That would be a horrible decision. Things are moving in the right direction and the boys that I know like the coaches. They are tough, but that is what is required. Coaches and players had a great game Saturday.

Double shame since he is playing in a league that has recent national champions and final four participants in it. He is doing it with no scholarships and little support from the AD or the school.

they are good guys but look at BU they also play in the Patriot league...my son is a junior and Ski recruited him but i watched all 3 scrimmages ...if we can't beat 3 weak teams how can we beat anybody in the PL? We have no defense and a non existent midfield...Ski needs to fix that

I'm not a follower of Lax. But I find it hard to believe your comment regarding the AD. Here's why:

You made the following comments:
7/21/13 - I hear we are getting an All-American transfer
8/20/13 - I think we have 6 scholarships
4/12/14 - It's not Ski
3/14/15 - The team has given up on Rogalski

I thought LC added lax scholarships a couple of years ago.

If there are scholarships for men's lacrosse it may be only one or two. Women's lax is fully funded!!

If women's LAX is fully funded, we should expect some dramatic improvement.

The program has added one scholarship per year for last three years, and will continue to add into the 2016/2017 season, and beyond.  Remember, men's  lacrosse scholarship funding is a completely different animal from other NCAA sports.  A school can elect to fund up to 12.6 scholarships in a "fully" funded program.

Not that different from other non counter sports. FH is 12 soccer is the same and the scholarships can be partials as a non counter. The problem is title ix and imbalance because of football with potentially 60 men's scholarships. I believe they are at or will be at 57 or 58. They are allowed 60 as per PL rules I understand.

My son is a Lafayette commit still in high school so I need some insight from those of you who are alums.  How can the AD be focused on potentially changing out the rebuilding lacrosse program that will only have it's full 4 years of recruits on the field together for the first time in 2017, with less than full scholarship funding, while the football program is in its 6th losing season, the last one being 1-10??  Is the football HC, with nearly full scholarship funding (58-60), who has been there for 16 seasons, getting as much scrutiny?

While working with only incremental scholarship $, the improvement last season by Coach Ski and his staff was clear in the second half with 1 goal losses (or near wins) to Lehigh and Bucknell.   When you look at the 2015-2018 HS grad year recruiting classes, the clubs/high schools that Lafayette is now drawing from given the added scholarship $ and program improvement is dramatically different.   Every player in my son's recruiting class has talked about Ski being the reason they chose Lafayette over other schools.  My son was told by other other college coaches that if he committed to Lafayette they would tell him how to decommit and join their class.  At 16, he is perceptive and can tell the sleaze factor is high in the recruiting game but Ski has a reputation among these players as a man of his word.

I hope the AD shows patience with this rebuilding, particularly if they get beyond the 4 wins from last year.  BU was much more aggressive in adding scholarship $ ahead of Lafayette and I believe they are close to fully funded.  They did OK last season but lost 6 straight at the end so aren't exactly the blueprint for a rebuild.   Slow and steady....

I would hate for all of the work done so far to be squandered by a short-sighted, win now or you're fired mentality this season.  If there is any way to share that message please advise.

I wouldn't worry. Firing of a coach during an incomplete building process would be VERY atypical of Lafayette, especially given our league prominence in the sport.  I can tell you he is well liked within the school, colleagues, players and administration.

I hope you're right, Lafalum.  My observations is that Rogalski runs some very creative offensive schemes.  It's up to him to recruit players that can run those schemes.  The defense has improved by leaps and bounds.

I'd like to see Rogalski given a fairly long leash.

Why in God's name, in a year where dismal is a kind adjective to describe the state of the department, would coach Ski be on the chopping block? His squad last year was one of the better stories of the year and he's clearly got things going in the right direction.

I can't buy this one.

All of  your points are salient - coach Ski is safe for a while.

I agree, Maroon. Those kids are out there working their tails off for Rogalski. The schemes are sound and the execution is improving, as is the level of talent.

Yeah, they're making some pointless mistakes and they're turning it over way too much. But a lot of that has to do with the speed of the DI game to which the young kids are not yet accustomed. It will improve.

The main thing I see, overall (compared to the Mangan years) is that the guys look like they know what they're doing. Nobody is going to outsmart them and at long last, everybody looks to be in proper position* throughout the game.

It's now down to focus and better execution, which they can control.

* Except after faceoffs. I think they're so unaccustomed to winning faceoffs at the rate they're now doing that the FO Mid line can't seem to get in sync for a scoring opportunity without looking over their shoulders to yield to the O Mids. Again this is just a matter of confidence and execution.

Ski might be a nice guy but its really about wins and losses...you can't come in last every year in the Patriot league ...someone has to be accountable

You do realize the state of the program when he took over? You do realize he's getting one scholarship/year and is trying to completely overhaul a culture of losing that spans decades with the exception of our 6 week run in 2010?  You do realize that Men's Lacrosse is arguably the strongest sport the Patriot League has?

Most importantly - You do realize that our current league winning percentage for all sports is an abysmal 21% this year. I won't even get into how we're doing in sports like track, cross country and swimming.

And to send the message we're going to go after coach Rogalski?

Puhleeze. That would be asinine. I'm not going to knock other coaches - but I think we can all name more than one who should (and won't) get the ax before he does.

I'm not the most, or the second-most knowledgeable lacrosse guy on this board but I watch these guys when I can and read the commentary (And sometimes the color announcers on the PL webcasts are pretty good) - I see a guy who worked through an inevitable learning curve jumping up from D3, a guy who is getting his kids in place. A guy who is willing to stand by principle and discipline good players to send the message that the program means something.

We aren't a lacrosse dynasty that's fallen on hard times. We're a program with - to my knowledge - ONE winning season and ONE .500 season over the past 25 years (someone can check on that but I don't think I'm far off).  Ever since I've heard of Lafayette lacrosse it's been the same mantra: "We should be good, we're in a great area, the sport demographics fit the school demographics, blah blah blah" - and we have NOT been good because the school has NOT made this sport a priority. I don't see any evidence that coach Rogalski is getting any more help than coach Lawson or coach Mangan. One scholarship/year?

This is one of the few programs I think is actually on the upswing. There's no reason to even consider a change imho.

^^^ Couldn't have said it better myself.

As a Marylander, it has always pained me that Lafayette has struggled so much in lacrosse (especially coming from a high school that has won multiple state championships . . . not that I had anything to do with it).  It is good to see that the program seems to be headed in the right direction.  We just have to be patient because the competition in the PL is pretty good.
