Since nobody mention it: Congrats to Matt Bentley for being named the Patriot League Scholar-Athlete in men's basketball. It's a great achievement of your part. Way to go!
Happy Birthday to Paul C. Your birthday on St. Patrick's Day! Don't have to much green beer.
Lafayette ended up playing five teams that made it in this year's Big Dance: UMBC, Mount St. Mary's, American, Pittsburgh, and Mississippi State.
In the N.I.T. we faced only one team: Robert Morris.
Best of luck to all the senior players. I enjoyed watching you play over the last four years.
210 days (?) until first practice!

All I want is an off-season with NO surprises. Visockas, Benbow, Wheeler and Mintz ALL need to be back on roster next season. Our success (or lack thereof) over the past few seasons has been at least partly influenced by defections.
Anderrsen (sp) and Hines wouldn't have been the tipping point that led us to a title--but both would've been nice to have this season--and wouldn't have the cupboard as bare for next year.
I liked Visockas and Mintz a lot--I'm sure Benbow and Wheeler got caught in the numbers game and have plenty to show us and we have a good recruiting class coming in. With Brown returning I don't think the situation is dire--but we need to KEEP our kids here! I just hope it's a quiet offseason.

Couldn't agree more. I'd like to see Benbow with more muscle on him and Mintz and Koltun work on their footwork. (Mintz the better of the two).
Can these guys be playing more basketball in the off season?? The Rome trip was very helpful and we can't repeat it for four years but that extra playing time was very useful.
I have no idea how recruits will work out until I see them. As I've said before all the speculation on this board about recruits (in any sport) is just that and its hard for me to get excited unless they were superstars and I don't see that on any PL team.

It's a LOT easier to predict hoops success at the next level than football success. TONS easier. Hence the kids that come out of high school that go pro.
I'd be very surprised if Willen isn't a very good player for us---to name just one.

I am also excited about Willen. He not only looks like a player, he looks like a Fran type player in that he appears top be a shooter. Other points:
It's getting real close to "now or never" time for Koltun. In his defense, I thought that he had a few moments this past season, but just never inspired much confidence with Fran. Can anyone enlighten me in this area?
I agree that Mintz showed some real promise. (So, here's to you 137 and KenZ who had some chuckles at his expense after he was recruited, saying that he "played in the best Jewish league in Toronto," or words to that effect.) Stiil, he looks like that "nice extra guy" down low, rather than "the answer." Does anyone have a better handle on where he fits in long term?
My initial thoughts were that next year's team would take a big step backwards from the bunch that just graduated, but that sorry-ass 1-8 finish coupled with a look at our returning guards (Brown, Gruner, Kari, Visockas, and who(m)ever else steps up) says that it won't be as big a step as I first thought. The key is up front. As much as we may have loved Betley, Detmer, Schmidt and Abdullah who swung into the front court on a regular basis, these guys really didn't cause too many opposing coaches to lose a lot of sleep. This is do-able, and "adequate"/"not embarrassing" is obtainable while Fran and his crew get better at beating the bushes.

be fair. i never made any such comments about Mintz or any other Lafayette recruit. all my chuckles are at your expense carney.

I um....yeah...kind of...made fun of Mintz's level of high school competition.
I reluctantly fess up.
I guess it sorta proves my above point...You can spot talent a lot easier in hoops. That's why I don't get too caught up in football recruiting talk...I'm willing to bet there have been a LOT more busts in football than hoops...Austin Scott comes to mind. Actually if you want to here a prediction---I think Pryor won't come close to matching his hype at OSU.
I guess that's a football thread.

Fair? FAIR? KenZ, I blame you for everything back to, and including the Peloponnesian War. Well, maybe only the first Peloponnesian War, but not the second. Even if you didn't do it, you did.

You may be right. Rodriguez would have made better use of his talents at Michigan than I believe Tressel will @ OSU.

oh, well when you explain it that way, it's hard to have any complaints. props for you consistency.

The quotes I have heard from Pryor indicate that he wanted to go to Ohio State because they will run a more pro style offense and prepare him better for the nest level. He is a TREMENDOUS athlete, but yes it will be next to impossible for him to live up to his enormouss expectations

It was just ridiculous watching him against 2A competition. A true "man among boys." I would think if getting to the pros was the ultimate he would've chosen to go to a 4A school. He's in for a SERIOUS learning curve---I don't mean to keep harping on this guy but I don't think he's "all that."
I'm going to hijack this thread and move it to football...but here's another prediction: Beale will flop too. I watched Eachus eat him for breakfast--makes it all the worse Colgate landed Eachus

How does he chose a AAAA public school he is from Jeanette, and other schools in the area are also AA or AAA. AA competition is just fine, especially in the WPIAL. Even if he played AAAA he would still only come in contcat with a few other D-I prospects. No matter how good your HS competition is college is a big step-up. I played with guys who went to programs who were suspossedly the national power type programs and they werent any better prepared for college ball than I was. I do agree however that Beale is vastly overrated. He has the physical tools, but just not sure he is really that great of a FB player.

Somewhat ridiculous statement on my part--I'll admit--since I don't like people transferring schools for athletic reasons to begin with. While the PIAL is miles ahead of say...the Colonial League....I still feel like I'm watching the games in slow motion when I watch the 2A games.
I guess my ultimate bottom line statement is--I place VERY little in the way of emphasis on high school ratings for football.

I will agree that it is hard to judge. At the AA level the problem is that half the team is solid players and the other half not so much. In AAAA most of the team is solid, but they would still all pale in comparison to a kid like him
