Xbo has told us that Tammy has maybe one guard lined up for the '06-'07 recruiting class. Any updates, X? I really believe Tammy's future lies with this class. How about no difference makers, we start over fresh with a new staff?
While we're still working on this year, our competition has moved on to next:
A 6-foot-2 center, Mann took her game to new heights this year, and took her team along with her as the Bulldogs finished the season 25-5, winning the BCSL-American league title and reaching the North 2, Group 2 sectional final where they lost to Hanover Park.
"She went from a classic back-to-basket post to being an inside-outside player," Rutherford coach Nick DeBari said. "She can really hurt you on the inside."
With most teams playing zone against Rutherford, Mann's development as an outside shooter created problems for opponents, as she drained 21 3-pointers and turned up her offensive output all over the floor, averaging 16 points and eight rebounds this season.
"It's hard to cover her, she's a huge presence offensively, she's got great footwork, because she can play back to the basket or on the perimeter," DeBari said.
On defense, Mann was just as effective, with 2 blocks a game and long arms that kept most teams shooting from the outside.
"For every shot she blocks she probably alters five more," DeBari said. "She blocks one and then the next time they change their shot."
Mann, who hit 1,000 points in February, is a first-time All-Area selection and first-team All Bergen County pick. She is getting looks from a variety of Patriot League teams, including Bucknell, LeHigh and Navy.
Jessica Knapp, Becton, junior forward:
A three-year starter for the Wildcats, Knapp took the role of leader for Becton this season and helped the Wildcats reach the semifinals of the North 2, Group 1 sectional, upsetting No. 2 seed Hoboken on the way.
"This was her year to take the team over," Becton coach Mike Ryan said. "She really improved more on the outside. Losing Karen (Lassoni, last year's star point guard) we really needed some help on the perimeter and she worked a lot on that."
With an inexperienced team surrounding her, Knapp stepped out of her role in the post and out to the perimeter, where she continued to dominate on offense.
Knapp averaged 19.2 points and 12 rebounds per game, and she rose to the occasion in the big games. Against Hoboken in the sectional quarterfinal, Knapp scored 24 points and pulled down 19 rebounds. Defensively, she added eight blocks and had six steals.
"She's very quick," Ryan said. "She anticipates very well and her quickness is deceiving because of her size, so with those long arms and anticipation she really does well on defense."
On the defensive end, Knapp had three steals per game and tortured teams around the area with her fast-break skills.
Knapp, who already has 1,260 career points, is a first-time All-Area selection and first-time first-team All-Bergen County selection. She is getting looks from a variety of MAAC and Patriot League teams, including Lehigh and Marist.

I know they continue to have kids visit. The bigest problem I understand is that the academic requirements are a LOT tougher than before scholarships. (This is a problem on the men's side also). I've been told that other PL schools are taking kids with SATs under 1000 and our admissions will not even look at them.
I think they need to give the coaches a little more room. Afterall, if they bring in a player who only lasts a year, they are only hurting themselves as they could not replace that player with another scholarship player.
The basketball banquet is April 7, maybe we'll hear a little more then.
BTW, I thought Bucknell had their 3 recruits: Highham, Novachek, and Phillips.

I don't buy that the other schools are letting in those with under 1000 Sats. I hear that as an excuse!! First its a violation of the AI for all of the PL schools. These coaches just have to get with the program. Which means identifying recruits early and get the admissions office to peak their interest and sell. I don't want recruits with under 1000 when our average scores are close to 1300. It also may mean broadening our geographical reach.
If we can't get coaches who can recruit at that level.... then get someone else!! Its part of the job.

I don't know, X, it looks like the scores for the women have risen to a respectable level across the board:
Recruiting years '03, '04, '05--(# of recruits) average SAT:
My point on the recruits in the newspaper article is that they're '08 recruits while we're still working on '07s, apparently.
Andy, that's interesting SAT data that I didn't know was available. Can you tell me where one might access this info? Thanks.
Also, is similar data available for Holy Cross and American? (I assume it is not available for Army/Navy.)
In answer to the earlier comment about Bucknell having their three recruits, BU currently has only nine women players on scholarship, two of whom graduate this year. With the three new ones coming in, that still leaves two more available scholarships. My guess is that they are trying to bring in one more post player, a position that is a HUGE neeed, and then save the other scholarship for next year.
Currently the BU women have exactly one player taller than 6'0" and she is quite thin and not really a center. That player, Hope Foster, has one year of eligibility left. There is one center-type coming in (Novacek) - thus the need for another post player.
Andy
137,
The data is included (usually) in the respective school's NCAA Certification Self-Study report. Search any school's .edu site. I couldn't find one for HC or Fordham. Princeton has a report on-line minus the data which they keep confidential.
I've seen Novachek play and I don't believe she'll be a post player. I don't think she's strong enough or has the body to be a post player. More than likely she will be a 4.
Andy, it appears that your statistics support my statement that some schools are taking players with SATs under 1000. I'd be willing to bet if a school has 3 recruits with an average SAT of 1057, that one of them is below 1000.

It's certainly possible, X, but that 1057 was four recruiting years ago. I get the feeling that the league has made an effort to raise the academic profile of the athletes in the past few years. I noticed a few football recruits with published SAT scores in the 900s who were offered by more than one PL member. The offers were eventually withdrawn, I assumed because the scores were not raised to an acceptable level--presumably 1000. All guess work on my part, X, and believe me, I respect your track record of accuracy.

The studies are interesting but they appear to be too out-of-date to be useful in terms of what is happening now in the PL. For example, the data listed for Bucknell is for the BU classes of 2005, 2006, and 2007. Two of these three classes have already graduated from college and the third one is about to graduate. More importantly, only the third class listed is for scholarship athletes, i.e. the average SAT of 1180. It will be interesting to see the next study, when it will contain more data for the scholarship era.
As for Novacek, I agree that she may not be the prototypical D1 center. However, given that Bucknell has no centers on the roster, she will probably be the closest we have to one. At 6'2" (if that is an accurate height), she will be one of only two players taller than 6'0".

First day of the "regular signing period" is Wednesday. I'm not holding my breath for an announcement from Tammy.
Any news from the banquet, X?
pardon me
banquet news
All that I heard out of the banquet is tammy forgot to introduce one of her player and the parent of the player walked out of the banquet. This coach doesn't even know the players on the team.Sad Sad Sad!How much longer will we have to put up with this?
The Maroon
OUCH
I hope that's not true.
OK...mistakes are made...and Bruce is making a much bigger one.
I know you read this Dr. B--you've made some astute personnel decisions in your day but keeping Tammy is a HORRID move. Next year the team will win a few more games and you'll think you made the right move---In two years they'll lose 23 games and you'll know you didn't.
pardon me
Agree 100%
This team will be competative next year but when VVD,Purr ,Gomez,Johnson are gone they will take a step back and I dont want to think when this years sofs leave. OH My I havent seen any thing out of the freshman that will lead me to believe that this team will be as good as it is now. P.S.She did forget to introduce a player.Lame

you've mentioned this twice in three posts, your other one was a lame attempt at humor by announcing Tammy had resigned. have anything else to add?

Rumor on a second recruit.
Possible signing of a 5-9 guard from Eleanor Roosevelt HS in Maryland. A name that fits that description is LaKeisha Wright. 4th team AS. Anyboby know more?
The Maroon
Well I just don't have the google skills because I couldn't find anything in the world connecting LaKeisha to Lafayette. Doesn't mean it's wrong---I just can't find anything in The Washington Post, and local rags in Prince George's county...anywhere.
Is it safe to say recruiting is done? I know they're pretty much done recruiting for the spring sports before the spring season begins. I can't imagine Tammy doesn't know who is going to be joining her team next season. If she's still fishing, the big ones are gone. I guess we'll have to wait a couple weeks for all of us to know.
seenalot
If Tammy and Fran know all their signings, why wouldnt they announce?

We stink
We stink. We have stunk for years and we will almost surely be horrible next year and probably years to come. Everybody sees this except those who make decisions.
Andy
Can't confirm, but certainly possible as she looks to have been unsigned heading into the spring signing period.
Gazette:
LaKeisha Wright, Roosevelt, senior: Wright capped her varsity career in grand fashion, helping the Raiders to a third straight state 4A championship. The 5-10 guard averaged 13.7 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.8 steals for Roosevelt, which became the third county team to win three straight titles. Wright, a second-team Star⁄Gazette selection last season, is being recruited by East Carolina, Maryland-Eastern Shore, Navy and Rider.
Wash Post 4/5/07:
G LaKeisha Wright, Eleanor Roosevelt, 5-10, Sr.
Two-year starter was a leader on the court as Raiders claimed third consecutive Maryland 4A title. Averaged 13.2 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Is being recruited by Navy, Bucknell and East Carolina.
Andy
I spoke to XBO at a few baseball games--he still has an apparent technical problem with posting here. However, he reports that Brooke is back from injury and looking good, and that Smith has trimmed down with resultant improvment in her game.

The only confirmation I've been able to find--from a message board, 5/16:
Prince George's county by my count now has 10 girl's in the class of 07 who have signed with a Div-1 program. Hopefully, that number will increase over the next few weeks/months.
The list is below please add any omissions.
1. Zakia Brown - Parkdale (Howard
2. Monica McNutt - Holy Cross (Georgetown)
3. D. Bryant -St. John's (St. Joes)
4. Katerine Dehenzel - St. John's ( Willima & Mary)
5. Tanisha Harrison - St. John's (Pitt)
6. Kendall Shepard - Northwestern (UNC-Asheville)
7. Ciera Hayes - Riverdale Baptist (Radford)
8. Robin Colbert - Holy Cross (App. State)
9. LaKeisha Wright - E. Roosevelt ( Lafayette)
10. Talia Moten - Suitland ( Mt. St. Mary's)

Hey Wow....How about me? A post made in the Spring of 2007. Two years later I'm looking pretty daggone prophetic.
So we won't get to 23 losses but the point remains the same, we made a jump last year and we took a good step back this year and the outlook looks bleak for next year.
Although, it didn't take Nostradamus to see this coming.
