One of The Maroons laws of sports is that every team lays an egg about 10% of the time. There are nights where the mojo isn't there. Hopefully you are playing a bad team on one of these off nights. The Leopards didn' t have their groove on tonight, and LaSalle was just too good.
The Explorers would have been tough to handle on a good night. They were as athletic a team as I've seen this season. Their speed gave us fits, so we tried to go faster, but we weren't gonna outrun this team. Their guard, Elderton, played fabulous ball=controlling the tempo and every time it looked like we could make a run she stuck a shot, a couple of which against superb defense. On defense they had us scouted very well. Zavocki and Spicer were covered like glue and they did a good job of cuttin off our passing lanes.
They played well. They've played a decent schedule but to me they looked a lot better than a 6-7 team.
But we never settled into a rhythm. We rushed a lof of shots, our spacing was bad and we needed more inside. Wright gave a yeomans effort, Garner and VVDV made a lot of good cuts to the basket but tonight we needed a true back-to-the basket post player who could provide some muscle in the paint and kick it out for some threes. Simply put--we needed a healthy Purr.
The Exploreres led by 14 at the half, and while we cut it to 8 a couple times you could just tell we didn't have the mojo. Most of the second half I listened to our fans yell "SHOOT IT" every time we passed half court--I felt like I was in the movie Hoosiers.
It wasn't our best night, but I can't say I left the gym thinking the better team didn't win.
Farleigh Dickinson comes to town on Tuesday..."The Excitement is Back"....Hot Dogs and all...Hopefully we can get a win before we head up to frickin Worcester.

No doubt about it, Elderton was the best player on the court at 5'6". She was 5 for 7 from the floor and 5 of 6 from the line for 16 points. She also had 5 rebounds, 4 assists, a steal and only 2 TOs in 36 minutes.
Quite simply, LaSalle out quicked us. Their guards shoot off the dribble, ours set up. Our offense is not a good come from behind offense, especially when you are down 16 points. Too many times we were passing the ball around outside the arc when the 10, 9, 8, 7 ... count started.
I'm getting worried, we have now lost 4 of our last 5. We need to start playing with more urgency.

Pretty much my thoughts as well, X. Down 52-33 with 12 minutes left, we're spending 20 seconds of every possession throwing the ball around the arc with little purpose, not creating much of anything. The girls made a few pretty two-pass plays down low, but not enough. We came to see the new look Pards, but we got the same old offense with albeit some better athletes on the floor and the always dependable Garner playing her heart out. Maroon, dead on as usual, we could've used Purr indeed, would've liked to see her battle #31. Not to mention, LaSalle was just better. Still the kids hustled their way back to an 8 point deficit. Better days ahead I'm sure.

We opened the game so poorly I think Tammy was trying to get them to calm down and just focus on running the offense. At the beginning we were shooting it pretty quickly and they were contesting our shots well and coming down the floor and nailing their shots.
So I think the idea was we could run the offense, make them play defense and maybe start making mistakes and we could start getting back into this. One thing LaSalle was NOT going to do was just let Spicer or Zavocki just walk down the court and put up an easy 3. Since we didn't have a post game going, we were easy for them to defend with their speed.
I really didn't mind the pace of the offense until about 3 mins to go.
X made me realize I wasn't seeing the forest for the trees. We are in the midst of a bad streak. FDU is NOT a good team. Definite need for a win on Tuesday.

When Things Go Good & When Things Go Bad
I enjoy reading the posts and now that the girls have lost 4 out of 5 games - three of these lost's were by a total of 10 points on the road against teams that have had full scholarships for a lot longer than Tammy. And now the girls have to play with more urgency? Please.
When the team was on a winning streak, they were one post about the games. Now they lay an egg against a good LaSalle team and here comes the posts. Where were you before? Always dwelling on the bad. Get a life. This is Tammy's second year with scholarships - you think you can do better - please apply. Enjoy the games, give the team credit and stop dwelling on the negatives.

Thats good Jeffrey, get your anger and frustration out. You must be a lawyer since you use the old axiom, if you can't dispute the facts attack the messenger.
We do need to play with more urgency for the very reason you cite, we do not have as many scholarship players on our roster as other schools do. Do you think Coach Smith was happy with the first half effort against LaSalle? She knows how hard it is to win games, it takes maximum effort every time out.
By the way, if your such a supporter of the program, how come you've been registered for 10 months and only posted twice, both times attacking someone?

A Supporter Of The Program - Yes I Am
Yes Xboreturns I am a supporter, but I don't believe writing to this website makes me any less of a supporter than you. Is that a requirement to complain when the girls have a bad game or complaining about the coach. And this is my second post as you so correctly checked up on. My first was when another person on here posted on the heading that Tammy was stepping down and than when you read the article, he was only kidding and said it was wishful thinking. I had to comment on that stupid post. Enough was enough.
So you keep supporting the girls here by your complaining and negative posts - I will support them by cheering them on in person win or lose.
Happy New Year

Somebody help me with the math:
Since it's usually just me and my two kids that go to the games, is it worth it for me to buy the fourth ticket so I can get the hot dog/soda package? I'm thinking it is. I mean, God knows I'm gonna eat the extra hot dog.

All right, guys, you are fairly knowledgeable here. We are 6-7 with one OOC to go. This group has shown more promise than any of the women's teams this century. What do you think the final record will be for the 14 game League season? Anyone thinking 9-5? Top 4? Better?
The Maroon
Gotta start with the right numbers: We're 7-7.
OK...we're gonna take down FDU on Tuesday and go 8-6 in the league. That puts us at 16-13 going into the tourney. In league games I'm shooting for 6-1 at home and 2-5 on the road. I've actually thought this through pretty well but I can't get into details right now because 1) I have to run through different scenarios to get the most out of the hot dog promotion (I forgot they usuaully don't charge my younger kid) and 2) The Ambien is kicking in.
As JefferyS suggests---these recent losses haven't exactly been season killers. I had us winning 17 two weeks ago, now I'm at 16. It's only Lamar that screwed up my earlier prediction. I'm just irate about the Lamar loss. DOESN'T EVERYBODY JUST HATE LAMAR!!? Wikipedia is claiming Janis Joplin went to Lamar but I don't think that's right.
Sixteen wins, another solid round of recruits, Spicer, Zavocki and Garner lead us to 20 next season---by which time I plan to have consumed 100 hot dogs.
I think we're in afor a great couple of months from both programs. Let's hope the crowds start to swell!

My opinion, fwiw. It's nice to see the Pard improvement but I still think a first division finish is unlikely. My guess would be a battle for 5th place with LU and maybe Navy. One issue is that the LC schedule ranks #333 in the RPI and #322 in Sagarin. The top three in the PL will be a significant step up. American, who was picked for fourth, seems to be having some consistency issues as they integrate three freshmen into their top seven but they do have talent.
BTW, imo Bucknell's biggest issue will be the coaching.
pardon me
the rest of the season
Well this is a tough call. I havent seen much of the games this season so I havent posted much. But what I have seen has been improvement over the last 4 years and that is something to build on. We are at .500 right now and thats great but the real season starts at Holycross and i still have some questions. Can VVD continue to play the amount of minutes that she is playing at the level that she is playing? Will Purr be able to return and contribute because it looks like Tammy doesnt think Amanda and Brooke can? Will Spicer hold up the rest of the season? Its also the time That the academically ineligable rears its ugly head. I dont want to be a downer but there is a lot of basketball lelt this season and just too many questions to be answered to make a prediction right now. Try again in 2 weeks.

They are managing to rest Vanessa better than they are Jessica. I think the continued development of Jackson at the guard is key. Spicer moves at a serious clip---which is obviously an assett but we need to keep her legs fresh.
Purr is obviously the one I'd most like to see in the middle even though she's almost always battling a bigger player. She has good post moves, the most experience, etc...I won't claim to know the first thing about what her status is. I'm a fan, not an insider. I don't see a cast, but she didn't seem to be walking that comfortably either. I feel a lot better about things if she's giving us quality minutes.
Still this team has a certain swagger about it that we have lacked in the past. They expect to win. I liked Garner's quote in the ET after the Lasalle game...They just ran out of time. Tammy also mentioned she doesn't think her team will EVER get complacent given what they've been through in the past.
