Time to get real

OK folks.

Ever since I stepped foot on campus at Lafayette I heard a bunch of hype that Lafayette lacrosse was on the cusp of becoming a national power.

And then the season would start.

And for years it was universally blamed on Bill Lawson. We had amazing talent and Bill Lawson was messing it up. I heard this for years.

Come on people: This program stinks like the rest of them. We have won 4 of our last 18 games. Take out 3 weeks last Spring and Terry Mangan's tenure has been singularly unimpressive. ONE PL tournament appearance. Yes I am fully aware that PL Lax is very strong - but come on.

Marist? We've had some pretty crapola teams handle Marist over the years.

Am I blaming Mangan? Absolutely not. Or at least not any more than I blame Statham, or Campbell, or whoever is coaching softball this week.

We are no closer to being a lax power than we ever were.

Even as you typed your post, our Athletic Director was formulating a plan where every athlete will have an opportunity to win a championship during their career.  The details will be announced shortly.

Can't argue with this.

When a coach has a league winning percentage of 22% over 8 yrs and still has a job it tells me that winning isnt important and/or his bosses feel it would be unconscionable to fire him cause they know the playing field ain't level.   When, in his 8th season, a coach finally has a winning team (.500 in league) and immediately looks to bail out, that also is telling.

I didn't realize the percentage was that low. You can argue pretty articulately that PL Lacrosse is very strong...So I guess we are content to battle it out with Holy Cross for last place every year.

I know there was a concerted effort by Mangan to get the alumni more involved and I'm sure there was a strong recruiting push but like everything else we're starting from too far back an not enough resources.

When Lawson retired they had an article about him the Express-Times that I soo wish I could reference. It was kind of the "don't win too much" dictum that Russo was given, except his marching orders were "we can't win much."

If nothing else I now understand why Lawson was kept for all of these years.

Is it time to drop both mens and womens lacrosse and allocate those resources elsewhere?

How would this affect the Athletic Directors plan to ensure that every athlete in every sport wins a championship during their four years?

Would dropping these two sports speed up or slow down the plan which is now in the final draft stage?

126 in the valley of Fisher Stadium for the women's game and 226 in the same place for the men's game in good whether on a week end where students just need to walk to the stadium, and I am told 10K plus to play there ( Paint the lines and remove them including labor and the cost of lights scoreboard etc.)  Is it a good use of funds ???  I don't think so. We have asst coaches earning less than that. Shameful waste of money. It may also say something about what attracts crowds at Lafayette (WINNING)

Man...When I titled this thread "Time to Get Real" I didn't mean it was time to start making a case to be everyone's homecoming opponent.

I am glad we provided with the Purple People in Worcester with their only win of the season...

Good God...

Well..at least Spring Sports end soon.

Stay inbounds, run the ball, no penalties, and RUN OUT THE CLOCK ON THIS YEAR OF LAFAYETTE ATHLETICS!!!

Outside of a memorable PL tournament in men's basketball and a PL tournament  and regular season challenge by field hockey this has been one of the worst years in Lafayette sports in recent memory.!!  This lacrosse season has been a MAJOR disappointment for both teams!! I can't even go to the games any more and I used to go regularly!!
