piece o' cake we'll go through that bracket like a knife through butter

Umm . . . depends upon the sharpness of the knife and the density of the butter, I think.

40 Million people will be filling out brackets, it is estimated. All will have to predict Lafayette's success. Will anybody card the Pards?

Allison and Bruce maybe

Oh hell, I'll pick 'em. Why not? My office has six people (plus 4 part-timers) and I'm the boss, so I hereby decree that our bracket is gonna have Lafayette pre-filled over 'Nova for everyone.

We got close:

Bobby Smith of Villanova, center, tries to score between Lafayette defenders in the first half Tuesday.

Nov. 23, 1999

VILLANOVA, Pa. (AP) - Malik Allen scored 20 points and Bobby Smith hit two crucial free throws with 13 seconds remaining as Villanova held off Lafayette, 74-70, Tuesday night in the season-opener for the Wildcats.

Brian Lynch added 20 points for Villanova, while Brian Ehlers had 18 points and Tyson Whitfield 15 for the Leopards (1-1).

Villanova took its biggest lead, 59-44, with 8:18 to play in the game, but Lafayette then ran off 12 straight points capped by a 3-point shot by Whitfield to close to 59-56 at the 5:15 mark.

A layup by Smith gave the Wildcats a 69-63 edge with 1:52 remaining, but Mick Kuberka hit a 3-pointer, and Ehlers made two free throws to cut the Villanova lead to 69-68 with 48 seconds to go.

However, Allen shot a 3-pointer 22 seconds later, and after Stefan Ciosici made a layup, Smith made his two important foul shots.

The Leopards led 21-14 midway through the first half, but then went scoreless for 5:51 while Villanova went on an 11-point spurt ending with a 3-point play by Allen.

The Wildcats held the lead until a slam dunk by Frank Barr one second before halftime made it 32-32.

Lafayette, who made 13 of 13 free throws in the second half, had 21 turnovers in the game, but only one in the last 13 minutes.

The loss dampened a homecoming of sorts for Leopards Coach Fran O'Hanlon, a Villanova grad who captained the 1970 Wildcat team.

1.  Spend the week setting off fire alarms in Villanova's hotel at all hours of the night.
2.  Send an e-mail to Jay Wright saying the game starts at 9:00.
3.  Score more points than Villanova.

Very Happy

Ha love the board!

Have not paid attention to Nova, but here are some thoughts:

1) Shoot the lights out
2) Lindner must control the flow
3) Aggressive, maybe even reckless D
4) Pray it comes down to a last shot
5) Believe, no fear, have fun!  Seems silly but it is really important. Callipari emphasizes this with his 34-0 NBA team.

Nova has quick guards if I recall last years game.

Hampton about to beat Manhattan in the PIG - in which we were fortunate not to play.

Indeed. The embarrassment game. You're in but not yet. Still not nearly as bad as the field hockey's luck. That was ridiculous.

At a glance we are 4-3 versus tournament teams.
NCAA 1-2. Win-Robert Morris (PIG), L-WVU, Kansas
CIT 1-0. Win over NJIT.
NIT 2-1. Bucknell, Bucknell, Bucknell.
No CBI opponents?
Odd that Yale didn't get an NIT shot.
Will review and correct if necessary.
