017.

He will be on the roster. This is weird overall.

Let's hope we beat Moravian. They're fast and can shoot 3s.

Swarthmore was 20 years ago this month.

Barlow, Hoffman and Dunkum have transferred recently. Wasted years and dollars for Lafayette.

I see this article confirms what I had assumed in my earlier post, i.e. that he will be a walk-on at Creighton.

Interesting that the article implies he has been healthy for a while.

"He's grown a bit and added some strength as he recovered from knee surgery last year. He said he's measuring in at 7-foot, 230 pounds. And he's healthy now, too.   "I feel better than I ever have," Dunkum said.

One interesting item is that Dunkum is expected to add size to their practices in the absence of injured Zach Hanson.    Hanson is Mike Muscala's first cousin and was a Bucknell recruit at one point.
Franks Tanks

This kid will never play at Creighton.  He probably wouldn't ever play at Lafayette.

Fran can still coach, but he has completely lost the ability to recruit.  Given his age and the terrible roster he has assembled, does anyone think he can turn this program around into a consistent winner at this point?  He is a great guy, but it is also time to "retire" just last Frank.

Fran has done amazing things and for the most part I've always been amazed at what he's done with what he has...

But I would be kind of exciting to open up recruiting brood skinny white prep-school kids.

And no,  i dont think Fran is racist.
bethlehempard

Lafayette MBB hasn't been a consistent winner or had consecutive winning seasons in the 21st century.
It's time to drop the myths.
Lafayette is the doormat of a weak league and there is no hope for a turnaround with this roster.
Kpard

Best of luck to the young man. Sorry it didn't work out for everyone.
Still not sure why we can't retain players. It may be time.
Andy

He's pretty excited, though. Just the chance to work every day with high-level teammates and develop his game at a big-time program was an alluring factor.

"As soon as I started hearing from Creighton, I just knew it was the place I wanted to be," Dunkum said.////

Good riddance.  I'm more concerned about the evaluation process: talent and fit.

So the kid gets a full ride, never steps on the court....even that much in practice...gets knee fixed on our dime and leaves....great!!!

He will be on a scholarship by summer, according to comments here.

Also, "Instead of testing his progress against Patriot League players, he'll get the chance to battle with a group of guys who appear ready to contend in the Big East."

Wasn't this a guy who didn't draw a ton of interest out of high school?
So he parked himself in Easton for three free semesters. $100,000 and 1 1/2 years later, he's gone.

This brings out my inner Rothkopf.

If the kid scammed us, good for him and shame on us for letting this happen.

Our two high profile men's programs appear to be a mess. Jeez!

Lafayette: Sagarin No. 324 of 351. The closest league team is Colgate at 309. Dartmouth is 328.

Someone pointed out to me today that Orender is off the MBB roster as well.  I realize he was a walk-on, but still.

He's transferring to a school in California.
