West Point Webegone or Continued Withering?

Game thread
Pards Rule

waiting to order CBS
flyfisher

I think we have a chance to be competitive today. Good they don't throw the ball. I think we can throw the ball on them.
Pards Rule

i meant wobegone but it could be webegone
The Maroon

I'm willing to upgrade my cable package for #150 but not this fiasco.

However that means I am relying on smoke signals to keep track.

Looks like it's 7-0 Army, 8:56 to go in the first.
The Maroon

Ahh ESPN is keeping running stats.

I forgot for a minute - this isn't 1987.

Looks like we aren't even trying to run..Probably smart.
The Maroon

Mrazek 5 receptions in the first 5 minutes.

Rushing game is in the red right now
Franks Tanks

We look like a high school team out there, and this will get really ugly.  D has no chance.  Line continues to miss assignments right and left.. These are mental mistakes, or not being prepared, and not getting beat physically.
Franks Tanks

Army TD called back.  Zero assignment integrity on the option.. Ouch.
The Maroon

Two possessions, 2 easy touchdowns.
65Pard

14 zip.....they can run at will
The Maroon

We are winning the time of possession battle!
Pards Rule

Im upgrading for this game then cancelling...This is bad already...14-0 Army...2:00 left in first quarter
Pards Rule

Big gain Reed to Wadsworth...called back!!!!!!!!!!!!
WVPard

Lack of defensive speed pretty evident.  O-line sliding early giving opportunities for Army delayed blitzes.  Sometimes sliding away from a lineman.  Hope Reed doesn't get killed because of scheme confusion.
Pards Rule

Palumbo couldnt hang on
Pards Rule

Thank God end of first. How did Bucknell ONLY lose by 7 to the Black Knights last year?
65Pard

Drew is very good....too bad we have no elusive backs....we are getting blown out on the ground
Pards Rule

Great tackle huh...not...youre gonna get an Army dude by shoulders?
Franks Tanks

Pards Rule wrote:

Army is better this year, and we are that bad.  Bucknell will beat us by 2 or 3 TDs as well.  Bucknell is not super talented, but they play tough and fundamentally sound football.
Pards Rule

Boy such a basic Army play and I've seen a million times and they get an easy 10 yards
Pards Rule

TD Army!!!!!!!!!!   21-0...why dont they practice 2 pointers
Pards Rule

Give it to them anyway..just one play away from a TD anyway and we need the time?
flyfisher

I wish our o-line could go with some simple forward drive blocking on running plays. Lateral movement is not our strength. Donator said we would be day for that triple option. The optimism of youth. You can't effectively prepare for this offense in a week. I am just hoping we can stick to our assignments. We can move the ball on these guys through the air.
The Maroon

Wow - this is every bit as bad as we imagined.

21-0 early in the 2nd.

Army on pace for 775 yards of offense.
WVPard

Just reported Mrazek not in field due to "coach's decision " for a couple series.

I think I projected 750 last week...most on ground

We need more comment....WTH!!!!
The Maroon

Another 3 and out Crying or Very sad
Pards Rule

Wow..this is beyond brutal...Just a complete utter rout...Im trying to recall how we only lost by 7 to Army in 1988 when I was there...Hard to believe.
bethlehempard

I'm leaving the Petrie Court cafe at the Met. If anybody knows of an NYC bar featuring the game, please advise.
Or maybe that's a bad idea.
FBS games are a bad idea for us regardless of how good or bad we are.
And we are BAD.
-8 rushing so far.
Pards Rule

WHO SAYS ARMY CANT THROW!! TD!!  28-0
The Maroon

I watched Ryan Vena and Colgate put up 42 on us in the first half in 1999.

That remains the worst. Let's hope we don't challenge that record.

Pay close attention each week and you will understand. Not the first time. He plays with a lot of confidence and swagger. Justifiably so. Good player.

We had a much better team in 1988.  The 88 Pards would've beat the 2016 Pards by 40.

I dont get it...Does he maybe show some emotion?
flyfisher

Yep. But see the comment I added above.
The Maroon

Army now on pace to clear 800 yards.

Let's hope they start the JV in the second half.
Pards Rule

Is that our first 1st down?
65Pard

We had I think 3 on opening drive

We lost by 7 in 88 because our bread and butter turn back pass blocking was outschemed by an Army blitz package that kept a linebacker free to hit Baur.  One of the only times I can remember being outschemed.   D played great that game.  O laid an egg unfortunately.
Pards Rule

[quote="flyfisher:56663"]Yep. But see the comment I added above.[/quote

Gotcha!! We need it! Dont stifle it! Im sure there is a fine line between kicking your teammates ass and team chaos but at this point we have nothing to lose. I  have been made aware there are some folks that are too noticeably numbers standing there.

3rd and 44! I dont know if I have ever seen that! Ever
Pards Rule

4th and 44!!!!!!!!!   Colgate record safe? What was that halftime score? Final?
WVPard

3rd and 44.  Defense holds! Holy crap, a turnover on 4th and 44.
Pards Rule

WTF was that play??? The punter on a designed run???????? Pards get fumble and get OPI call play after Mrasek catch...Figures

I believe the final was 42-14.

The game was significant in that it brought on the Harry Armstrong era!

And Sir Harry almost upset Lehigh in final game that year in Russo's last game..And then what happened to Sir Harry..Army intercepts in end zone
bethlehempard

Yes once I saw it was sold out I was able to avoid pondering taking a train up there. I wound up stuck in the city  anyway.
If we're going to get destroyed at least keep it in FCS. We have no business taking these games.
Except that of course, the currency of the realm is, currency.

They Were Warned!

Honda will adapt. Plus he has 3 more years. We have a good freshman class as well. He has a chance to improve. The older kids don't have much to look forward. They have lived this nightmare.

Gotta give credit to the coaches last year for the recruiting class they got. Signing these kids off a 1-10'season was remarkable. However most of those kids committed before the end of the season. We should learn a lot with this year's upcoming class. That will be tough recruiting.

How much do we pocket? Im sure Army didnt send a chartered plane for us like NDSU in 2011!

We do have business taking these games, but not unless we are willing to wipe the slate clean with the staff.  Yale beat Army.  Fordham beat Army.  Bucknell lost to Army by 7 last year.

Coulda been 35-14 at the half. Coulda been a game. Coulda been a contender.
Pards Rule

Seeing the halftime Army runoff to locker room, the fall foliage up there seems to be about the same here..very limited!

YUGGGGEEE opportunity flushed...yet again!!!

We are keeping our streak of ineptitude after turn overs alive. This was the third turnover after a turnover in 7 games. I'm beginning to think it's coached that way.
Pards Rule

Thank God I have the Eagles this year!
flyfisher

As to wh we played this game, I think it's obvious and you guys know. Good money, low expenses for travel, alumni like it, local, game for northeast alumni, players love it, and some exposure for the school. In my opinion if we are going to play a FBS team then Army is perfect. Plus, gotta use the football team to finance other areas of the college and athletic department.

Not a bad schedule when it was made a few years ago. I mean Bucknell only lost by 7 last year and I trust AD didnt know how bad things would get in a few years. They were trusting on a upturn to make this at least a Bison showing.
Pards Rule

RIP Brandon Jackson Army player who died in car crash on Sept 11 this year - my birthday.

Jackson was being recruited by Lafayette College in Pennsylvania during high school, but when the coach recruiting him, John Loose, was hired by Army head coach Jeff Monken, the opportunity to play for the Black Knights became a reality.

We aren't playing Ohio State.  Army is a prefectly acceptable opponent, and we should be competitive with them in many years. However the fact is our team isn't even competitive with most of the FCS at the moment, and much of our league.  Fordham is maybe a top 40 team and they crushed us. Lehigh will crush us.  The problem isn't that we are playing Army, the problem is that the team was allowed to get this bad without someone stepping in sooner.
Bogus Megapardus

Perhaps Lafayette demoted football to Club status without telling anybody. Perhaps the academe has designated Fisher Field as a "safe space" where no physical contact is permitted. I dunno. Whatever it is, it's clearly over.

I hope Colgate, Lehigh and Holy Cross are cackling in hysterics over this bottomless chasm of ineptitude. I hope the parents of all our recruits are watching this and will choose to send their sons elsewhere. I hope all the recruits are watching and will flood Twitter with tales of Lafayette's football ineptitude. I hope the Patriot League seriously rethinks Lafayette's suitability for continued membership.

If we want football, the house has to be swept clean down to the basement. It starts at the top.

Frank Tavani, please resign now. I mean TODAY. Bruce McCutcheon, as soon as you accept Tavani's resignation, please submit yours. I'm sure both of you will meander on enjoyably with your tenure and your pensions.

But please leave right now.

Needless to say there will be many other calls for the same. I'm going to be rather animated and aggressive about this and I plan to ruffle a few feathers on the hill with some embarrassing and rather public parody for which I will be solely responsible and bear all costs. But allow me to warn folks in Markle that it will be professionally done and YOU WILL SEE IT EVERY DAY.

So to Frank, Bruce and the rest of the Comfortably Numb on the Hill - this sucks, you know it, and you did nothing to fix it. Eff You. All of you. You've embarrassed all of us for years. It's time for me to embarrass you.

TD Army...42-7...spread achieved
The Maroon

I think we're still in the negative in term of rushing yards.

Look I will NEVER say anything bad about an individual player so I don't want to get drawn into a pissing match - but we have to consider the idea that we're getting the same level of recruits as our peer schools and the only problem is our scheme might be kind of absurd.

The Pards simply look soft today.   Maybe the Army athletes are that superior, but I kind of doubt that.

Combination of things, but recruiting is one of the better aspects.  Scheme, player development and overall culture of the program is all sub par.  Even if we recruited well, and I think we do ok, all other aspects cannot be overcome.
65Pard

Another no gain run, when we know we complete most passes and we know we cannot run.....no we can't set up the pass with the run, so why try?....it's the 20th Century and the game has changed....Good coaches design schemes around their strengths.
