A strong second half effort, particularily on the defensive end, was the difference in today's game.
First half lapses in covering beyond the arc allowed Navy to hit six 3 pointers as they lead 32-28 at the break. Fortunately, LaKeisha Wright's inside quickness got us enough points to keep it close.
We held Navy to just 12 points in the second half on 19% shooting. Emily Garner took control over the last five minutes. Four players had double figures: VDV 17, Wright 14, Garner 11, and Zavocki 10.
Much better at the line 16-21, only 9 TOs, with 10 steals. On to the next hurdle, beating a decent team on the road.

Pretty good crowd for Women's game-great Leopard this year-the crowd was loud and having fun and it was great to see the women calmly pull away in the end.
Garner is tough, and Wright is something for a Fr.

And watching them play together yesterday was worth the trip. VVDV gives such consistent effort that I long ago began to take it for granted.

I'm glad someone finally mentioned The Leopard. He must have gone to mascot school or something because he DEFINITELY adds to the gameday experience. The kids love him, he gets the crowd fired up, he's entertaining---he's great!!! The atmosphere at Kirby was super yesterday. They (the athletic department) are doing an excellent job with all the promotions in making Kirby a great game-day atmosphere. I don't remember the last time we had 1000 for a stand-alone women's game. And the momentum only seems to be growing.
