Penn

This should be a very challenging "show me" game at Franklin tomorrow. Penn defeated Duke earlier this season.

No chance in hell of beating Penn.  No chance even of approaching hell or finding the field, for that matter.  Not with this team, anyhow.

Double digit loss, as far as I can see.

I haven't seen Penn play but on paper they appear to have a very stout defense and play a very disciplined offense, which will make it tough for the Pards to generate their own offense.  Faceoffs will be huge but our boys need to come off the bus ready to play.  They have been pretty flat in the first half during all games so far.  Let's hope Bauer will be back.  I see a somewhat low scoring game, maybe Penn 9-4 but certainly would like a different result.

Penn up 5-1 after the first.  Looks like Bogus could be right on the money.

5-2 at the half.

I wish it were not true.  So we get 1/2 of a good season in nearly 100 years of Lafayette lacrosse, and now things go back to normal.  Shame, for what could have been.

Penn 6 Lafayette 5 in the 3rd.  Did I speak too soon?

Tied at 6 with 6:00+ left in 4th!

Final: Penn 7-6.  Galione 5 assists.

Considering that Penn is undefeated, ranked #14, and thrashed Duke last week, I suppose this is not so bad.

This team really *must* open quicker, though.  I'm looking forward to the stats.

Notables from the Penn game:

Penn outshot us 45-23.  Our freshman goalie had 15 saves, which can be a good thing or a bad thing, especially when the Penn goalie only had to make 4 saves to secure the win for Penn.  It does say that we have a very porous defense and we're letting them shoot.  "Whatever you do, just don't let them shoot," as coaches are fond of saying.

For the third straight game, Stefan Bauer had no stats.  I know I did not see him on the field at the Binghamton game.  I assume he is injured.  Anybody know when/if Bauer will return?

Munoz was 7-15 at FO and led all players with 7 GB.

Longstick Jon Marcek also did not play.  Any news?

One more thing - 15,000 people watched Virginia at Syracuse yesterday.  Just sayin'.

Bauer had a bad ankle sprain in the Fairfield game.  His return is still questionable.  Marcek sustained a concussion in the Binghamton game so I'm sure they are being very cautious about when he returns.  Questionable for Navy I would guess.

Mike Gallione comes from a real up and coming lacrosse program at Ridgefield CT High School.  He was a good recruit for the Leopards and should have a great career.

PardsLax, in light of the team's performance vs. Penn (discounting the slow start) do you think the D can hold up against Navy's physical attack?
PardsLax

I haven't seen either team play this year so I can't really make an informed opinion about that.  But my uniformed opinion is that the D really needs to worry about the freshman Sam Jones who has 11 goals in 4 games and is shooting 52% (81% SOG).  My guess is that he is getting a lot of shots off at point blank range which will make it tough on Andrusko.  Apparently the kid is an incredible athlete but is not a huge guy (5'9", 165lbs).  I'm also concerned that the lesson learned by Navy in the PL semis was to come at the Pards hard physically.  That seemed to be the strategy in the second half of that game and resulted in a huge turn-around at the half (and two concussions).  Perini and Colin Serling had big games in the first game against Navy and will need to again.  But the offense will have to be unpredictable and not just look for Perini.  Galione could be a secret weapon here but they will need production from their other middies (Hansen, Heff, Floyd). Navy's goalie is outstanding so Lafayette could have a tough time putting up points.  The Pards could have an advantage at the face-off X as Navy is only winning about 1/3 of these so far.  It will be key to limit fast breaks off turnovers especially early in the game when the D seems to take a quarter or two to get in sync.   All in all, I think this will be a very close, very physical game that could go either way.  Navy's game against Bucknell today could be telling but right now, I'll pick the Pards 8-7 in OT.
