Garrett will have a lot less to work with.

Seriously? I do not wish to offend anyone, but if you watched that game (I was there, and I watched the tape) the difference in the two teams was not a gaping chasm. It was primarily a QB with a great arm, and the ability to escape, schemes on the line, and most important, heart. After the first 2 turnovers, the fight left the 'Pards in a hurry. That's what happens when you have 3 wins in 2 seasons and a HC who is mailing it in.

As Garrett said, we have to restore the confidence in the team.

This team has the talent to win, no doubt in my mind. It will be interesting to see how the assistant coaching staff shakes out. He is interviewing next week and expects to have the bulk of the staff in place by early January. The players should be ready to work once the semester starts. Exciting times in Pardsville.

I talked with a former coach today who is intimately familiar with Lafayette football and the current college administration.

I asked him what his first impression(s) were regarding Coach Garrett, and whether he is the right fit for the Pards right now. He also recognizes clearly the type of student-athlete that Lafayette recruits. His observations were pointed, if not outright bright regarding Lafayette football and the tremendous support for the program. Most importantly, he praised the college, and Alison Byerly for going outside the box to hire Garrett. In his opinion, which I share, his recent experience in the CAA recruiting and coaching scholarship players placed him a step ahead of a large field of candidates. He outlined the proximity of College Hill to NYC, and the inherent advantage that gives Garrett in recruiting.

I trust my acquaintances' football acumen, and expect Coach Garrett to hit the ground running in recruiting right off the I-78 roadway, or has he said, "within an eight to ten hour drive" from Easton.

Thanks for passing on the positive info, pf. Wonderful job by Pres. Byerly and those alums who opened her eyes to the problems in the dept.

Re"...those alums who opened her eyes,,,,,,"  It is entirely possible that Alison was tired of hearing it and finally took action.  It is not as if it hasn't been pointed out to here ever since she accepted the job.   I also think the poor crowd and poor showing vs. Lehigh were factors.

Many stopped giving or cut their giving WAY BACK. Maroon club giving is significantly lower since the 150th year and our MBB NCAA appearance. ( And there has been a parade of Societe level donors at her office door. ) She is always well prepared and does her research before any alumni formal encounter. I also note the fraternity issue has been put to bed.

Excellent hire in my opinion. Maybe about the best we could hope for. Glad they looked outside tradional channels.

On the fraternity thing, they did let Chi Phi come back. The odd part about that which several people noticed is this is after all but one athlete has left their ranks.

According to AGS, Elon's head coach just quit. That could mean that Damian Wroblewski might be looking for an assistant coaching position. Horrible timing on the part of the Elon coach.

Elon is a mess, and shouldn't be. The right coach could do something there. Nice facilities, pretty good education, nice area though a small town. They are in a big boy conference which makes it tough but a better fit for the northern clientele they are trying to attract.

Tough to get too excited knowing Bruce and Fran are still tolerated. Let's get rid of all the dead wood. All of it.

I think you will get your wish on Bruce sooner than you think. He is fed up.

Agree there.  Fran remains a really good teacher of the game, but he just isn't getting the players.  We are ridiculously unathletic, and get destroyed anytime we play even a middling mid major team.  Fran is 68 years old and while the last 2 years haven't been as bad as football, but it's getting close.  Can the college afford to fire Fran too this year?  If so I think we see another "retirement" this year.

10 hour drive radius from Fisher Field (averaging 55 mph):

I'm not sure if the circle or the darker blue area is supposed to be the radius. However, I'm pretty sure the Norfolk/Virginia Beach/Chesapeake area is well under eight hours if you take U.S 13 down the Delmarva peninsula and drive over/through the bridge/tunnel. At the moment, it appears to be just outside the darker blue area.

That would be a fertile area from which to draw.  I assume Coach Garrett made a few connections there during his brief stay at Richmond.

If you go to the LC football website, Garret is now the only listed coach. Heard that Garret is interviewing Frank's assistances, but unsure if anyone will be retained. Rumor has it that the OC is definitely on the way out and deservedly so IMO.

Coach Garrett said at his first press conference that he would have a big role in the offense, so it's understandable that he wouldn't want to risk the possibility of having the former OC in any role that might end in criticism of the new program. Coach Garrett needs people who are all-in with his approach.

The Lafayette rushing offense: Five yards deep, three seconds late. No yards.
Why would anybody want to keep that?
Only in this Bizarro World of Lafayette Sports would 0.8 rushing yards per carry and 15-rebound deficits be debated.
The teams stink. The more change the better.
Go Garrett! Burn down the dam. house!

I seriously doubt he will keep our previous coordinators, Link and Fein. Those positions are your right hand guys. I suspect he will want his own deciples. I don't know the offensive coaches well but I hope Dell and McFadden get a look. Either way, they will be fine.

Perhaps logistics (whatever that means) blocked this, but the appointment of Coach Garrett could have been followed quickly by a season-ticket sale. I plan to buy them again after a year off, I am sure others will return or start. There is excitement again after two dreary years. Exploit it. Find a way to do something with urgency. Surprise us.
Even if tickets don't arrive soon or games are in flux, do it. Strike now.

I'm hoping that Garrett's choices for his assistants, plus a star recruit or two, will pique some interest as well.

The coordinators are also your biggest $$ guys. So if you keep someone already here you probably hamstring yourself getting the guys you want. Garrett is bringing his own system and has his own coaching tree to pull from. I think Fly is right, if he keeps anyone it will be Dell or McFadden. Both have great rapports with the players, both are on D. But he also wouldn't want to name that until he hires his DC. You don't want to push someone on the new guy you hire if it isn't a good fit.

Initially I was worried about these men and their families, but I have heard that the college is doing right and making them whole. Either way they will be alright.

I didn't have cable or internet for 2 days while the whole system in my house was upgraded. So out of desperation for entertainment I got out my old VCR and watched some video tapes from 2011. The team was the same then as this past season with critical penalties , last minute defensive lapses, unforced mental errors, turnovers ,and general football failures. One game I watched was the 2011 Holy Cross game where a 93 yard fourth quarter drive yielded the winning TD to Holy Cross with 23 seconds left. Two missed field goals and a backwards march from the Holy Cross 10 yard line cost Lafayette more than enough points to win.We opened the year 1-4 beat Yale when they botched an onsides kick. Then we beat Colgate in OT but lost to HC.I think we also lost to Bucknell but I don't know if that was a year we lost to Georgetown but we definitely lost to Lehigh which was League champion.FT was actively engaged in the game and not in his flacid recent malaise. We also beat Fordham that year.Andrew Shoop was the QB having succeeded Ryan (?) O'Neill during the season and sharing some game duties with him.Nevertheless the play was much better than the past two years but still mediocre with flashes of competency-For example the receivers were really good. Marc Ross was a  sophomore.Bennett was a senior but injured and not playig. Greg Stripe must have been a freshman or sophomore. The offensive line was pretty good.Chariolanzo was. a frosh.S was Brad Borman

Mickey and Art are both officially out as well as a GA (not sure which one). Others all interviewed and are waiting. Clayton does have some Princeton connections to Garrett so he may not be an outright no
