Penn

With a short turnaround and a crew depleted by injuries and the spreading flu bug, we are facing a tough challenge against a thin but formidable PENN squad on the road. Wish we had more depth...
seenalot

Depth, goals, defense....something.  A second half melt down so far.
The Maroon

My understanding is the flu bug took some casualties on this team - hence us looking a few steps slow against Army.
The Maroon

The problem with this sport - or specifically in trying to build up program - is there are no shitty teams. Unlike the rest of the department which has a respectable OOC record (volleyball was 13-3 OOC) there are barely any teams we can rack up feel-good wins against.

Penn's good...Army's good...Pretty much everybody on this damn schedule is just plain good.
pards4ever

I don't want to hear we are a young team... Penn started 5 freshmen today...time for changes!! I'm tired of losing !!!
pards4ever

#16 shoots way too much...poor shot selection..#12 should not be starting at attack...where was andrews today?
LeopardPride2013

Too many contributing players missing today. At least two starting middies and one defenseman and one attack. Team will be improved when they return. No need to panic. Team played ok in first half but ran out of steam without depth in Q3. Penn goalie saved 80%. Shot selection needs to be better and careless mistakes reduced. Faceoff was better today but should get #27 some reps - he finished strong last year. Offense giving playing time to #12, #16 and other freshman is fine as they are good but will be more balanced when missing players return. Defense played ok, missed #44, it's a mistake not to have #26 play the wing given FO inconsistency - getting possession is key to winning. #40 needs to be more involved in clears - playing well. Goalie is playing well.

Well let's add another excuse to the long list: diarrhea. Seriously. I never thought I'd hear that one. It's creative!
Other teams in other sports at other schools manage to find ways to replace graduates, to fill in for injured players and to deal with the unexpected.
Only at Lafayette is every twist of fate fatal.
There's always something.

Reminds me of George Brett having to sit out a World Series game due to hemmorrhoids:

I guess you didn't get the memo.
bethlehempard

I've gotten all the memos for all sports for about 25 years.

Injuries.
Young team.
Bad calls.
Sickness.
Opponents with unfair advantages.
Opponents who cheat.
Recruiting budget.
Smaller school.
Poorly paid assistants.
Weiss.
Rotberg.
Rothkopf.
Admissions office.
Limited social life.
Draconian rules.

There's always a memo. There's always an excuse.
This one just happens to be more creative.

Other teams at other schools actually prepare for good players to depart by recruiting and coaching new good players. They prepare for injuries and illness with depth.

At Lafayette, forget it. We are delicate and a misstep throws off everything.

Bethlehempard -guess you were right it was only a little diarrhea - could not have had much of an effect - what excuse is next? Well how about they shut down the whole school and cancelled Saturday's game. Take your negativity and go. There are still 9 games left to build on the improvement we saw at the end of last year.

I hope you're right. I really do.
We will see.

As far as going, I will go wherever the hell I want with or without your blessing.

The team is 1-4 and tied for last at 0-2 in the league.
Maybe you didn't get that memo.
When it wins some games there will be positivity.

In the meantime the "annus horribilis" continues and what glimmer there was at the end of last year means nothing.
pards4ever

The team from last year had a midfield... We don't have one this year

Lafayette has cancelled all sporting events and other activities due to an outbreak of norovirus.  For anyone who hasn't had it you feel like death warmed over.  A bit more than the common flu symptoms.
