I'm still amazed when I look at the article that Colgate doesn't have a baseball program. It isn't the weather because they have softball for the women. As for American (also no baseball), who knows what they're doing.

Colgate hasn't had baseball since 1995. I think baseball was a Title IX casualty sort of like wrestling was for us. American has not had it for a while. It's one of those sports (along with football) that requires a lot of males on campus. If your school's focus is not on athletics, it's not a sport you pick up either.

Baseball opens their season this weekend at VMI with single games Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Home opener on Wednesday March 5. We lost some key players but I expect we will still make the playoffs which are expanded to 4 teams this year.
Looking forward to those balmy days at Metzgar.

A few notes from the successful opening series:
Looks like our replacement in center for Conrad (big shoes to fill) will be the freshman switch-hitter Froio, who had two multi-hit games over the weekend and team best four ribbys. Quite a start!
Interesting that Luick and Bierce have gone from hitting fifth/sixth and ninth respectively, to leadoff and second. Luick 6 for 14 already--hell of a player.
We're not smurfs. Opening day lineup saw six guys over 6' and six over 190lbs. I'm looking forward to watching a healthy Joe Ezekiel in the clenup spot this season.
Weekend starters--we know what we've got in Reese and Atkins. I haven't seen Hanna. Hoping Fritz can follow Atkins lead in terms of freshman success. Staff only walked 4 in 26 innings pitched!
X, looks like spring game will keep me from always intense series at Army. Maybe we'll get back for Sunday's late game. Will you go?

Joe's built himself a very solid program. I'll definitely miss the excitement Conrad brought to the game but the freshman is off to a good start. Luick is just fantastic around the bag and his ability to go the opposite way is unusual for a lefty hitter. Ezekiel can certainly crush it when he gets his pitch.
As usual, it will come down to who has the best pitching with the 4 games in 2 days format. I think we are in pretty good shape starter wise. I'm anxious to see how the relievers develope.
Although 4 teams make the tournament this year, with each series being the best of three, you stil want that top seed to host both rounds.
There's too much stuff scheduled on the 26th, spring game, mens basketball banquet, and baseball double-header, to name a few. Maybe a Sunday trip to Highland Falls. Is the Park Restaurant open on Sundays?
