Women's Lacrosse...What the hell?

There's only one senior on the roster and a lot of frosh getting a lot of minutes...A year ago coch Kathy seemed to have things headed in the right direction. That's the good news.

The bad news is we stink. Even the games where the final scores are close aren't nearly as positive when you look at the stat sheet. Unfortunately spring has been hell and I haven't made it out to see the team yet--I'm definitely hoping to catch the American game next weekend as this is one of my favorite sports...but in the meantime...what's the deal? Are we still feeling the repurcussions of all those darn coaching changes? Is it a skill thing or a speed thing? Are more schools giving Lacrosse scholarships now? I mean we are having one miserable season? Anyone got some light to shed on this? Bueller?

As a follower of the program I think you can look at a couple things:

1. we are giving up 15 goals a game - the defense lost the goalkeeper and an all-league defender (Farrell Sharkey), we are starting a freshman in goal this year
2. the offense lost two of its four 30 goal scorers (Kaleigh Mountain and Samantha Ziegler), Maddy Booth and Kristin Ruminski also scored 30 goals and are back but also led the team in assists, Booth led the nation with 47 assists and needs to be surrounded by finishers
3. bad luck - last year we were 3-1 in games decided by two goals, this year we are 0-3 with another decided by three goals

anything else from anybody else? it's definitely disappointing but with nearly everybody back next year as well and hopefully better goalkeeping, I anticipate this is a one-year slide and Kathy will continue to build a winning program.

I don't see anything redeeming here. Losing to Monmouth and giving up 21 goals is unforgivable. This team does not pick up ground balls, refuses to play any defense and the goalkeeping??
Two or three years into a program this is an embarrassment. My sense is that this group, for whatever reason, is going through the motions. Maddie Booth has been been trying to get her teammates fired up, but its not happening. This coach has lost this team. They have a loooooong way to correct this thing. There is no fire or pride there!!!

Maddy Booth went through a historic season last year, and women's lacrosse was a coin flip away from the Patriot League tournament, without anybody mentioning it on the old board. I guess it's a lot easier to come in and throw stones when things aren't going well though.

Maddy Boooth is a competitor but I'm sorry I see nothing else. I don't even see some basic skills. Getting 21 goals scored on you by Monmouth is not progress. Almost making the PL tournament is not progress. At the the Lehigh game even Booth was on her teammates. That's just the way it looks to me. Ever since the "hazing" incident this team has not been able to do it.
It looks to me like they are just going through the motions. If I get them angry fine prove me wrong. But this team is headed for a perfect season...all losses... and I don't see the effort with exception of a few players.

so if the coin had landed heads, or tails, or whatever method they used to break the three-way tie and we made the PL tournament (a year after going 1-14, btw) would that have been progress? Rolling Eyes

It was still a losing season (7-9) with an early season win over Bucknell and a one goal win over Lehigh. They did have a quality win over Villanova in 2 OT's. The other wins were not against our normal opponents. Again being in a position to just get into the PL tournament and following that with a probable no win season looks like last season was an abberation.
Believe me it pains me to watch what's going on in the field but I don't see skill or effort there this year. Yes they are young (only one senior) yes they do not have goalkeeping (3 freshman), but what bothers me is lack of clean passing, lack of hustle in getting ground balls, I could go on. This team has a long way to go to be competitive, which means to be a challenger for the PL title and not let in 21 goals with a lower tier Div 1 team.
I hope they can be better...but not this year!!

Has anyone checked the record of our lacrosse teams lately? Are we really this bad? Shocked

The women are DEFINITELY that bad.

I've been a big critic of the men's program over the years but at least the men are losing to stiffer competition (although a home loss to Holy Cross is pretty sad stuff, they are funded worse than we are).

The women's team stinks. Longwood at home, Sacred Heart at home, embarassed by Lehigh at home, CCSU at home--these are bad teams, teams that are mediocre are blowing us out. It's as bad as I've ever seen this program by a mile.
