Playoffs? Are you kidding me? Playoffs?

Chattanooga 31 Fordham 0 at the half.
Ideally Colgate will find a way to do a little better later today.

As always thanks to Jim Mora, coach of the Philadelphia Stars but more quotable as an NFL head coach. And no he never did win an NFL playoff game.
Chattanooga: no matter how many times I look at it, it still appears to be spelled wrong.

Now 38-0. I have no sympathy for the Rams but if UNH blows out Colgate again it's bad for the league.

Gate 12-6 at the half. Impressive.
Gate 20-6 in the third. Fordham lost 50-20.
Go Gate!!!
RichH

Edmonds hurt early. Chatty still wins but Rams would have scored more.
bethlehempard

Gate 27-20 final. A late UNH interception ended the comeback.
Gate moves on.
ed65

Good for 'Gate.  An outstanding win in the gloom of the UNH stadium.  A big win for the PL.  My Colgate Alum daughter is ecstatic.
Newleopardfan2

Huge win for the Raiders. A good friend's son starts on their OL. Hoping they make it through another round. Good news for the PL.
Pards Rule

Yes good job Colgate. This wasn't the UNH squad we faced Nov. 30, 2013 but I got the felling reading AGS posts that UNH had the attitude the PL was a mere brush off before they advanced to the next round. Probably were spoiled with their 40-0 spanking of Colgate a few years back and our 45-7 walloping.
SixtyEighter

It is great to beat a nemesis even if it's by a surrogate.
flyfisher

Colgate up 17-0 early 2nd quarter on JMU. And probably on the road. JMU did lose the QB who transferred from Ga Tech and lost 2 of their last 3 but this is huge for Colgate.

Has anyone stopped to think that we played Colgate pretty close? Are we really that far off or is their some talent here?
flyfisher

17-7 now early 2nd.
Franks Tanks

Colgate has a real coaching staff , and their players improve from year to year. Our's don't so even if talent is pretty similar, and it probably is, we can't do what they are doing until Frank leaves.

Never fear our AD will be there to congratulate Colgate on Twitter for the big win, while he presides over the garbage heap he is in charge of.
flyfisher

Colgate 31, JMU 31 middle of the 3rd. Regardless of the outcome it's nice to see Gate do well. Ill admit I never thought it.

Richmond 48-13 over William and Mary. Game only took 2 hours and 20 minutes. Bad matchup for the Tribe. Can't run on Richmond. Their lines are badass.

44-38 Gate 5:35 left in game

And yes, we do have talent here. Looking forward to having Austin McCrum at QB next year. Looks like he has the leadership qualities we need there.

There are a few things I can share as to player development. However my sons position coach has taught him a lot. When they got rid of the position he was recruited to play with the departure of Loose and arrival of Link they moved him to a position he had never played and Coach Dell got hm to where he could contribute a lot on D-line. Personally think that is pretty good coaching to change positions in summer camp and by the season opener you are playing first substitute. This is also the coach that developed Chuma, taking him from fullback to DT in a few weeks. No first hand knowledge to other coaches but it has been a good experience for my son. His coach helped him make lemonade out of Lemons.

I do wish they could use more moves, techniques and stats to get pressure however they are told to engage and initiate contact and stay n gaps. I understand gap responsibility but I don't fully understand the role of the d-line n the fall defensive scheme. One obvious thing is they are supposed to keep the o-linemen off the Lbers so the Lbers can clean up and make tackles. They must be dong something right as it lets Bryant free to roam and he capitalizes in it. He is a tremendous tackler.
SIDELINER

Ian Dell was a terrific defensive player for the last Leopards with a winning record. He had 7.5 sacks and 12 TFL in his senior season, and he and Andrew Poulson created a lot of havoc. As flyfisher says, he obviously knows how to pass along that knowledge.

Yes, Bryant had a strong season thanks to guys up front helping him. Just think what might have been if Brockman might have been able to play, too. His may have been the biggest loss of all in a season full of various losses. And, I think DE should be a real strength in '16. Turn 'em loose.

Fantastic win. Fantastic game. Congrats to Colgate, their players and coaches. This is a huge event. I think JMU was ranked #5 in FCS.

Way to go, Gate!  And a lot of fun to watch.

Interesting that the Lehigh fans on AGS and the Lafayette "fans" over there aren't denigrating the win. When the Pards beat the #5 team in the country in 2013 those guys were tripping over themselves to be the first to point out that FU had played with their back up QB.  And 2 years later they still mention it. Not today.  Imagine that..
SIDELINER

For what it's worth only: James Madison also was without its starting QB for the game against 'Gate.  But the important thing is playing with what the players who are ready, and the Raiders did a great job against a highly ranked opponent. Now they face Sam Houston State, which is coached by L.V. product K.C. Keeler, who was at Delaware when the Blue Hens slammed the 'Gate in 2003.

Yup, that was the point of my comparison.

JMU is the 8th ranked team in the country, and a 5 seed.  When LC beat FU they were ranked #5.  Just interesting to me how differently the victories are being viewed. Trust me, Gate posters wont be putting an asterisk next to the W. That's a Lafayette fan thing.   Great win for Gate, their fans should be proud of the program.

How true. Some fans just don't appreciate the wonder of a 1-10 season, or consecutive 42-0 shutouts, or a six-year streak of losing seasons. They just don't know football!

ok Zeus I really  think you don't get the fact that we're tired of losing no matter who's fault it is! We get it that Frank gets one more year but in my opinion that's it, after that it's time for a fresh start. We have the best facilities in the league and in my opinion a good coaching staff would make a big difference. Bottom line we're tired of excuses...Cheers and have a great day  Wink

Hearty congratulations to gate their players and the coaching staff.  CLEARLY they have figured out how to recruit in the scholi era.  The QB is from Sparta NJ which you would think would be LC Country.  Oh well.

Bill, you posted earlier this week about a meeting with Frank and Bruce. In this post you say Frank gets one more year. My understanding is that he has two years remaining on his last contract. So, are you saying there is a new "arrangement" giving Frank just one more year?

The last release (Jan'14) on a Tavani contract extension was worded "at least through the 2016 season."  If he's been given another year it hasn't  been made public.
The Maroon

OK - I'll admit I bring up Nebrich's absence. And I get your point - most fans don't qualify the big wins as I have in this case. It wasn't like Fordham sent out their b-team.

It was a great win.

My issue was, is, and will be - that the week going into the game we were a 3-6 and blew it one final time to Dick Biddle and his crew.

But - Tavani pulls off the win against Fordham and the next week beats Andy Coen for the first time in six tries (he was outcoached in 3 of five losses). 3-6 becomes 5-6 and the powers that be reward him with a contract extension.

It couldn't be for anything beyond those two weeks because we all know what happened at UNH.

It couldn't have been for anything prior to those two weeks.

I realize it's not as cut and dry as I'm making it sound  - after all he won a league title and ultimately that's the criteria we should judge him by - but the contract extension to combat negative recruiting (nobody's going to want to play in Easton unless Frank T is coaching?) got my goat.

Kudos for Colgate and the Patriot League, small mention for the Pards

Sam Houston State 34 - Colgate 14 with 9:30 left in the third. SHSU has the ball.
SixtyEighter

It's the end of the line for Colgate - Keener , coach of Sam Houston State has an MO of relying heavily on D1 transfers. He did the same at Delaware while HC there. It's really no contest.
SixtyEighter

Sorry - coach is named Keeler but he's the transfer guy. SHS QB a UAB transfer.
SIDELINER

Did watching that game bring back any memories? That Fargodome has to be the best home-field advantage in the FCS. Fargo is all-in with the Bison, for sure. And the Bison love 'em back. Had a fight today with UNI. Won  23-13.

Ooops, that was another game. Brain fade. Richmond and Jacksonville State also won.

Back to the 'Gate. 48-21 final.  Good run by the Raiders, but what may have been workable speed in the Patriot League was pedestrian traffic in the the other side of the FCS. Keeler is an Emmaus native. Here's a story from The Morning Call on how that UAB QB got to Sam Houston. Would never fly in the Patriot League ... except maybe at Fordham.

And their conference OPOY QB didnt even play.

Roster full of transfers per usual for Keeler.

Bigger plaudits for Lafayette football at end of NELeopard's article on Colgate - a complimentary article on the 2016 recruiting class based on our own Andy's compilation of commitments.

Glad this entertaining writer has begun to focus on the PL. In his piece on Edmunds he underscores the prior conversation on our board that Chase was recruited, apparently by several, as a CB.  Doesnt mention LC specifically, but Edmunds has IDd us publicly before. Probably told him he could play early on D as we had immediate need that year, and then go to O later.  He apparently felt slighted by that and hasn't forgotten. Our bad. Oh well...
