Record Board

Excellent  chart that shows how our weak OOC schedules are in part disguising and even weaker performance in conference in all sports. We are falling behind our peers and this is not a one year thing. Sports we had been successful in we are now failing baldy. This calls for a change at the top.

How does that happen?  Except for this forum, there appears to be no sense of urgency on the Hill.

I *esitated to put up this table because I know recruits look at this forum. However I don't think many - even in Kirby - have a holistic view of just how bad we are doing.

I'm thinking a #rollpards, #22% Twitter campaign 😃

I have been underestimating the records since basketball opened. Including the football loss to Lehigh we are 1-10- ironically the same record as the football team for the season The sports programs are in the deplorable state they are in because noone who matters cares. As I have said before it seems to be business as usual in the halls of Kirby Field House and by the president and BOT. I have no animus towards Frank Tavani but I don't understand how someone who presides over the worst record on the field in the 125 +/- years the school has been playing football can retain his job. He also tied the worst record with a 2-9 record a few years ago. That Brad Wilson article sums up all that has been apparent to followers of the team. The worst part of the situation in football is that the black cloud has a black lining- there does not exist a genuine chance for a turn around - merely a prayer. It's not just football but the results in the scholarship era have been mind boggling and a scarcely calculable waste of money.

That's for sure. The AD was rehired after posting a similar long term record. Of course, the guy who rehired him bailed out.

IF the department is funded at a level commensurate with the PL competition, the Ath Administrators should not be collecting paychecks. Is it Bruce or the Admin or both? My money is on the Administration who wants a passive, yes man AD. To the Alums - "You want your Div 1 Athletic program - here you go."

What a disgrace.

Anyone citing this football season as a reason for doom and gloom is disingeuous or misinformed. 15 players lost for the year is a legit excuse. The team was 8-4 in the league the prior two years. If we're a "black cloud" where does that put the rest of the league?  One problem though - who is the genius who scheduled Army, Villanove, Princeton, Delaware in the same season? Yikes!

In the "scholarship era" in men's hoops we have a championship and several trips to the finals. When you lose four senior contributors, it takes a while to recover.

Women's hoops, scholarship soccer. Horrible.

Great chart. I was remiss in not posting the yearly "vs Lehigh" thread.

Yes - like any statistics - these don't give the most holistic picture. While they give a snapshot of 2 months - I'd may try and do a longer period (I'm pretty amped I figured out how to do images!) . While I'm not as forgiving as you regarding the football program I would be disengenuous (your word fits - no sarcasm intended) - to not acknowledge the perfect storm that hit the program this year. I don't see a program with no hope for recovery - but I don't see one that will contend next year. But Lehigh hardly humiliated us - they were clearly better - but we belonged on the same field, and that was the first game we had a good amount of starters.

Certainly agreed on Men's basketball. Fran's teams virtually always get better as the season goes on and we don't lose seniors of the caliber of last year's group without a drop off.

But you have to look at the whole athletic program for a feel for the Marquis sports. There is  no leadership. We are adequately funded, our facilities are good, we have scholarships,  and over the last several years we can't even make the playoffs. Where is the responsibly? Since it occurs over virtually the entire department the blame belongs at the top.

It was all so clear a few years ago:
1) Football scholarships
Would lead to
2) better players leading to
3) better Lafayettr teams and allowing
4) better schedules.
Scholarships and better schedules arrived. As we enter Year Four of the scholarship football era, 2 and 3 are lacking.
The only other things that are getting better are the excuses.

Totally agree.
Separately, I wish we had a qb who could run. An offensive weapon. (I'm not talking about bringing back the Single Wing, either.)  It would have an immediate impact like nothing else I can think of.

Agree.  Many of our programs are adequately funded, yet many of those programs are astoundingly bad.  We haven't had a winning season is women's basketball in something like 20 years.  This is the Patriot League, how does up that happen?

We just finished the worst season of football in about 50 years, and possib,y ever.  Our AD doesn't say a darn thing.  Not "we will get this fixed" nothing regarding Frank and his lame duck status with his contract.   Not a peep. I don't think he even cares a little.
