Coach Grentz had a tall blond and her family on campus this weekend. What can you tell us about her Ransom Stottard?

That very well could have been our Canadian freshman - I think she is taking a summer class.

I saw the Canadian girl last year on her visit. She is much bigger than 6", I would say at least 6'5". It's been awhile but I think her hair is darker and a much bigger body. This girl was about 6'. I was hoping she was a recruit for next year, thought you were the guy to know as you seem to be close to the program.

Can alums get an individualized "Summer Workout" program too?  Some of us need one . . .  Cool

They were too ambitious for me.  I modified down. Today, do what we can and pass the Ibuprofen.

Awesome that freshmen can come in early for a class and workout with teammates. Great luck to Angela as she starts out.

She's not the girl Grentz had with her in Giacomos. May be a 2016 possible recruit.

Giacomos is my favorite place to go to for lunch! Glad to see Coach Grentz is showing off the Easton / Lafayette community to our recruits.

It seems like the combination of scholarships and the PL becoming much stronger in women's basketball has really expanded recruiting horizons.   Bucknell also has a recruit from Iowa entering this year - along with one from California.   And the 2016 class includes one from Florida and one from Arkansas.     It would have been rare a few years ago to see recruits from that far away.

Good thought by Bison.  Agree that expanding the recruiting horizons results from athletic scholarships and overall PL league improvement.  It makes sense that recruiters offering athletic scholies have an advantage
over those who don't.  (Ivies excepted?)

Reasonable to assume Coach G will have more national contacts than say our hire from Muhlenberg.   At LC geographic diversity of recruiting in women's hoops hasn't really translated to an increase in quality - has it?  Our best - VVDV (pre-schol), Homan, Keisha - were from the local area, Keisha from MD.

Comparing the pre-schol 05'06' roster to the post-schols does show much greater geographic diversity as 137 points out, but it's not a brand new thing here.  The 2010 roster had 3 players from Cali and 1 each from Wisc, Texas, Mich, VA.  Just hasn't done much for the win total.

I think in recent years since the other schools have had scholarships as well we have done well to be at least competitive in the league. But I go back to our entire athletic program and we have not been dominant in the last two or three years in anything! We have had flashes but don't seem to be able to sustain it. I'm not sure why but it does go beyond just scholarships, but our entire approach. Just speculating.

Unfortunately, as far as women's bball is concerned, this has not been the case.  Yes, the women won 8 PL games this year (8-10), their highest total in at least 15 years. However, prior to that, the highest total were the 2006 (5) and 2007 (6) seasons - teams led by non-scholarship players, VVDV, Spicer, Garner. Since then 2-12, 4-10, 4-10, 2-12, 4-10 and 8-10.

The 2-12 08'-'09 team did win 2 playoff games (Spicer, Garner).

You make a good point, although LC was actually 6-12 this year.   The 8-10 was the previous year.    Both of those records were helped by the addition of Loyola and Boston to the league, since they both have weak women's programs - the two worst in the league since they joined.    To make the records apples-to-apples, the record for the two most recent years against the seven traditional PL opponents was 3-11 this year and 5-9 last year.     That makes the most recent years look like:

3-11  (2014-15)
5-9
4-10
2-12
4-10
4-10
2-12   (2008-09)

Definitely a lot of room for improvement.

Good post, 137.

First scholarship class admitted in spring 2006, but first full cycle recruiting class was the next year and it had some talent - Keisha, Virgin, Jackson.

In the 8 seasons (most played w/out scholarships in a scholarship league) from 2000-2007, the Leopards averaged 3 PL wins per season. (24/eight)

In the past 7 seasons, 3.4 PL wins per season. (subtracting the wins over the expansion teams per 137's post). (24/7)

This really puts the Nolan years in perspective. (22/6 3.6)

Yada yada.  Pretty simple - we need better players.  If our "name" coaching staff can't get them, they are much ado about nothing.  The 2017-2018 season should be the target.  If we don't show signs of emerging from this toilet by then, ...
