Maybe the Greyhounds should spend that money on trying to reinstate their football team. Rolling Eyes

Meanwhile, The Annoying Orange at #13 in the West Bracket draw W. Va. That's a game they can win if they shoot as well as they have been. They'd play Princeton if the Tigers can get past Notre Dame.  What a game that would be!

Although I did not see the game, Bucknell seemed to have represented themselves and the PL well.

Bison were highly competitive vs a group that looked a generation older.  I havent seen many of their games but Nana F. surprised me how he battled.  No easy drives down the lane by the WVU big kids.  The BU guard from Canada is a cool customer stepping up when Brown and Thomas seemed sub par shooting wise.  Was a 3 point game late.  And I'll say it, the calls never seem to go the way of these lower seeds.  (Ie Thomas getting body blocked, no call). Big things next year.

This brings up the annual issue of the recognition  a school can garner from a successful bball program vs football. I certainly am in favor of the level of support we give our fb team, I believe it's what our alumni want. However, competing with 11 scholarship players next year makes little sense to me. No urgency. HC is in a similar position and they have chosen to fill their roster with a class of 5 (IIRC).

Totally agree, I love FB but the benefits of being in the NCAA basketball tournament are incalculable. Giving men's basketball 11 scholarships ( because of  losing players) is absurd. He should be able to give five ( 3 normal and 2 to catch up).

I have been told it's our own accounting convention that stops it. Were we to have people that could make a cogent argument or even get to decision makers would certainly be an improvement. But we've heard that story before!

Laf, could this not be a decision made by Fran (as Xbo suggested before leaving the board)?  He gave 4 scholarships last year; Xbo thought Fran wanted to "even out the classes" , thus only 3 this year.  I'd rather use all available scholarships  to build a strong roster. I suppose he didn't want to put himself in a similar position to what we've seen the last 2 years after the graduation of the prior group of 4 (Trist et al).  Then again, considering all the offers made this year and not accepted, maybe Fran was trying and just couldn't find acceptable takers.

In his role as Athletic Administrator THAT is something Bruce should be able to sort out.   The fact that he cant speaks volumes.

That presupposes the FO can recruit players who can actually play D1 BB. The evidence is that he can't. Why waste $250,000 on someone who won't make a difference.
