Interesting description. Pretty close to a recruiting violation. A coach came in out of season and watched a player perform by themselves. Really could be considered a tryout.

I am not as current on the rules as I used to be, but coaches can come a watch a practice on campus. They cannot hold a tryout. The grey area here would be the kid could say he often kicks in the morning and PSU just happened to be there and watched him. Its on campus, during a valid recruiting period.

The best example I can give, is if the kid did an OV, they cannot ask him to kick, anymore than they could have asked Major Jordan to jump in with the LBs for practice

That's a great point, DAD.  Evaluations are supposed to take place during
(a) Regularly scheduled high school, preparatory school and two-year college contests and practices;.....a personal tryout is not allowed.

"Coach Huff came down, it might have been a Tuesday, 6:30 in the morning. We opened up the stadium, ground was frozen, balls were hard...///  Sounds like a personal tryout to me.

I got a kick out of this, as he's now added that the coaching change made a difference:

The kicker, who hasn't declared his major yet, made the decision to become a Nittany Lion last Monday. He said Lafayette's coaching change from Frank Tavani to John Garrett did play a part in his decision.

"It did have a little effect. I was kind of hesitant. I didn't meet the special teams coach. So I didn't really know what I was getting into," Landis said.///

What he was getting into with a new STs coach? You're a kicker. Not like he's going to be affected by some kind of change in offensive philosophy. But, whatever.   We'll get someone better next year.

My impressions of Emmaus coaches are they are pretty full of themselves.

The Emmaus staff ought to know better than to try to stuff a lame excuse into a kid's mouth. It doesn't help the kid, and it just makes Emmaus look bad.

Uh-huh. And he knew Penn State's Huff *so* much better, right?

Kouyate to Colgate. Hopefully down the road a piece we win more of these wars.  They signed stud Daramy last year in March and they get this guy after announcing a class of 19. Money no object up there, I guess.  Want to see admin support, look north.

He didn't actually announce his commitment. He posted the photo montage with Coach JG, saying: "I've been blessed with a great opportunity @ Lafayette(D1-AA)"

However, his school district listed him as a "signee:"

I'm guessing we're done. Douglas has been accepted at Oregon for track, apparently.

For a track star, a chance to run at Oregon might be too much to pass up for anything.

Seems Douglas is heading to Oregon but not as an athlete.  See twitter exchange between Douglas and P. Reinhard.  The "opportunity" at LC may have been merely a roster spot.  Hard to understand his school district reporting him as a "signee."

Wow 4 quarterbacks in this class....maybe Coach Garrett doesn't like what he has with the leftovers? Nice highlights on this recruit.

Really nice late addition, thanks for the find, LCLF! Love the throwing motion and the arm strength. Dual threat. Offers from several Ivy. 2* rating from rivals, scout, 247 composite. 247's own rating is 3*, higher than they rated Kouyate at his position. And we all love that league out there, lots of talent. Wonder if Sean was here yesterday? Great to have him joining the competition at QB.
