PL Lacrosse

Bucknell took Lax power Virginia into overtime in the first round of the playoffs and lost by one goal.  Bucknell lead the whole game, but Virginia made a furious comeback in the 4th quarter-- they tied the game and won in overtime.  The game was televised nationally on ESPNU.  Bucknell and Colgate will finish the year in the top 15.  Last year Army beat #1 seed Syracuse.

We continue to languish in the doldroms.  Will it ever change?  Probably not.
Lafalum

Bucknell has a very young team and with a little more depth they will be quite  formidable. Bucknell held the lead the whole game and the announcers ( ACC announcers) were disdainful of the PL. NIce game by Bucknell and they could have won the game. As usual we continue to have our thumb located you know where while Bucknell does very well in many sports.

I agree that the announcers were terrible.  Many Lax experts thought Bucknell would win this game, so the way they talked down toward the Bison was a bit surpising.

Bucknell should have won.  Dubious strategy at the end doomed them.  Don't forget Gate beat Maryland in the last game of the year.

It looked like a winnable game for the Bison.  I'd be interested to hear what Bucknell could have done from a strategic standpoint to blunt the furious comeback by UVA in the 4th Quarter.  Cav's overtime goal was by a Sophomore - impressive.

IN the overtime with 1;30 left the Bison midfielder was starting the play from midfield and got leveled by the Caveliars defender, they lost the ball and Virginia scores. 2 1/2 regular time to go Bucknell misses an open goal. Both situations sort of imply to me lack of concentration due to very little substitutions. Bring in a good class I think Bucknell could find themselves in the finals in the near future.

I watched the game with some Bucknell alumni buddies. It was fun rooting for our PL brethren but ....well... you know how I feel. We seem to be just incapable of excecuting a plan. We seem to think grass planting is more important and fools errands like competing "to be nationally" recognized in the performing arts. Wouldn't it be refreshing to hear we'd like to "nationally recognized " in some sport.... any sport ( well you can skip fencing). I guess we feel we have a better chance with our film major to compete with USC and UCLA......sigh!!!

Bucknell:

We have more financial resources.

We have a smaller budget.

We have the same athletic aid expenditures, mostly.

Why do they own us??

We have no infrastructure. And it's not like BU is a traditional lax power where recruits come to them.

Jus look at the NCAA field: these are the exact schools we want to share company.

We always want to be like an Ivy. Well, we can't even compete with Colgate and  Bucknell. And soon Lehigh.

While Bucknell is not a traditional power like a Johns Hopkins or Syracuse, there is no comparison at all between BU's lax tradition and that of LC.    BU had some good teams in the 70's, 80's, and 90's and had one of the sports' best-known coaches for 38 years.   (Sid Jamieson is still in the top 10 all-time for total wins.)  It was Bucknell's undefeated season in 1996 - when they won the PL and easily beat 4-loss Army, only to see Army get an NCAA bid while BU stayed home - that caused not only outrage across the lacrosse world but also a total revamping of the NCAA selection process.

More to the point - since recruits have no interest in ancient history - since 2000, Bucknell is 55-18 in the PL and has either won or tied for the regular season title seven times, while LC is 15-58.   That may not make BU a traditional power, but it sure makes them pretty good for a second-tier lacrosse program.     The likelihood of challenging for a title and an NCAA bid every year has to make recruiting at Bucknell a lot easier.

You may not know this 137 but our Athletic Director is working on a plan that will make the Leopards dominate in every sport. You can expect an announcement any day now.

It's just like when they say "Roll Tide"....except tides actually "roll" in...While Leopards also.... well...roll...right?

I say why stop there?

"WOOO PIG SOOOIE 'PARDS!"

"Hook ' Em 'Pards!!!"

How about

"Win something, sometime, Pards!"

Maroon, this a big part of the Athletic Director's master plan - a new motto.
Marooner

I'm not a fan of it but students seem to love Roll Pards.

Everybody is in favor of anything that gets the students interested. Maybe we aren't the demographic for this one.
Pard4Life

Eh I like Hook 'Em Pards better... or maybe hi-jacking another College's rally motto would sound better... I like how we have to suck up to the sports-media industrial complex by taking the motto of one of the most commercialized programs out there to rally any bit of interest.

Only second class schools copy for their own... like Lehigh. Bucknell and Lehigh's fight song is exactly the same. How about we look up some old Lafayette songs or rally cries and use that? There is lots of material there and it would be unique to us... we used to have the most rowdy fans in college football and yes seriously, we did.

Or we can just use "explecitive Lehigh" every time... that works.
Pard4Life

Also, I find it ironic that a school as heavily supportive and dedicated to the North and Union as Lafayette was sucking up to the nationalistic rallying cry of Alabama no less. Call me crazy but the southern schools, especially the football powers, use their football strength as an outlet for southern "nationalism."
Lafalum

OMG we discovered the "PLAN."  Weis is always talking about transformative experiences at Lafayette. We are going to become the Alabama of the north or maybe no one in the administration knew this was an Alabama thing, after all most have not viewed a "football contest" on TV much less been to an Alabama football gathering or whatever it is called.
