It was a game that may have set women's basketball back a couple of decades. I could say it was a defensive struggle but that wouldn't be accurate.
We did play decent defense and battled Army even on the boards but we scored only 20 points in the first and just 21 in the second half. We shot 22% from the floor (12 for 53), 9% from the arc (1 of 11). At least fifteen of the misses were within 3 feet of the basket. Many of those were two or more misses as we garnered 14 offensive rebounds.
Again we got behind big early, closed to within 4 near the end of the half only to have Army surge to a big lead again. Foul shooting kept us in the game as we went 16 for 22. The shooting was obviously very bad but the stat that stands out most to me is assists, we had only 4.
We must win on Saturday to have a .500 season in the league and overall.

The HUMAN WINDSHIELD WIPER IS BACK!!!
41 points with a 30 second shot clock...OUCH. My urchins were both sick so I watched Leone and Laubach. TO keep myself entertained for a while I was actually doing a "shot rating" chart where I rated good shot vs. bad shot--mainly to see the quality of shots our offense was giving us. Yes we took some bad shots (there isn't a team that doesn't, even in the NBA) , but we missed so many shots that were perfectly set up I got frustrated after 10 minutes.
10 minutes is about right. We had 4 points after 10 minutes. I hadn't seen anything like it since Princeton took a 22-6 lead into halftime at Kirby in 1990.
But we hung tough and got it down to a 6 point deficit in the second half. I thought we had'em. Army didn't play a great game but they kept making shots when they had too.
We just aren't getting enough inside. Purr's giving us everything she can but she can only play limited minutes. I take it Smith is hurt? Also Wright is playing through something and clearly is only about 70%.
We have a wonderful Senior day streak going and it would break my heart to see it end this year. Not with the Senior class we have. Plus 6-8 in the league after we went 5-9 last year and only lost Stetler and overall got so much better...No---we've gotta win Saturday.
Regardless of what happens Saturday, we're gonna draw either Army, Lehigh or Holy Cross in the tourney. All three are winnable and this is gonna sound insane but of the three I want the Crusaders. I REALLY believe we can take them.

Like HWW (Human Windshield Wiper) I got my news from Leone and Laubach.
How about shooting 1 for 16 coming out of the gate? That usually creates a hole you don't get out of. No baskets in the 1st 4+ minutes of the 2nd half didn't help either.
Both announcers were cautiously dancing around the fact that the Pards refused to take medium range jump shots (that Army was gladly giving them) in favor of those extra dribbles and extra steps that put them into heavy traffic.
I was struck in the early going by the team's inability to shoot a layup. I'm seriously talking about their inability to SHOOT a layup, not their inability to make a layup. I was reminded of my high school coach yelling "You're laying up, not throwing up." It was a bricklayer's convention.
Still, with one to go, this team, for me, falls into the same classification as the men's team: better than expected. We have emerged from those woeful days of not so long ago, and the future is hopeful. Wright is a keeper. Let's bring in a couple more like her.

We were picked 6th in the preseason poll, and that's where we are right now. Our overall record is better than I think most people expected.
Purr being injured this season really hurt--she's undersized but she has the perfect mentality down low and is a good passer.
Wright is clearly playing hurt---and I hope it's an injury that playing on it isn't affecting the recovery time.
We get ourselves a W on Saturday and trip to the PL semis (I still think realistic goals) and this will be considered a very good season.
