These are the thoughts...

Here's a peak into my brain during the first half of last night's game:

"God Colgate Sucks"

"Look at that horrible shot....how bad is Colgate?"

"You know if Colgate could make a layup they might actually be able to beat a good high school team."

"OK...they're a pretty big team. But they still suck"

"Yeah....that girl with the ridiculously ugly form can hit three pointers, but they still stuck."

"Holy crap....we've played 16 minutes and were tied... We can't be tied to this team. They suck."

"You know what? They sucked last year and we managed to go 0-2 against them."

Two three pointers by Zavocki helped us close out the half strong with an 8 point lead. We expanded the lead to 14 with 5 minutes to go--but foul trouble (Wright and Spicer) and fatigue set in. They DARN near pulled a comeback fueled by Colgate's freshman Sami Kozlowski's hot hand. (24 points--all from 3 I think)

The Raiders cut it to 3 w/a little over a minute and had their chances. They shot 4 for 14 from the foul line in the second half and some of those were 1-1's. We had a lot of problem with Shevorne Martin's penetration (especially as time wore on-we got to find rest time for Spicer) and speed. We also missed some key foul shots down the stretch.

Hey...a win is a win is a win. But we're gonna have to play better on Saturday.

Welcome to the Patriot League play!  It's about the matchup.  We always have a tough time against Colgate, both men and women.  The fact both teams won is a miracle in itself.

Oh yeah---and they definitely paused some match up problems for us. It was harder for VVDV to drive across the lane like she normally does--but she still found a way to get hers.

We can't play that way and win in Hamilton. That place is death. The atmosphere at Kirby was really hot last night---the women are actualy starting to get a true home court advantage. Smaller numbers, but good spirit. Kids getting into it--it's nice. Cotterell Court is a morgue. It'll have the feel of a controlled scrimmage.

I hope I didn't come across as unhappy with the win (or any win)...I just try to give a perspective you won't get in the newspapers. Also this team has gotten to a point where the standards are raised....They are now "contenders" not participants--and so the critique is higher.

True they are contenders but they were contenders last year as well.  This team has to learn to win on the road.  last year they had the opportunity to finish 3rd in the league but faltered on the road at the end of the season.  They have to learn to win games at Holy Cross and not give it away at the free throw line.  There is no reason this team should not be battling for the top 3 spots in the league in February.  They have the talent.

For the record, Maroon, Kozlowski was 6 of 9 from the arc, 2 of 8 from inside it, and 2 of 4 from the line. However she got them, she's going to be a handful the next 3+ years, very quick release.

Although Colgate's zone D good a good job taking away our inside game with their tall front line, we did a much better job taking care of the ball, only 8 TOs compared to 20 at HC. Its a good thing Colgate didn't shoot well in the first half (26%) or it may have been a long night. In fact the only shooting I saw worse was the guy who almost decapitated the fan sitting on the base line with his half-court attempt.

If we are going to finish in the top 3, we need to learn how to win on the road and get more production from our bench (only 6 points against CU).

Oh Kozlowski is a handful. Her form is a textbook snapshot of how NOT to shoot...but it goes in, and they don't give style points. SHe's a nice player.

To say they shot badly in the first half is an understatement...Their shots weren't rimming out--they were breaking the backboard. Problem is we weren't shooting much better.

We have very possible road wins at Colgate, Lehigh, and Navy. If we hold serve at home (or go 5-1) and get 2 out of 3 of the above we should be top 3.

We need to find a way to spell Spicer, I simply don't think you can ask her to play at the pace she plays more than 30 minutes/game. The 4th foul was almost a blessing so she could regroup and help us finish.

Purr's been dressed but not on the court---any word on her?

Apparently Kozlowski likes the Pards.    Before that game, she was 15-60 (.250) on the year from beyond the arc.   In total, her FG pct was 35%.    Also, her assist to turnover mark is 51:104, so she has a ways to go.
