I am hearing from some very strong sources Mickey (4 and 1) Fein is being pushed as Tavani's successor. The applicant pool, from the same sources, say is extraordinary, with many of those mentioned before on this site and more. It would be outrageous that Fein would be considered the favorite in this "National" search.

If this is true, there are no words to describe my dissappointment. So it'll be much of the same.

Agreed all the way. His only qualification at this point is that he is on campus.  His offenses have been average at best in every year since 2009, and when they have worked it's been due to tremendous individual players like Scheurman and Ross.  His QB's haven't developed, he can't run the ball and his units have no consistency.  What program would make an internal hire when the team and program are absolutely dreadful?

We have some tremendous candidates for head coach, and if these idiots hire Fein we may as well give up around here.

Can someone who knows Bruce please call him and talk some sense into this man.

Strong cases can be made for Trox, Loose, Cramsey and others.  I have preferences but any of those guys, or someone like them, would be a solid choice and I can understand the decision. There is no rational argument for Mickey Fein. None. How has hiring Grentz worked out so far Bruce?

Those who can do.   Those who can't, Administer athletic programs at Lafayette.

I think loyalty is great and admirable, but in this case it would make the firing and the replacement process a joke.

Mickey would not get a head coach offer at a comparable school and presumably has never gotten one - or he'd have taken it.   Does that tell the hiring committee anything about what his peers in the market think of him?

If they hire Fein I'm done !

Is this true?
I'm going to email Bruce now and attempt to convince him that hiring Mickey makes no sense and he will lose any credibility he has left.

That's not a bad bunch - hoping this is just a bad rumor.

If Fein is hired as head coach, it will amount to a virtual contract extension for Frank Tavani and a ratification of all that has come before. The implication is staggering.

The pragmatist in me says that Fein has been told that he is being "seriously considered" and that he has a "fine chance" or (some such thing) but that the focus is on an outside candidate.

Or maybe this is just "Fake News Friday."

Committee make sense to me (Kirby included because his family endows the HC).  So how could this group possibly think that Fein is the best candidate for the job?

I can just read it now.

So "excited" that Coach Fein has accepted . . . . welcome the "change" and "new direction" . . . . "extensive experience" with Lafayette and the Patriot League . . . "familiar with" the program and the recruits . . . . blah, blah, blah.

You know what? Don't even bother. Spare everyone the platitudes. Just come out a say it - you took the chickenshit route, gave in to Tavani and essentially extended his contract via his hand-picked successor.

I hope nobody is surprised if Tavani is seen mumbling along the sidelines next fall as "coach emeritus" or some such thing. He'll probably keep his corner office, too; he can't bear the notion of some other guy farting in his chair.

I'm guessing this is all rumors and speculation.   First we probably don't have any accurate information about who has actually applied for the job, much less interviewed.    Second, since applications may still be coming in, for anyone to be the front runner before interviews is a bizarre statement.

But hey, no one said we're normal, so anything is possible.

I will say if the committee (which looks about as good as we could have hoped) were to select Fein, I would give him a chance.  I agree with the assement of his resume in an earlier post, but you never can tell who will make a good HC and who won't (and for that matter, how much say Fein really had under FT).

I chalk this more up to we are all wanting information that just doesn't exist, and someone who knows something, but not a lot did some speculating

If this rumor proves true, I will (on this Board) continue to refer to the Head Football Coach as "Frank Tavani" and "Tavani" for all purposes. If the new Head Football Coach prefers another name, I will not use it. He will have no other name.

Now, Coach Fein is a terrific guy from all I have heard. It's just that it would be best if he were to go be Coach Fine someplace else. While he ramians at Lafayette, henceforth I will call him Frank Tavani.

Also I will refer to him and the schemes he runs as "Frankosaurus." I will post mildly disparaging "fan art" of a dinosaur with his head superimposed. I will poke fun at him, the AD, the administration, the faculty and the program as a whole using a "chalkboard" with said dinosaur. I will add frequent appearances by "Zippy the Pinhead" just to drive the point home, when appropriate. I will create and employ comedic, theme-appropriate avatars expressing my great displeasure and I will distribute them to others (with detailed instructions about how to launch them).

All of this I promise.

Since I have enough to be pissed off about this week I'm going to assume that coach F APPEARS to be the front-runner because he happens to be on campus and not get too worked up....

However random food for though - we didn't have much faith Tavani could do much of anything and he DID get the job done. I also recall when Lehigh hired their defensive coordinator off of a horrible defensive team and Kevin Higgins certainly turned out OK for them.

Yes - I'm trying to soften the blow, but I'll be ridiculously PO'd if Fein is the HC.

Not true, and I spoke with a person very close to football and athletics.

My understanding is nobody is being "pushed". There is a search firm advising the college in addition to the "committee.
