Rich, here's another I guess we're gonna battle over:

"The ringleader of the win was quarterback Matt McHale, who has been offered by Monmouth, is being recruited by Patriot League schools Lehigh and Lafayette and is distancing himself in the race for the best QB in Morris County.
McHale, a bruising 6-3, 205-pounder, was at Seton Hall Prep as a freshman."

Bogie wants to know-- can he hang ten?

It's official--Monmouth has now offered every warm bodied senior in the state of New Jersey!!
Bogus Megapardus

Looks like Matt McHale plays for Madison (NJ) High School.  That's the school that serves Harding Township, NJ.  The Kirby family resides in Harding Township.

Somebody should make a call, maybe.
Andy

Wide receiver Mike DeTroia is enjoying one of the best statistical seasons of any receiver in New Jersey this fall. The Barnegat (N.J.) senior continues to pile up the numbers, and as a result, the recruiting interest is also piling up.

“Recruiting is going great,” said DeTroia, who is 6-foot-4 and 200 pounds. “I’ve recently been offered by Lafayette and UMass.”

These two new offers, join previous offers from UPenn, Bucknell, New Hampshire and Monmouth.

DeTroia also mentioned that Boston College, Connecticut, East Carolina, Colgate and Youngstown State have continued to show serious interest.

Does not seem that Dec meeting has slowed down recruiting at all. Appears coaches know more than us Laughing

According to another page I saw, the "lock" means a verbal.

This kid has a lock, too, and we already know that he's committed:

ESPN rates Ohradzansky a 66 and gives him one star, but doesn't mention Lafayette.

Drew Martinez (6-foot-3, 200) has been one of the go-to receivers for Devin Fuller in Old Tappan’s unblemished season thus far. Also excelling on the defensive side of the ball as a safety during his senior season, Martinez has the bloodlines as his older brother is in his freshman year at Lafayette. Lafayette is also showing interest in the younger Martinez, as well as the rest of the Patriot League.//////

Chris M was out all year due to injury, I believe.  He and his brother could play all 4 yrs together.  Very Happy

Rivals and PFN report good verbal for Taunters:

James Coscia  E. Stroudsburg S. DE/LB  Ht:6'3"

RB/DB Tom Cabarle  6-2 185  w. morris

Rushed 137 times for 1,045 yards (7.6 per carry) and scored 13 touchdowns.

Caught 29 passes for 602 yards (20.8 per catch) and scored 11 touchdowns (a West Morris record for TD receptions).

Cabarle was Morris County's scoring leader this year with 25 touchdowns and 150 points.

Cabarle, who scored over 1900 on the SAT and earned a 3.9 GPA, is being recruited by Princeton, Penn, and Dartmouth of the Ivy League, Patriot League schools Bucknell, Lafayette and Holy Cross, and D-III Williams College. He will begin making his official visits later this month. Cabarle doesn't have a preference between playing offense or defense, although Hennelly said it will be offense.......

He wants to major in something along the lines of economics or international business. But he has always shown a penchant for coaching, even at his young age.////

He would probably be a decent PL recruit, but he is pretty skinny for a Tight End.  Lafayette likes bigger TE's who can block, and we brought in some good young TE's last year. He will probably be a good fit for Holy Cross.

For any of you who were as perplexed as I, that's Allentown, NEW JERSEY.  Allentown, PA barely has a football program, let alone any "football stars."  Allentown's William Allen High School went 1-9, with their lone win over the city's other high school, Louis Dieruff, which went 0-10.

Not finding much published info from Fla concerning LC, and I know LCLF is looking hard, too.

LC recruit:

QB Kelvin White  East Pennsboro 6-3 210

Quarterback Kelvin White of Enola (Pa.) East Pennsboro was beginning to feel the pressure of recruiting, as he continued to wait for his first offer. On Monday, much of that pressure was relieved as White found out that his first offer had finally arrived.

“Yes sir, I finally got an offer from Army,” said White, who is 6-foot-3 and 210 pounds. “I’ve been waiting for it. Before this last month I was very discouraged, however, since all the coaches have shown interest, it’s taking off. With this offer, I hope some other schools come out as well.”

Aside from Army, White has also been receiving increased interest from Connecticut, Lafayette, Lehigh, Bucknell, Maine, Massachusetts, Stony Brook and Duquesne....

With this brand new offer, White is starting to think about official visits.

“I’m taking one of them to Army, possibly one to Lafayette, but I’m still waiting as of right now,” said White.

White finished with 1,550 yards passing and 18 touchdowns, while rushing for approximately 800 yards and 9 touchdowns./////

New to our scout.com list (offered):

Jacob Siwicki RB Dematha

http://recruiting.scout.com/a.z?s=73&p=8&c=1&nid=4755990

Lots of FCS offers for this player, if our Fin Aid office pulls another all-American RB from Colgate-like performance we dont stand a chance.

Lafalum--could you please address the issue of how our Fin Aid people determine an individual recruit's need vis-a-vis the competition.  Are you aware of wide discrepancy?   Do we use a more restrictive formula?  Is the competition cheating for priority players? Are the aid awards around the league made known to all members? What's going on? Thanks.
Lafalum

It is a black box for sure. It is point of contention by all our coaches except for the scholarship sports. I did hear of one candidate (from Jersey) who was recently offered by us for 9k, Holy Cross for 24 k, and Brown for 30 k. I'm sorry I can't enlighten you. I have heard that we included in a candidate's net worth the family's equity in their house while other schools did not. That probably is now helpful to us now.
But I do not know how the calculations are done.

Several years ago Brown was sued under the anti-trust laws for colluding with the other Ivies on financial aid calculations, since then schools have basically developed their own black boxes. Most of our coaches think the other guys cheat and I'm sure the other coaches think we cheat.
I remember one of our recent presidents being horrified that potential students actually shopped their aid offers!! Go figure.

The Ivies, especially Harvard, Princeton and Yale , can offer a free education to families earning apron 120,000. Is it an athletic scholarship? Its actually better because they could have 100 athletes on the sidelines with that kind of offer where even a BCS school could only offer to 85.

Thanks!  Not having a uniform league wide formula seems ridiculous and invites cheating--although apparently one needn't cheat to beat us.  There should be a standard calculation to determine every recruits maximum need (i presumed the FAFSA served that purpose) and each league member  then decide how much of that figure to meet.  I'm aware of the Jersey player you reference, we're not talking chump change there, as you point out.  This is outrageous!  Of course they're gonna shop around!   I dont know how Coach T stands the frustration.

Yeah, need based is SOOO much more honorable and moral. It's absurd. Just let the marketplace decide how much you want to spend on any individual. Cap the amount of total equivalencies and give it out irrespective of need. We all know what that is called.

I don't claim to be an expert on our aid formula, but I know that in my day the aid offer from Lafayette was often better than the offer at other schools.  Many of my teamates had a better offer from Lafayette than other PL schools.  It may have changed.
Andy

Must have changed, FT.   Our coach knows a potential all-American RB when he sees one.  When the offer is 15-20k less than the competition may we assume a problem exists? (that is the rumoured $ figure .  Gary interviewed Macdonald, new head of Admissions and Fin Aid (from Rochester), last night who claimed to be working well with the athletic dept. "Their goals are our goals."   I guess our goal wasn't to sign the DB recruit from Jersey whom lafalum mentioned.

29, I concur on both the QB White (maybe a little raw at the position but heck of an athlete)  and the RB.
edge29

I beg to differ about White!!!  I don't see anything raw about him!  His throwing motion is one of the better I've seen.  Straight over the top.  One of the best ways to evaluate a QB is how effortlessly and accurately he throws the short ball.  All of Whites throws are on the money.  Most highlight films show big passes down the field (ala our current QB's!!).  This kids throws screens perfectly without a huge motion.  At the HS level, his footwork is perfect.  I've coached HS for 10+ years and can count on one finger how many kids Ive seen with his footwork.  He throws off his front foot every time, even when he's hurried.  I'm surprised he hasnt been courted by more FBS schools.

But, all this is for nothing since we'll never land this kid.  Frank wouldn't play him anyway!!Smile

I'm surprised he hasnt been court by more FBS schools.

Sounds good, 29!  It would be the best throwing motion/arm strength combo we've seen around here in a while, for sure.  I'm not a coach but his natural athleticism shows. We can dream!

I think we should start passing a hat around to land some of these guys!! Smile

Former Jupiter Christian standout Will Powers, who spent a post-graduate year at Salisbury (Conn.) Prep, may be Princeton-bound. He took an official visit to the school two weekends ago, and has upcoming official visits to Yale, Penn and Cornell. He may visit one of Columbia, Lehigh or Lafayette with his remaining official trip, according to his father, Jupiter Christian coach Bill Powers.

Hillcrest, NY (WBNG Binghamton)

Last week Spencer Wallach was named a first team selection for the class "B" defensive unit.

Today he signed his national letter of intent.
He had made a verbal commitment to Colgate in 2010, and today he says he felt some relief in making that final.////

I didnt realize Colgate offered an Education major.

How does one sign a NLI in January?????
Xboreturns

I think that NLIs are only used for scholarship offers.  Back in the day when we didn't have basketball scholarships none of our recruits signed NLIs. Its probably just a case of the player/parents not knowing the difference.

I know Lafayette football uses a contrcat letter when a recruit signs, but I dont believe it is an official letter of intent.  It sort of states the financial aid the recruit will recieve and binds the recruit to the school, but it is not the same as the NLI as I understand.
Andy

Commitments are non-binding and verbal at this point on the calendar.  What is Gate having him sign?   How could he "make it final"?    Is it an effort to "lock in" the player in the player's mind?

As you suggest, maybe in the non-schol environment  forms can be signed. (we know it's not formally an NLI) Maybe all league members do this, I wouldnt know, but I'm curious re the process.

... the interest in Carriker, a second-team All-Met player, has turned into concrete offers from various schools. And during an official visit over the weekend, Carriker verbally committed to Maine, a Division I-AA school, to play football next season.

Dan Carriker, a 6-foot-2, 300-pound lineman, was also weighing offers from William & Mary, Concord and Lafayette, and interest from others such as the Virginia Military Institute./////

Colgate scores Eachus' replacement:

Sun Sentinel:

Danny Epstein, Cypress Bay senior running back verbally committed to Colgate, out of the Patriot League, on Sunday after visiting the Hamilton, N.Y., university...

The 5-foot-10, 205-pound Epstein helped lead a young Lightning squad to its first regional championship berth, rushing for 1,267 yards on 205 carries. He picked Colgate over Central Michigan, Eastern Illinois and FIU.

Epstein's host on his visit to Colgate was junior running back Nate Eachus. Eachus earned All-America honors after rushing for 1,871 yards and 21 touchdowns on 317 carries. He also caught 17 passes for 160 yards and a TD.

Epstein said the plan is to learn playing behind Eachus in 2011 and then he will get his shot./////

Would it be fair to guess there's a generous aid package involved?

ESPN Insiders:

Evaluation
Epstein is a tough inside runner capable of additional production as a check down receiver. Has the size and playing speed for the running back position at the major level of competition. This prospect demonstrates good vision and quickness lining up in two point stance from a four yard depth;...////

Rivals:
RB Danny Epstein Weston, Florida
Cypress Bay 5'11" 210 N/A 2 stars 5.3 N/A Colgate////

Also:

ATH Matt Giachinta, who played for former Pard LB Chris Partridge at Paramus Catholic,  committed to Army per Rivals.

Maybe it's me... but our leads do not seem to be as strong as in year's past... maybe sources have diminished, we are just not as enthusiastic in finding the recruits, or maybe there are no recruits of note??

Can only speak for myself, p4l, and assure you that I'm vigorously searching.  Pls remember these type of commitment announcements usually follow recruiting weekends, and ours are upcoming.   QB was obviously a prioity with our staff as evidenced by the two early commits. (the 2nd of which I havent seen published).
Andy

Regarding the Colgate commit, Epstein, I had previously posted this info from the Sun Sentinel in Oct:

Getting back to Cypress Bay's Epstein, besides Central Michigan the running back (5-11 205) also has offers from Eastern Illinois, Towson and Lafayette. Both Washington and Epstein are ranked among the Sun Sentinel's top 50 prospects in Broward County for the Class of 2011./////

I would think it important to find these top level players where there is apparently no Ivy involvement and PL schools dont have to fight both the money AND the prestige factor as was the case apparently with Eachus and this kid.   Just the money.
Andy

St Pete newspaper prior to Epstein verbal:

Jefferson senior running back Demetrius Russell has received interest from Colgate and Wake Forest../////

Returns continue to be reported from Colgate's recruiting weekend. From the Colgate board (Times Leader):

The Wyoming Valley Conference pipeline to Colgate University continued Wednesday when Tunkhannock lineman Owen Houser verbally committed to the Football Championship Subdivision program.

Houser – a 6-foot-3, 305-pounder – visited Lehigh University over the weekend and then headed to Colgate on Monday. He had another visit scheduled for Bucknell University this coming weekend, but cancelled it.///

As good as Scheuerman has been on the mat, his exploits on the gridiron as a standout running back for Allentown coach Jay Graber may have been even more impressive, where his resume includes games such as the seven-touchdown effort against Trenton High back in September.

Unfortunately for Scheuerman, two-sport standouts inevitably face scheduling conflicts from time to time, and he will be unable to attend the All-Star Invitational due to a football recruiting visit at Lafayette College scheduled the same weekend.

"I was upset that I wasn't going to be able to make it," said Scheuerman, who has narrowed his college search down to Lafayette and Lehigh University./////

Well, you got more than we did.  Couldnt see that far.

Freedom possible--Zach Mazur 6-4 280
Trinity--Garrett McNally  6-6 305

Time to restore the OL mojo.   Fingers crossed.

The Shawnee P/K would be Austin O'Brien. A big boy. His films only show him kicking off blocks, and his stutter-step/lean-back form needs work, but he's got a strong and accurate leg and hopefully they'll have a ST coach work with him to bring him to the next level. Oh wait: we don't HAVE a ST coach... Hey - Harvard has a ST coach, and since we're supposed to stay competitive with Harvard, maybe Danny-boy will pony-up for a ST coach. Ya think?

Colgate commitment from DT Jeff Koch 6-0 280 over offers from Navy, Air Force, others. That's at least 4 commits from FL.

Did anyone tell Colgate that scholarships were not approved?  Crying or Very sad

Nine days to NLI signing day.

Will Weiss allow us to fly kids up from FL,  you know, considering the economic conditions and all?

Colgate had a few kids from Florida over the years, but they are hitting it hard this year.  The median incomes in many areas of Florida are well below that of most of the Northeast recruiting areas-- NJ, NY, SEPA, Maryland etc.  Perhaps this helps them offer a quality financial aid package more easily to many of these Florida kids.

I'm with you 100%, FT, on the necessity of non-schol schools recruiting in high need areas.   But it's expensive.   Takes money and a commitment to winning.

In other years we had quite a few recruits identified by late Jan.  This year Colgate, Lehigh, and even Bucknell are signing kids right and left and we have nobody.  I am not feeling good at this point.

Seems slow, I agree.  Our primary recruiting weekends may be a week behind our normal pattern. Not sure, FT.  If we dont have some published commits from a solid player or two by tomorrow night (coming out of the recruiting weekend), I will be surprised.  We do have some unpublished commits.   Gate very strong early signing kids who had other published offers. HC with at least five published commits inc good RB from OH.

Any QBs other than Ohradzansky from Ohio?
Refrider

got a commit

Freedom offensive lineman Zach Mazur has given an oral commitment to Lafayette and will sign with the school once the signing period opens next week. Freedom coach Jason Roeder made the announcement in an e-mail Monday.

Mazur, a 6-4, 280-pound senior, was a two-year starter and three-year letterwinner for the Patriots. He also considered two other Patriot League schools, Lehigh and Holy Cross, before settling on Lafayette.

He blocked for some of the area's top running backs during his career, including Darrius Webb in 2009 and Eddie Elliot this past fall. Mazur plans to pursue a degree in engineering.

Yeah, one for the good guys!   Great to see.    We may have 2 new faces on the OL this season then 3 more next  year as Buff, Biel and Welch graduate.

Rivals 3 star recruit Alonzo Harris from Alabama.  6' 1" 200 lb RB also recruited by schools like Kentucky and Florida State. Is this real or a mistake by rivals?

edit-- looks like the kid committed to LA-Lafayette.  This seemed too good to be true.
