Navy

*Possible* live streaming video link to today's game at Noon in Annapolis:

Don't blame me if it doesn't work.

In any event, the laxpower.con Live Action Game Reoprt (LAGR) will be here:

Go Pards.  You can do it.

I can confirm that the live stream is WORKING.

4-0 Navy with 7 mins left in the 1st Qtr.  Another poor start.

8-0 beginning of the 2nd.   Navy has scored on all but one of their shots. Pards look like a DIII team down there.  Bucknell and Lehigh both beat Navy this year.

9-4 halftime.   Evil or Very Mad

We have to win this game if we want any shot at the playoffs; only HC is precievably worse than Navy record-wise.

I think it's way too early for that conclusion.   The right 3-3 will surely make the playoffs.    Win two out of three vs Colgate, Lehigh, and Bucknell (plus a win vs HC) and LC is likely in.    It wouldn't be a big shock if Navy ends up in the playoffs either.   They are definitely not as bad as their record might suggest.

Army annihilated Wagner 14-1. It's not going to be pretty.

Watching the Navy game from start to finish, once comes to the conclusion, once again, that possession is everything.  Just look at the numbers for FO and GB - forget about everything else that happened in that game.  It's amazing how much the team relies on once player - Cesar Munoz - to win the FO and to maintain possession.  And when the ball hits the ground, do we have the team speed and physicality to to lift the GB and clear it?  We didn't last Saturday, that's for sure.

The freshman goalie, Andrusko, was pulled in the 3rd for Ed Stubits, who looked like he did a fine job.  Let's see who gets the start vs. Bucknell at Fisher this weekend.

Yes, the Pards were completely outplayed in virtually every department.  Navy was much more athletic and they were able to blow by the short sticks from up top at will (which has been a problem all season).  Then the second slides were coming late so Navy had a lot of lay-ups.  It is still perplexing how the defense takes so long to get oriented every game.  As noted by Bogus, Munoz lost a lot of faceoffs but many of those were where the Navy wings were too quick to the ball.  Lafayette also had no transition game and their offense seems to lack the high octane quality they had last year.  To their credit, Navy played extremely well, particularly in the first quarter.  This was pretty much a must-win game for them if they wanted to avoid going 0-3 in the PL.  Moreover, they no doubt were still smarting from the 15-8 loss to Laf last year.  Nonetheless, the Pards need to bounce back strong if they are to have a chance against a very strong Bucknell team.  Bauer saw limited action just in man-up offense and definitely was still limping.  Let's hope he continues to get healthy.  They certainly need him back.

The Pard D being slow to react and slide is an understatement.  Look at the way the Navy D reacted - a good Pard attack got their shots, but the Navy D was certain not to let them shoot cleanly.  Only Perini was able to get anything on his shots.  The rest of them either were off net or, mostly, blocked.  By contrast, the Pard D was actually letting them plant, wind up and shoot before getting a pole or a body in there.  Heck, even I could have scored if I had that kind of time to plant, look and shoot.

It's not all bad, though.  The Pard attack remains strong and talented, they have good stamina throughout 4 quarters, excellent team speed and they're making adjustments much better than they used to.  But they still look stiff, confused and tentative in the first 10 minutes of the game, and that has killed them this season.
