What a Horrendous Statline!

Was waiting for someone who caught the action live to give some perspective on the beatdown in DC over the weekend.

Looking at them going in it looked like they were exceptionally good at forcing turnovers and pretty good at taking care of the ball. They did both on steroids against us.

Like I said - I was hoping someone who isn't relegated to reading stats to add some input - but I'll just note...

We had um...32 turnovers Saturday. The other six teams in the league averaged 20.

We forced 7 TO's, the field forced 13/game.

They had 19 steals to our two. eke.

They took 74 shots - that's one hell of a day considering we won on the boards and had more second-chance points than they did.

No crime losing to the league's best team on the road. No crime getting schooled for that matter - but it's clear that we have a long way to go - to say the least - to contend. We can take some solace in that Strack is graduating - but plenty of Eagles return.

Like Andy has said "In Nolan We Trust" and I do trust her. My concern was the way the team looked against Lehigh - very frustrated and impatient with themselves and others. Some of the veterans - Downey in particular - were trying to keep a level head and provide some leadership - but this team has an odd feel to it. I can't describe it - and again I'll leave it for someone who has been able to see them more often to opine.

Don't know why Macklin isn't getting more time on the Dianne Nolan line changes. She seemed solid all around - but...again - I haven't seen enough.

Can't we at least try to get Fahan and Manning some open looks from outside?

I very much believe we have the talent to win 4 of the 7 going through round 2. 12 wins would be - believe it or not - a very solid season for this point in the program. I just hope the wheels aren't coming off.  It's one thing the "Prophet of Doom" Carney to announce we aren't making progress - it's troubling if the girls are buying into it.

Prophet of Doom?  Really?  A bit harsh, don't you think?  I'm pretty certain that I was merely expressing my disappointment.  I was actually under the impression that this program had turned the corner and not just made some imperceptible minor progress.  In my naivete I actually had some idea that with Fiacco and Homan this team had become to the women's inside game what Muscala and Bucknell is on the men's side.  In my unkempt and inadequate mind it appeared that all we needed was some recruiting for the perimeter and we'd have a real team - a contender as Brando once said.  Then came that incredible beat down (your term) from those two Holy Cross fireplugs.  So much for Queens of the Paint.   And now this.  I think that a line from an earlier post of mine that you objected to bears repeating,

Back to the drawing board.

Don't get your knickers in a knot.  This is, after all, Lafayette, and losing is what we do best.

I have probably exposed how little I know about basketball much less women's ball. I was on that bandwagon too......there is more work to do!!,,
I still believe in the long run we are going to be fine!

Hope you're right Lafalum.  I have high hopes for the women's program under Coach Nolan.  I think she knows what she is doing.  Our team is slow, shoots poorly and doesn't handle the ball well.  All those things can be fixed.
