Pat Flannery's Status

As of Thursday the 31st (one day ofter he was hospitalized), Bucknell men's basketball coach Pat Flannery was still hospitalized in "satisfactory condition," "undergoing further tests."  Apparently, the family has requested that details not be released to the public at this time.  There is no indication as to when he will resume his regular duties.

Just from an outsiders view, perhaps it is time for a carrier change.....for his own health. Sad.

Heard from a couple of people at the game yesterday that Flannery may be shut down for the season.  For his long term health this may be the best course of action.  Plus I'm sure their assistans are capable of taking over the team for the rest of theyar.  Send him to the mountains until the middle of March so he can't be involved with Bucknell basketball.  Never liked his antics but he is a very good coach.

Anyone who said that was engaging in speculation with no facts, since it hasn't been determined yet - at least as far as anyone at Bucknell knows.

BTW, a bit of trivia.    One of the teams that recruited Flannery hard out of H.S. other than Bucknell was Lafayette.    He was a very good PG.

Yes it is pure speculation which is why i used the word "may" and "will be".  Considering he has a history of this during basketball season, may not be a bad idea to take the rest of the season off.

Career change?

The word is that he looked to get out of coaching this summer and applied for the AD job at Lebanon Valley. They didn't think he was serious.

Not exactly.   He talked briefly to them over the phone about the job but then withdrew his name from consideration within a short amount of time, after deciding he still wanted to coach.

Also from press release today:

"Bucknell head men's basketball coach Pat Flannery has been given full clearance to return to his coaching duties and will be on the bench when the Bison travel to Navy on Saturday for a 7 p.m. contest."

LVC

That wasn't exactly how some folks at Lebanon Valley characterized it.

then they may have mischaracterized it.

They may have. Or perhaps it was mischaracterized to others or even to yourself. This has been known to happen at least once or twice in the college coaching community. Most coaches are reticent to talk about other jobs even if they are interested, and the coaches who often talk about them will deny their interest so as not to upset their current situation. I understand it.

I hope the guy stays healthy and keeps coaching. I was just passing along what I was told was more than passing interest at a career change. -- Told that by people with nothing to gain either way.

These message boards are about speculation...otherwise people would post their own names.
