Play-In Game @ Loyola

Confused:  College website says 7:30 on Patriot League Network.  Newspaper says 7:00 on LSN.
bison137

Loyola starts all their regular season night games at 7:30, so I think it's safe to say that this one also is a 7:30 start.
Andy

PL website shows 7:30 on PLN.

All League teams announced; Seth 3rd team. First year for a third team being selected.   Nick makes all rookie team.

Lehigh has 2 on all rookie team inc their center who is ROY.

Is BU player on all rookie team enrolled in Met Col?  Can't say, as opposed to every other player on their roster, there is absolutely no mention of academics in his bio.   "Rated 16th best player in the state of Florida ... Chose the Terriers over Virginia Tech, Oklahoma State .."

I doubt Hankerson is in Met College.    He had a 3.95 unweighted GPA in HS and a good SAT.   Reportedly had offers from Harvard, Penn, and Brown.   Would have easily fit in under any PL team's AI.

Awesome! Great research 137.  Had ruled out Harvard for Ok State, interesting.

So we can rest assured that BU is now adhering to PL recruiting standards.

One guess would be that his parents aren't poor and they would have had to pay a good portion of the freight at Harvard or Penn.

You have to be "poor" to get significant aid at Harvard?   Not my understanding.

"Poor" was probably the wrong word - but you need an income of $65,000 and almost no investable assets to get a full ride.  As income goes up from that point there can be some real expenses.  For example, according to the Harvard website, parents with an income of $125,000 and investments of $200,000 would have to pay $22,000 per year if there was only one child in college.     So if his parents are doing well, then going to Boston U may save them a lot of money.   No idea about their income however.

Be disappointed if we didn't win this one. Going up to Beantown again on Wednesday will be a big challenge. Let's survive tonight, first, though.
carney2

Back to playing mythical defense.  Loyola is on course to score in the 80s.
carney2

Up by 7 at the half.  Living by the 3.  Ptasinski and Hinrichs in double figures.
Lafalum

Winning at the half after a slow start. We should win this one. We are the better team!!

Back up and looks like we went on a mini run. Up by 12

carney2, go to monoprice.com and get an HDMI cable.  Or if you're using older technology, get an s-video cable.  Or get one of those cheap little boxes that converts the two.  Then plug your computer into the back of your television.

Or just post here about all the little plugs on the back of your computer and the back of your television and I'll show you exactly what to get.  It'll cost very little - as long as you order from monoprice.com (and don't go to Best Buy or Radio Shack or whatever).

You're suffering and I feel your pain.
Bogus Megapardus

Well, that was decent of them, to go down there and take out Loyola and all.

I guess you can put lipstick on a PIG after all.

Metropolitan College used to draw about 250 people to their home games when they were in America East.  Now I think they draw 500-600.  Still, there won't be much enthusiasm for the home team.  At least we have that going for us.

At least they don't have a hockey game Wednesday night.
Bogus Megapardus

According to the Loyola Board, Lafayette is "the worst team in the league."  I'll leave to conjecture what that says about Loyola.

In any event, Loyola has some good players and they played tough tonight - until about the 7:00 mark.  Then they seemed like they were just going through the motions.

I guess our guys wanted the quick turnaround up to Metropolitan College more than their guys wanted the quick turnaround up to Metropolitan College.
BillS

Those Catholic kids were always arrogant:-)
Kpard

They say it is tough to beat a team 3 times. Let's hope that is true. Maybe MC will be overconfident from the beat down they gave us last time?

Will that keep the stream alive?   Shocked

When the stream crashed on me tonight I switched browsers, from Firefox to Maxthon.  It worked immediately.  My "survivalist" instinct tells be to have four different browser choices at the ready at any given time. Cool

I think it was just one of those gawd-awful Adobe Flash glitches that happen from time to time.  Soon enough Flash will be replaced with HTML-5 or some other technology and there will be remarkable improvements in streaming quality and stability.

Remember - never use Internet Explorer.  You're just inviting trouble.  It's the least reliable browser and the infectious trash that it stores on your machine has to be removed with surgery.

The crowd at Loyola was listed on the box score as 318.  That is pathetic.  What is that school doing in the PL?

It seems that Bucknell and Lafayette are the only PL schools that draw decent crowds on a regular basis.  You're right, though - I always thought that Loyola had a decent basketball culture.  Maybe it will pick up next season.  They've gone though a big change with switching conferences, losing their coach, and losing several of their recruits in the process.  I wish them the best.

Some of the turnouts at Holy Cross must be really disappointing to them.  That's a basketball school.  I know that their fans blame the PL but really, its been almost 30 years.  Holy Cross really can - and should - be drawing 2,000 regularly.  If we fade up at MC Wednesday night I'm pulling for the Crusaders to win it this year.

As for Metropolitan College's pathetic attendance, with 30,000 students they have no excuse whatsoever.  American U.?  I just don't care.  They still seem like some kind of foreigner that has nothing to do with the PL.

Mr. Announcer, who seemed pro-Lafayette most of the night said it was because it's a brutally cold night in Baltimore.  I guess they like summer basketball.

As for "What is that school doing in the PL?," ditto for Metro and American.  When/if Monmouth joins the club I am organizing a march on Center Valley with everyone carrying knives and clubs.  Hey, jacka$$es, if you can't do it right, just don't do it!

No joke - some of the Metropolitan College fans now are looking forward to a Big East invite:

http://www.basketballforum.com/pa...big-east-expansion-candidate.html

Obviously they've "outgrown" the PL.  Unless that's just Sader87 pranking them . . .  Cool

Loyola has a poor basketball culture.   Even during Patsos's good seasons, they only averaged about 1200 per game.   In 2010-11, they averaged just over 900.   These are their official attendances, as opposed to the lower numbers who actually are in the seats.

As for PL attendance, don't forget Navy.    They have been awful for over a decade, but still are 3rd in average attendance over the past 10 years - behind only Bucknell and Holy Cross.    For at least the past seven years, they have averaged over 2000 per game every year - the only PL school except Bucknell to do so.  Over those seven years, they are #2 in the PL in attendance.

I plug the IPAD via an adapter (Target $45) and HDMI cable into the big screen, expand the picture on the IPAD and it fills the TV screen. No outage last night, for me, thankfully. I love the PLN.

I considered that box with the weird name that one of the infrequent posters mentioned, forgot the name, but this is working fine.

Monoprice.com also has any adapter you possibly could need, usually about half the price or less.

Or even via amazon.  I bought a 25-foot HDMI cable for $7 online.  Saw an identical one in CVS for over $20.  I purchased some other items I needed and got free shipping too!

It was about 12 degrees out and the roads were icy since it snowed in the morning and never got above 25 degrees.  That doesn't excuse the students, most of whom could walk to Reitz Arena.

OK.  That leaves icy roads for everyone else.  A very poor showing, but somewhat understandable under the circumstances.

For the record, I live 20 minutes away and didn't give a thought to venturing out.
