For starters I'm buying scuba gear. Looks like we'll be bottom feeding into the foreseeable future.
The (lack of) recruiting news really has me worried.

Let me try this again. Any news here? Anyone know what's going on? Brown have a hang nail? Fran have a fart caught sideways? Anything?

LC is reportedly scrimmaging Niagara on Saturday. No other info to report.

Lehigh and Colgate have added an additional verbal each. I believe that's 5 for the brown and two for gate.

Lehigh's verbal - believe it or not - is for the Class of 2010. We'll have to wait and see how that plays out next summer and fall.
Colgate's commitment is a 5th year prep school player who grew up in Cameroon.

By the way, I suspect the sole reason for Lehigh getting a verbal for a 2010 player is to push Carney over the edge at the thought of Brett Reed completing his 2010 class before Fran completes his 2009 class.

Carney only peers over the edge for hoops. If this were football, however...

From Cameroon to Hamilton. There's a joke in there somewhere, but with our recruiting situation, who's laughing?

Any word on any of the following "recruits?" With the possible exception of Sparks, I don't see any of these guys making any difference at all, but, God, I'd like some news - any news. Please give us a hint that someone cares and is actually off their butts and doing something.

I don't know if the following is good news or bad news - but it is evidence someone is out there working and that there are names being recruited who may be under the radar. From this weekend's Cornell blog:
1. Kodi Maduka, a 6'10" 210 lb. forward from Arlington, Texas committed to Tulsa over offers from Harvard, Dartmouth, Tulane, UT-Arlington, and Lafayette as reported by Rivals.com.
2. The Washington Post reports today that 6'8" Andre Mattison of Coolidge High School in Washington, D.C. committed to Florida Atlantic over offers from Cornell, Harvard, Lafayette and American.

My feeling is when we lose a kid to Florida Atlantic, we were never much in the running in the first place. Ditto for Tulsa.

If a kid really has an offer from Harvard and given their generous aid policies......he's not coming our way

Depends on his family's income. He might be asked to pay $15,000-20,000 or more per year to go to Harvard as opposed to a free ride at Lafayette. I agree that if a recruit's family income is below $90,000 or so that the chance of landing him is slim.

tulsa is a solid school (average sat in the lower 1200s) with a similar feel to lafayette (around 3000 undergrads with a bit of a pre-professional focus) and a solid cusa basketball program that is a lot closer to texas than is easton.
hc commit eric obeseykere was recruited by tulsa, as was 2008 colgate signee anthony hill. glenn andrews, now at tulsa, was actively recruited by bucknell. there is also a long list of guys, like 2008 lafayette recruit ben knox, who were recruited both by pl progams and tulsa but ended up elsewhere.

I'm missing something. My understanding is that anyone admitted to Harvard whose family income is less than $200,000 gets a free ride, athlete or not. Similar policies at Yale, Princeton and Brown.

No. Anyone whose family earns less than $60,000 gets a free ride at Harvard. If their income is between $60,000 and $120,000, then the family pays up to 10% of their income - as the income gets closer to $120,000. From $120,000 to $180,000, I believe the normal contribution is 10% of family income.
However, IF a family at any income level has unusually large assets, then they will have to pay more than the scale suggests.

Lets see Harvard for 18,000 for familly that makes 180,000 dollars or Lafayette for free. I'm still not sure any Patriot League school gets that recruit!!

Also remember that Harvard has Tommy Amaker. Pretty impressive to have him call or sit in your living room.

And, according to the NY Times and other sources, Amaker and Harvard have gone a little off the charts in pursuit of hoops dreams. Amaker supposedly used some highly questionable recruiting practices (subsequently "investigated" and OKd by the Ivy fathers) to land a top 25 recruiting class. Since then he has thrown some upperclassmen off the team to make room for his recruits.

Didn't mean to insult Tulsa--just feel like you either want to go to school in Oklahoma, or you want to go to school in the Northeast---but you certainly game me an education--thanks!
