Who will win the tournament?

It could be anybody including us but if I had to bet, I would take Lehigh based on OOC wins and Kempton.
If it's not us, generally, I would prefer any team to the interlopers: American, Loyola and Boston.
On the women's side, probably American or Lehigh will prevail.

Picture, if you will ...
We win the last four regular-season games. We win two in the tournament.
Suddenly we have a 20-12 season.
Maybe we even find a way to the post-season (not the CBI or other pay-to-play deals).
The apologists push back, the naysayers pipe down.
Not likely but "it could happen." I hope we get some breaks.
If we don't at least make some noise in the PL tournament something has to give. A new coach or a succession plan or some clarity on FOH's tenure.
And I do say that with respect and gratitude. He has brought some great moments and recruited some great players and is by all accounts a humble and decent man and a great scholar of the game.

1. I agree that the tournament is wide open - more than at any point in almost 20 years. I think there are 8 teams, including LC, who could win it if they get hot.

2.  No PL team has any chance of an NIT bid this year - except for the automatic one for the #1 seed.   For everyone else, it's win the  PL tournament and go to the NCAA - or else possibly get a pay-for-play bid.  But no NIT.

3. I wouldn't count out Army on the women's side. They are 1 game out of first, were an almost unanimous preseason pick, and have the league's best player.

Well, they should be worried, they still have to play Lafayette:)

With four games left and four behind Bucknell, we are already out of the running -- except mathematically -- for the regular season.
So it is NCAA or bust!
Win two of the last four and a tournament game, that's a 17-15 year. Not bad.
Imagining next year's starting five: four guards?

Not bad, but, it should have been a 20 win regular season. Should have been.
Agreed, looking down that bench......?????

I am not close to the basketball team like most of you but I thought they were having a pretty good year. In fact we should easily have a winning season. Are you suggesting we change coaches on one of the only teams we have with a winning record? I don't think we had a team with a winning record all fall season. Fire this guy? Heck, he'll probably be knighted. Seriously, I thought he was doing pretty well, especially by LC standards.

Fair points by Fly.  But the winning record is in serious jeopardy.

I like FOH, I really do. I like the style of play and his philosopy. (if you are open, you shoot, not pass it up because there is still too much time left on the shot clock) The program is clean, our guys don't get in trouble, and they graduate.
Our coach is the winningest in school and Patriot League history, but, also has a sub .500 overall record.
Why do we seem to run out of steam by the end of the season? It seems to happen, every year. Maybe there is too much emphasis on winning the PL tournament?
I don't know what else to say?

Not bad! We bombed in PL play! That's a letdown! Sometimes 17-15 is a surprise season but with this group and our expectations it's a huge letdown.

Fly - Fran is now the gold standard at LC athletics... which is sad... mediocre seasons at best until FT proves he can get football's act together

I like FOH too but he's just not getting done more often than not.  We stick with the system and if we are missing a guy we are dead meat.

As I've said consistently you can't win without a defense and our's is too slow and too soft around the rim. Other teams get into the lane too easily and destroy us on the boards. We have three big bodies on the bench none of whom ever sees the light of day. I would give up some offense to have a tougher crew under the basket. That's my view.

If the Basketballl teams don't have a winning season it will probably mean there will have been NO LAFAYETTE  TEAM WITH A WINNING RECORD in two years, because this spring doesn't look like it will turn things around..

But the AD, in his signing day interview, pointed to the "real upbeat atmosphere on campus" and to "lots of real positive things going on."  He talked about the grad rate, the "fabulous people" and the "outstanding students." What he didnt talk about were championships and winning. He pointed out that "football is secondary to education."  Aren't there enough layers of administrators and faculty to point that out. How about talking about competition and being competitive on the field?  He's a real nice man, but a shameless shill for the admin.

Wasn't there some comment about every athlete winning a championship during their four years at Lafayette?
