TV Coverage ????

RCN has been sold for $1.6 billion. This includes not only the Lehigh Valley but their entire network, which includes DC and Boston. Have to wonder what their policy is on local programing of college, high school, etc. events.

Just a new PE firm, Patriot Media still managing operations so hopefully no shift in vision.

Google is also involved. There should be no immediate change but with the overbuild locally Service Electric Cable is now on notice. They may have to pursue a suitor or invest a ton. The deal is mainly about high-speed Internet.
Of course when an acquirer says "No change" well that doesn't mean much.

I have heard that the Patriot League is not enamored with the individual, local deals of their members.  Not sure what this means long term for LSN and similar outlets in the PL.

Also, they worked with Army to restrict "Knight Vision" to the only be offered for sports the Cadets weren't a member of PL (football, ice hockey, etc.).  If you recall, as recently as two years ago, road games at West Points were not available on PLN.

And what better alternative does PL see? Our national covrrage is CI,ASN and CBSN. Is there a single outlet looking to do PL sports? Does not appear to be so. I love our PL but ee are not a big draw. Guess it would be nice to get more coverage ,just dont see that on the horizon.

Well, the other vendor is Service Electric which is locally situated and devoted to local coverage. Their local coverage far exceeds RCN.

Service Electric covers Lehigh Football and Basketball, Iron Pigs minor league baseball and the Reading Phillies when Pigs are away, they use 2 channels and televise 4 basketball games during basketball playoffs, they also do local charity events such as bowling, golf, etc. This week, Music Fest, they televised the bands live from 11:00am to midnight for 8 days.

Service Electric also cover LV. Phantoms ice hockey home games now. They do not travel to Lehigh football games as RCN does with LSN for Leopards. Sports fans in the Lehigh Valley seem to have a wonderful deal, but if you happen to subscribe to RCN, you don't get any of that SECTV stuff. If you subscribe to SECTV, at least you can still get Lafayette football and basketball because of its connection with WBPH Channel 60, which is part of the SECTV package. It would be a shame if the league suddenly said schools could not make deals with cable companies. The league seems to get a pretty good deal and I imagine Lafayette and Lehigh and all the other teams, etc, are paying the freight. I know many of the PL coaches in various sports are somewhat envious of the kind of coverage the L.V. schools get from cable and the newspapers.

Lafayette has great on-air talent. Beloved even. Just great. The problem is the TV broadcasts look as if RCN pointed the cameras through a dirty aquarium between them and the action.
I see the images on SECTV so maybe they are better on RCN. SECTV has HD and great pictures.
We and Lehigh have the best package in the league: TV coverage, two papers and some dedicated bloggers for FB and FH, this board where a lot of news is broken and Lafayette's media department does a good job (I commend them, it's not easy to keep finding ways to spin losses; may their job be easier this year!)
Our big-city brethren get nothing like our exposure.
The future of media may be all schools, even high schools, selling video packages over the Internet with mostly automatic cameras.

Curious about that.   Over the past 7-8 years, almost every Bucknell game at Army (men and women) have been available on the PLN.

It was a problem that existed for, I believe, two years.  The PL mandated that Army open up its home league games to PLN following the 2013-14 season. Previously, these PL regular season games played in West Point were only available via subscription-based Knight Vision.

One example would have been the Bucknell at Army MBB game played on 1/19/14.

Actually the 1/19/14 game was carried by CBS Sports Network, not Army's network.   Looking back, every Bucknell game (men's and women's)at Army over the past decade appears to have been available on the PLN or PL All-Access/Bison Vision - according to the Bucknell pre-game articles and also the Game Notes.   The only exceptions were the men's games in 2014 and 2015, which were carried on CBS.   In the older years, you needed a subscription to Bison Vision or PL All-Access to view the games - but didn't need a subscription to Knight Vision.
