Wagner

Andrusko in goal tonight?  Did Hyatt really play poorly at Bingo?  Or is Wagner just a cupcake, so why not get Andrusko some PT.
Bogus Megapardus

Pards up 6-1 in the 2nd period.  This one should be a cakewalk.
Bogus Megapardus

Erasing the disaster up in Binghamton.  Need a lot of confidence going into Rutgers.  Pards can and should beat the Scarlet Knights.
Bogus Megapardus

Looks like just about every shot on goal is hitting the mark - now up 8-1 with 6:00 left in the half.

GO PARDS LAX!!!!!
Bogus Megapardus

10-1 Pards at the half.  13 shots on goal, of which 10 have gone in.  Not good goalie play from the Seahawks.  On top of that, Pards have 24 total shots to 5 for Wagner.  Pards are playing outstanding D, are efficient with their shots, and landing almost every one that hits the mark.

Only 7-6 favor on the FO however - an area that needs vast improvement.  Offensive efficiency means nothing if we can't gain and keep possession.  Luckily, we're 11-6 on turnovers, but even those 6 are too high against a team such as this.

I expect more conservative play by the Pards in the 2nd half, taking care of the ball but maybe running a few more experimental sets (which might result in a TO or three).  Let's work on those clears (to the extent the Seahawks land anything on goal) and strive for FO dominance, too.
Bogus Megapardus

12-1 with 10 mins left in the third.  Heffernan and Prusoff are lighting it up.
Bogus Megapardus

13-1.  Pards now beyond the 10 goal limit - running up the score could actually hurt their RPI.
Bogus Megapardus

Pards are emptying the bench.  Looks like Stubits is in goal.
Bogus Megapardus

End of third; Pards getting a little sloppy with the turnovers by subs, but Stubits is making the saves.
Bogus Megapardus

17-1 with 10 mins left in the game.  One of the most dominating performances ever by Pards lax.

Jake Hyatt now is in goal.

RPI does not use margin of victory in any way.   Only uses wins and losses.

You may be thinking of the laxpower computer rankings, which cap margin of victory at ten goals.    However winning by more than 10 does not hurt a team's ranking - it just stops helping it.

I meant LaxPower's power rankings.  You're absolutely correct, 137.  My mistake.  I've been living by those rankings for a long, long time!

But I think there's actually a subtraction for going well beyond the 10 goal differential.  I'm going to look at the formula again.
Bogus Megapardus

Wagner scores on the Pard third string.  Bummer.

17-2 with 5 mins left in the game.
Bogus Megapardus

19 -2 Pards with 3 mins left

I want an even 20 (and to crush Bucknell on St. Paddy's Day!)
Bogus Megapardus

Pards win 19-2.  I can't tell right off what is the largest margin of victory for men's lacrosse, but this one has to be right up there.

We played three different goalies.  Ended up winning the faceoff battle and scoring on 19 out of 25 SOG.  Prusoff scored three and Galione scored three from the middie position coming off the bench.  Brian Bock had three assists in addition to his 2 goals.  Will Heffernan had 2 goals and 2 assists.  Jake O'Brien and Anthony Zawadzki held their own on FO.  The excellence was spread around pretty well this evening.
PardsLax

Wow!  We really needed to win like this.  It was great to get the bench in relatively early in the 4th quarter.  Wagner hung in there with the Scarlet Knights until the 4th so may an "upset" is in the realm of possibility.  I really like the blend of youth and experience we are seeing.  This will pay dividents down the road.

Now for the bad news.  No PL teams in the top 20  this week.  Cornell took out Bingo 17-12 tonight and . . . this sucks . . . the Brown-Pantied Balderdash beat #19 Penn, 10-4, which sucks of course.

Beating Bucknell is FAR more important that beating Lehigh in lax, but still . . . .
Bogus Megapardus

So Andrusko probably gets the call vs. Rutgers, you think?

Anyhow, just looking at the season so far, maybe Mangan really does have these guys executing the fundamentals the way he should.  It's then a question of sheer skill - our guys playing against arguably superior (i.e.scholarship) talent in New Brunswick but coming away with the win because of team play, cohesiveness and raw desire.

I saw a lot of sloppiness at the Providence game - perhaps more accurately some young guys who just weren't really accustomed to the sheer speed and physicality of DI lacrosse.  They go their comeuppance at Binghamton.  Are they now ready to take their game to a new level?
Bogus Megapardus

I just realized that Wagner's first-year head coach is Matt Poskay.  I remember watching Matt play when he was a high school freshman in New Jersey.  He was an unreal talent - like a Wayne Gretzky of lacrosse.  I recall that he went on to play at Virginia.  Great to see Matt coaching DI lax now - though I used to cringe every time he took the field back then.  The kid was devastating.

Best of luck to Matt and the Seahawks the rest of the way.

So, with the 19-2 win over Wagner, Lafayette has dropped one place in the LaxPower PR.  Go figure.

Not that it will matter much over time, but that is the flaw in limiting a team's margin of victory to 10 goals for purposes of the computer ranking.   When the home field advantage is included, LC was "expected" to win by perhaps 13 goals.    But they "only" won by 10 - according to the capped margin of victory.   So for the computer, it was a somewhat disappointing win.

Margin of victory is not a factor in RPI but SOS is.  I guess we shouldn't have been playing Wagner in the first place.

Yes, Wagner definitely will not help the RPI, since the lax rpi uses almost the identical model as the basketball rpi, i.e. 25% of your own W-L pct, 50% of your opponents' W-L pct, and 25% of your opponents' opponents' W-L pct.

Unless LC has dreams of getting an at-large bid, the RPI is probably meaningless anyway.
PardsLax

Yes, but it is always a good game to get some playing time for guys that probably won't see many minutes during the season.  And some of those guys really made the most of their time last night!
