Men's soccer

Crazy and getting crazier.  Guys have not scored a goal in their last 9 games.

9 games, no goals.  When will Pards break out?
NewXbo

There's always the next game, and the next game, and the next game.
NewXbo

The streak is now 10 consecutive scoreless games.

It's unnerving. I watched the game today (as well as one can watch a soccer game online with one camera at midfield) and Lafayette opened splendidly with some good runs and looked primed to break through.  We had one chance that seemed like a sure thing (again the angle was limited but it looked like a 1/1 with the goalie) that sailed a little. The intensity deflated quickly after Q's first counterattack goal. We maintained possession for the majority of the game but we couldn't get anything substantial going at them after that.

Defensively we just plain broke down a couple of times - very uncharacteristic.

This program has really hit an ugly patch. I would love to know that the heck happened.

The rest of the league went scholarship?

Isn't men's soccer fully funded?
RichH

Fully funded is not synonymous.with schollies.  Likely a mix of need and partials. LU FH is fully funded but with few schollies. Not too competitive with teams with more merit aid.

Yes with scholarships

LC began awarding 2 scholarships per year in 2007. I was suggesting that perhaps the going is a bit tougher now that more teams have joined us as scholarship programs. Looking at the record most of Bohn's success came before LC went schollie, so my theory seems faulty.  Back to searching for a reason the team has gone 10 games w/out a goal.

We definitely belong on the field with the teams they are playing - they showed quite well against Qunnipiac,. We're actually, unbelievably outshooting our opponents through the four games and we're virtually even on corners.  but something is missing...Obviously coach Bohn is no doubt spending sleepless nights trying to figure it out.

Part of it is the nature of the sport.  I love soccer - but it can be brutal. Let's just say I understood Hope Solo's frustration after the Sweden game, the better team doesn't always win. (Not saying we're necessarily better than any one of the teams we're losing to - but we certainly aren't as bad as our scoring drought suggests).

Our stats do suggest a drop off in the second half but it's hard for me to believe our conditioning is poorer than the opposition - maybe it is. Tactically the only thing my small-time mind didn't like were a lot of balls played in to the box to nobody in particular or when we had no numbers. I get that good things happen inside the 18 but the ones we are putting in are relatively easy clears for the defense or easy grabs for the keeper.

We aren't that bad - we might even turn out to be good. I'm not sour on the team yet. But obviously something needs fixing.

1 year exactly    5 goals    19 games     (2 goals in one of those games)
                        3-12-4
ed65

The inability to score is mystifying.  It is the coach's job to figure it out so some large part of this drought is on him.  The teams under Bohn have always been good defensively.

Just wondering what would happen in the last 19 games if every opponent GAVE us one goal before play even began. What would our record look like since Sept. 5, 2015?  (For example, a 1-0 loss becomes a tie and a 0-0 tie becomes a win.)

7-5-7      not      3-12-4

Point:  We don't need gobs of offense.  Just a little would have a big impact.

The men's soccer team has scored 2 goals tonight. Hooray.
NewXbo

They won 3-1 against Fordham
ed65

Solid 3-1 victory with Vare scoring twice.  The drought has ended.  What does it say about Fordham??!!!
Andy

Nice!  The breakout game we've been looking for. Off the schneid! Keep it rolling.
seenalot

Didn't see this game.  Did see Fairfield and while we play decent D there is zero linkage between the three areas of the field.  We play chip and run and that's not going to work on a consistent basis.  Not sure where Dennis had Vare playing (up top or mid field) but we need some presence and ball control in the middle of the field.

If anyone was at the game perhaps they could comment on the above in terms of what changed.  Happy with outcome as you cant win games the way we were playing.
