PL Semifinal

Nick Lindner had better be ready. Bucknell will be doing the same thing they did to Tony Johnson. They will throw 2 or 3 guys at him and lean on him all game in an attempt to frustrate and wear him down. BU is notorious for chest and shoulder hand and forearm checking.
This group has won in Lewisburg in the past, we have senior experience and seem to be hot right now. Let's get up on em earlier and make them chase us. Hinrich's is they key.
Beat the Bison!

The Patriot League was ultra competitive this year not because everyone was good, but rather because no one was "that good."  Lafayette, with its senior class that includes three 1,000 point scorers, should have run away from this group.  They didn't.  If they've finally hit their stride they should be able to handle things from here.  Here's hoping the Metro game was a sign of things to come.
Pard4Life

The PL was pretty good... the RPI of the top teams were respectable.

Ok, so we had a good game vs. Boston, like we did vs Army on New Year's Eve... then we saw what happened.

We go from red hot to ice cold, like all season.  Bucknell by 15.   Embarassed

Bill S - I'll take that bet. This team has been maddeningly inconsistent this season for reasons within and without their control. They can win - but will they ? Only if they play to their best capabilities the entire game. They have done it before but only very inconsistently.Continuing to play on a high level after a big win is the key. I think that the law of averages will catch up and this will be a close game that will require scratching and clawing to win on the road in a very bad venue for this team.If they succeed in winning the league they will have to beat two nemeses and if they beat Bucknell in their place they will have earned it. The best things going for us are the 4 seniors starting and Fran's skill as a tourney coach. I love Bucknell's coach too - he did the impossible - he won a DIII national championship at Williams.
Steve

It is important to keep one thing in mind about today's game in comparison to Thursday's win over Boston -- Bucknell, in all likelihood, will play a lot better defensively than Boston did.  Like everyone else, I was very happy with how the team played on Thursday.  We moved well on offense and our passing was superb, which led to a lot of good looks at 3-pointers.  And we shot very accurately from the 3-point line to convert those good looks.  But the Terriers did not give a great effort on defense, as Joe Jones acknowledged after the game.  In particular, it seemed like once we hit a few shots and started to get going, they got discouraged and did not sustain their defensive effort.  We did an excellent job of exploiting their weakness defensively, but our hot 3-point shooting was due, in part, to their not defending the 3-point line well.

In contrast, Bucknell usually defends the 3-point shot well against us.  Their defense is designed to have defenders fight over ball screens, to try and prevent open jump shots.  Even when we beat them at Kirby, it really wasn't due to 3-point shooting, but to Lindner beating his defenders and Foulland conceding the mid-range jumper to Trist, who had a very accurate shooting night.  So, in all likelihood, we're not going to shoot as well from 3-point range today, and it probably won't have much to do with our effort, but rather Bucknell doing a better job of defending the 3 than Boston.

The one thing I'm most interested in regarding Bucknell's defense is how Foulland will play Trist.  Foulland is a very good rim protector, and in the games I've seen, he likes to stay near the basket on D.  However, Trist is the best shooting center in the PL, and in the game at Kirby, he made Foulland pay for conceding the mid-range jumper.  Will Foulland move farther away from the basket in today's games, to contest Trist's jump shots?  And, if he does, will that make it easier for Linder (and, hopefully, others) to score if they beat their man on a drive?

The biggest question in terms of effort on our part will be how well we defend, especially against the 3-point shot.  Bucknell has some very capable outside shooters, in Hass, Show, Azzinaro, Thomas and others.  We did a pretty good job defending Hass in the game at Kirby, but Show burned us badly in the first half.  Our perimeter defenders need to focus on denying the Bison good looks from 3 -- particularly off of that play where they run one of their shooters off of a baseline screen and out to the 3-point line.

I'm hoping for the best, but if we are able to win today, it likely will be in a closely fought game where we have to grind it out for the entire game.  I'm not expecting anything close to a romp like on Thursday.  But, as I noted above, that is because Bucknell is likely to play considerably better on defense than Boston did, and not due to a lack of effort or consistency on our part.
carney2

I like our chances, even in that he!! hole.  Here's a post by our old friend 137 on the Bucknell board:

"This is a very dangerous game. Not only is Lafayette much more experienced but they are better at three starting positions - Center (Trist), PF (Hinrichs), and PG (Lindner) - and perhaps as good at SG. Bucknell's advantages are Hass, its depth, and Lafayette's mediocre defense/rebounding. If LC has a good shooting night, it will be a very tough game."
pards123

The regular season champion (or at least one co-champion) has made the tournament final every year in the Patriot League's existence. I hope the pards can end that streak today!
Pard4Life

Our half-arsed rebounding directly leads to five BU points and now bison on a roll.
Pard4Life

Trist put a good move on 20 and we are getting good looks from 3.
Pard4Life

We can't shut down their interior penetration. Not looking great.

Seth the Invisible Man again.

Trist and Lindner carrying us so far on offense. We should feed Trist more underneath.

Tied at 27 with three minutes to go in the first half.
Franks Tanks

27-27l with about 3 minutes in the 1st half.

We are playing pretty good D, but so is Bucknell.

We will need Linder and Trist to carry us.  Joey P sitting with 3 fouls at  the moment.
pards123

Really need Seth to hit a few shots here.

There's one
Lafalum

Thanks I couldn't stand it

BU D better at this point: we can't get the ball inside very well while they keep getting two-foot looks. We are in this but we have got to solve both problems. It's the key to the game IMO, not our threes.
2012Pard

Bucknell now up 34-31 at halftime.
Pard4Life

O'Hanlon said get lose balls and get ball to Trist.
Pard4Life

And way to go BU drives right in for an and one, just like that
Pard4Life

41-33!! Joey just stood there and Trist had two guys on him trying to get a missed BU shot,  GET WITH IT GUYS!!!  THEY WANT IT MORE NOW!!
Pard4Life

BOOM! Here we go!!!

Seth with a great three and Trist gets and 1!

Great D on the other end and a big Trist block
SIDELINER

Can't get CBSSN so I'm listening to audio on Bucknell website. Guy on the mic should be strangled -- "you've got to be kidding me ... that's pathetic ..." but Leopards are now down a 43-42 and about to tie it. "Why not get a ride on the bus back to Easton, guys" he says about refs. Game now tied at 43. 15:21 left.
Pard4Life

Foul on Trist while double teamed? Joke
Pard4Life

ANOTHER JOKE FOUL ON TRIST!

Seth draws a charge but that's a make up.
pards123

Bucknell can't make anything and we aren't taking advantage
Pard4Life

We can't get a darn defensive rebound! And it's costing us points
SIDELINER

45-44 Leopards at media timeout after two Trist free throws.
SIDELINER

Hinrichs free throws make it 47-44.

pards123

What a win! Sure proved me wrong. Let's go American!
Pard4Life

Wow, anyone who didn't vote Trist POY needs a head exam.

Lindner and Trist carried the team and everyone contributed. Musters was a great sub. Joey big shots etc, great defensive effort down the stretch.
bethlehempard

AU transfers vs. Colgate transfers. What crap. Colgate has an early lead in the Transfer Title.
Franks Tanks

Nick and Dan are just tough dude's.  The whole team played their you know what off.

Who are we rooting for Colgate or American?  I understand an American win gives us a home game, but we beat Colgate during the regular season.

This will be what our 4th final in 6 years?  15 years since our last championship.  We are playing our best ball of the year.  We are due!
bethlehempard

I have really enjoyed seeing Musters get some quality minutes. Not stats but good minutes.
On that beautiful lob I was wondering why Nick picked up his dribble but what a result. Shove it to Joey who made a beautiful pass and Dan finished the play and Bucknell.
The Bison will be very good next year. Great game.
I think I would rather we faced Colgate if home court weren't an issue.
SIDELINER

BU Coach Paulson says: No question, didn't sustain defensive focus. Our offense wasn't the problem. Veteran team, dangerous, skilled, savvy ... did what they had to do ... stings.. we so close, home, didn't get our job done... having said that we were the best team in the league over the course of the season. ncaa doesn't reward that as you might like. NIT heckuva tournament. great opportunity for our guys. He says his guys overachieved for the season ...

Nothing from Fran, of course, on BU audio. But again, The FOH shows what kind of coach he is at the end. League's best.

First time a No. 1 seed did not make the final in the Patriot League postseason tournament? Is that possible?
bethlehempard

Good point that is odd in a league that has a lot of parity though Bucknelll has been near dominant for awhile.
Good exposure with teams in both tournaments this year. Just hope it's us. Great GREAT game!
BillS

Whew that was close I expected a 22 point win Laughing Awesome win and at this point if we just play our game home or away I expect a win...GoPards!
Andy

AU by 17 at the half.
bethlehempard

AU is blowing Colgate out. 38-21 at the half. The Raiders look terrible. Shutting this one off and enjoying a warm day outside.
GO PARDS!!!!
65Pard

FOH once again shows he is the best coach in the league....those calling for firing him make me laugh.
ed65

A really fine win for LC.  I was checking the scores on ESPN while on the ski lift - very exciting.  Good that AU won (I have never rooted for them before) so LC gets the Championship Game in Easton.  That's great.  Beating AU will give this team 20 wins - first time in quite a while.
SixtyEighter

This was as good a win as this program has ever had.I agree @ FOH- he is a great tourney coach . The team executed very well and kept battling until Bucknell faltered and couldn't recover. They came from behind in a very bad road venue for them..One of the big keys was only 4 turnovers in the whole game and possibly none in the second half. Our guys could never insert a dagger in Bucknell's heart but they got Bucknell down and never let them up.
Kpard

Never panicked and played the way we thought they could all year. Second half was ours. I thought we'd be in the final. I was hoping it would be at KSC. This is not how I thought we'd arrive there, but, what fun! KSC will be rockin'!
Let's finish the deal with our 20th win!

Plus Joey P is back in the zone.  The final Wednesday looks to be a barn-burner.  If we win it will be earned and well deserved.  We will represent the league well in the NCAAs.
