rosa jonchkeer named rookie of the week

Rosa name PL rookie of the week, Magadan an honorable mention for player of the week. NCAA rpi ranking puts Lafayette at 23 despite loss at Hofstra. This week on Friday they play number 9 Boston University ( nor 11 rpi), who is undefeated.
Contact a field hockey player for a voucher for the canteen @ the game!!
The game is friday at 7 pm!!

Lafalum: Surprised at the loss to Hofstra - are they that good?  What happened?

1. Long and difficult bus ride
2. Monday game
3. Got off to a good start and we let them believe they could win.
4 We used our bench a lot, they didn't
5. They are not bad and they played hard especially against our subs.
6 turnovers ( we have to protect the ball)

That's about it, BU will our toughest opponent in the regular season. We must play our best game to win. We will need breaks. Only weakness I see is that they don't get many corners. I thought they ran up the score on Colgate.

Would be a big home win on Friday!

I have to say that I was completely surprised by this loss.  I had expected them to eke out a one or two goal victory, based on their recent performance, but not this.  I thought they had gotten this out of their system with the Monmouth game.

I am intrigued by two comments,

I'm not saying you're wrong or that I disagree with your assessment, but not having seen the game, why would this be a weakness?  My experience with college field hockey is that it is very difficult to get on the field.

I don't know.  Their website shows 46 corners over 7 games, which I think is a pretty decent rate.

We are really going to need our best defensive effort to win this one.  The offense is going to need to rely on some luck.

I didn't like how we matched up after our early goal. We needed to get the second goal and establish our superiority. With only 5 minutes gone I would have left whole starting team on the field. That was my impression for what it was worth. Hofstra got behind early at Yale, but played better as the game went on. They were not a bad team, playing on their turf. I am jus a fan so what so what do I know!

It's relative, less than 7 corners a game. As I look at their stats everything else is pretty solid ( albeit distorted by their last two games, a 5 and 9 goal win).
They are playing UCONN after us and their announcers and twitter accounts are  pumped about that. I am hoping they might be looking beyond us. We also play better at home. It would be a BIG win for us anyway you look at it.
Amazingly, in their Colgate game the halftime score was 0-0.

As for Monmouth, they just keep winning, beating Temple @ Temple. It is one reason for our RPI. Go Monmouth!!
