I am watching Rice the game (first time I have seen a whole game) OUr passing is awful. Turnovers turnovers!!! This game is winable......Wright played very well. Nice win( they all are) but we should have won this game in regular time. But a nice effort.

Hope everyone had a great Christmas.
Now that pre-season is rapidly coming to a close, what's everyone's assessment of this year's team? Here's mine:
Spicer, Garner, and Zavocki appear to be providing the expected leadership, albeit not as consistent as expected. They are the core of the team.
Wright is still a force when not in foul trouble and appears to have improved her foul shooting. I also understand her academics are still questionable but she's eligible for the second half of the year.
Virgin appears to be the biggest breakthrough with double figure games in both scoring and rebounding.
Smith beganthe season as a starter, then got replaced by Virgin, but has provided some quality minutes off the bench. Still lots of potential there
Those are the six players that are getting most of the playing time. Jackson had a couple of big games in the WNIT, but hasn't followed that up with anything as a breakthrough and doesn't appear to be Tammy's first choice as Spicer's replacement at the point.
Freshman McCorry is getting some minutes and has played well when given the chance. Freshman Serowoky has showed a lot of promise, but an arm injury has kept her from playing in the last several games. Freshman Downey has seen limited action as Spicer's back-up at point guard, but Tammy pulls her the second she makes a mistake. (It's hard to learn the game and our offense this way).
Of course, there's the coaching, which I still haven't figured out.
I'm looking forward to the new year, league play, and everyone's comments

I'm reluctant to get too excited about this team as last year I jumped on the bandwagon early and wound up being called a "human windshield wiper" when things went downhill.
We played some extremely good teams on the road and we are undefeated at home. Best case scenario, this team has one more win than they do right now, so I guess so far this season has been a successful one.
As Tammy's teams always do, we play good defense, we rebound well, we play hard, we have fun and we never say die. That's gonna win us some games. It has won us some games.
I agree with you: Virgin's emergence has been the story so far this year--although it wasn't unexpected. She certainly showed some ability last season. She's a complete player. I'm also very hopeful about Serowsky--I've heard rave reviews.
Still, offensivelly I think this team has a LONG way to go. A junior high coach could scout us. Run a zone press because I have yet to see that we can beat it with any regularity. Find Zavocki because she is by far our biggest 3 point threat....Keep coming with fresh bodies at Spicer because we fall apart when she's not out there. Take your chances on fouling Wright--chances are she'll get one point instead of two.
Right now, my most optimistic (and I mean THE best case scenario) forecast is a 14-15 regular season--but, I am the human windshield wiper. Given the recent history of this program, I have no idea what is reasonable to expect at this point. Should we be happy that the era of 7-70 is well behind us? Or should we be at a point where we are true "contendors."
Either way I enjoy watching this team and I'll be at Kirby whenever my schedule allows it.
