We are a baseball school now ** SEASON'S OVER

Baseball is the premiere program now. Four games this weekend at Lehigh and a postseason slot looming.
Lehigh has improved its facilities a bit.
Rain will end early and things should be alright at game time.
I don't know Kinney personally but he's a coach who fights for every edge at each stage of the game. Watching him and Leary is always entertaining.

I root for every team but 13-22  and 6-6 in the league hardly makes us a baseball school. We don't even have a winning team at home. I hope they make the playoffs and shine!! It's a little bizarre how we have to now define success.
By that standard I guess we are a Field Hockey school with a 9-10 recored and a patriot league tournament appearance ( and loss).
I remember as an undergrad Swathmore had a winning football team ( now they have no team). The faculty and pinheads at the school were worried they were building a "football factory." There were editorials in the school newspaper and some faculty were urging the administration to "deemphasize" the sport.
I won't be happy until we finally recognize winning as an objective, in the meantime go pards beat lehigh!!
I sometimes wonder why I even care!!

They now have a turf infield.

Down 6-3 bottom of the fifth. Lehigh is playing worse music than usual. I don't get the need for bad loud music at every break.
Apparently Lehigh won game one with a late HR. Missed it.
***Lehigh 10-3. Bottom of 6th. Error at SS, didn't cost a run though. Top of 7th.
Tomorrow, tomorrow and tomorrow ...

No. Maybe tomorrow. Game 1, 4-3 loss. Game 2, 10-4.
To be fair, the baseball team has as many total wins - 13 - as FB, MBB and WBB did, combined.

Always, look on the bright side of life ...

And Go Pards!

That's not exactly the bright side.

Worse, Lehigh is three outs from a four-game weekend sweep.
bethlehempard

Game 1: HC 2-0
Game 2: HC 5-1 bottom of the fifth.

Quick calculations    Baseball     If we lose this second game, we'll be 3-11 in last 14 League games.   (Women's lax outscored 13-2 in the second half v. Navy)     softball lost double-header v. Colgate

amazing year in Lafayette sports     certainly in the running for worst ever

Game 2 was a crushing loss. Lafayette scored 8 in the sixth to take a 9-8 lead, but HC tied it in the bottom of the 7th and won it with another in the bottom of the eighth. HC 10-9.
Incredible. A terrible ending for these kids after fighting back with a huge inning.
Bucknell was also swept. The Bison are up a game for the fourth spot. It's not over.

Your recap caused me to think of the MOST crushing loss or group of losses that I could remember experiencing.  As long as I've been watching Lafayette sports you'd think it would be one of those results; but, I have to go back to the Phillies collapse in '64 (6 1/2 up with 12 to play, as I recall) to really find results so unforgettably painful.  (A mite hockey game where my son's undefeated team was up 4-0 with 8 minutes left and lost 6-4 comes to mind. Hockey parents don't take losses well, as a rule.)
bethlehempard

I grew up with 1964 as the shadow over the Phillies but it's just about two years before i really knew the team. Eagles losing in the NFC title game to the Cardinals was tough.
The Lehigh interception loss was tough and the playoff game where our guard was called for a foul far from the ball, that hurt.
Just watching, me. Being on that field today had to be hell.
Go Pards!
Andy

I'm a Lafayette sports observer of the "outside" variety, consistent but small time donor, holder of season tickets in a couple sports, with virtually no knowledge of what goes on in the department or on campus in general.

That being said is there another PL member that would retain department leadership producing a LEAGUE winning % in the low 20s?  I wouldn't want to see nice guy Bruce lose his job before retirement, but how about a mere recognition of the state of the state and a "Hey, we're gonna get this thing turned around." NOTHING

Could well be that Bruce is a dynamo who's pushing the admin for change, advocating for his coaches, who demanded concessions when rehired.  I wouldnt know but would love to hear that from the cognoscente.

The original plan was fine. Move Bruce to fundraising and bring in a legitimate AD. I still don't think the true reasoning behind keeping Bruce as AD has ever been stated.

Sunday first game     error at second base (by us)--a joke hit awarded   would have been two outs, no runners on and a one run lead in bottom of last inning     game over
this team doesn't know how to finish    3-12 in last 15 League games

Please don't tell me I have to cancel my planned trip to the playoffs!

Well - in a couple hours the worst year of Lafayette sports in my memory will be officially over.

Except for the PL track championships that is. Can we finish higher than 8th there?

Not necessarily.   If they beat HC in the final game, they will likely make the playoffs.   Bucknell has completely collapsed, and LC holds the tiebreaker if the two tie for the final playoff spot.
bethlehempard

Truly hell weekend:
Game 1, 5-4 loss. LC scored 2 in the sixth, 3 in the seventh to take a 5-4 lead. The Crusaders scored twice in the bottom of the seventh.
Bucknell was crushed 15-0.
So a Lafayette win in Game 2 could still mean a playoff berth.
I remember Lehigh going to the Cross about five years ago in need of one win to make the playoffs and not getting it.
***Lafayette 4-2 HC batting in the bottom of the ninth. A win and a Bucknell loss would do it.
It's a WIN. 4-2. Now it's up to Navy to beat Bucknell.
Navy at Bicknell Game 2: 0-0 bottom of the fourth.
Navy 3-0 in the fifth. Go Mids!
Bucknell came back with 5 in the bottom half.
bethlehempard

Bucknell 5-4 going into the bottom of the 7th.

My God, with their stellar 7-13 league record and in the playoff hunt until the very end this is our second most successful team this year.
The Maroon

I'm in this now...

Bucknell 6-4, bottom of the 8th (1 out)
bethlehempard

Navy has two outs left.
What was the low point of this year? Consecutive 45-0 shutouts?
One out left ...
bethlehempard

2015-16 is just about over.
