I cannot imagine this is true. Heck, most if the team doesn't even like him. This has to be rumor.

Heard the same thing, though I defer to your source. Fein is apparently not well respected by the players. If he is appointed, then I expect that will lead to transfer requests from some of the better, young players.

In contrast, McFadden appears to be really well regarded even by the DBs, who took a lot of sh*t from him for arm-tackling etc. I really hope that he stays.

This is disturbing ,it sounds like the administration is taking the easy way out like it did when it hired Grentz, just days after Nolan was fired.

Maybe they expect the consulting firm to fix all our problems or maybe they expect to blame everything on them.

Time - and to be fair she hasn't had much of that-will tell if the Grentz hire works out. Even if it doesn't,  there's a difference between hiring a hall of fame basketball coach who had only been around one season and a coordinator whose body of work on the field has been less than spectacular.

What do you guys think a Loose hiring would mean to Link?  I'm inclined to think they would be oil and water - and might prompt the later"s departure,

If an outsider is hired a housecleaning is likely and necessary. We will lose some people, but the culture must be changed.

Agree.  Just seems a Link exit is more certain under Loose v alternatives.  And given performance of D in past two years I'm ok with that.

Link and Loose play different defenses if given a choice. I wouldn't  assume that if Loose were head coach that Link would automatically be gone. Coaches know how to coach different defenses.

What I will say is the coordinator positions are most important to a head coach. They usually want someone that can coach the style of football they dem most effective and someone they can bond with on several fronts. Most new head coaches hire their own coordinators.

This is an interesting hire for LC. We will learn a lot from this hire. While I have no idea who they will hire, I really hope they look at several different options. Most programs even retain a recruitor to help them through this. There are sports recruitrs just like business. Plus it comes in handy when approaching coaches at other schools. Give both parties the chance to say they have not been approached by a school r the school can say they have not contacted a person of interest.

FWIW, Fein at today's hoops contest. Back in jeans and a sweatshirt.

From a coaching perspective, when the scheme is executed correctly, prefer Link's system over Loose.  Observed Loose defenses closely for four years.  Tempo is slow, and play calls take too long to be signaled onto field.  I respect his (Looses') coaching acumen, but like the Link system overall.  I prefer attack, rather than react.

I expect the new head coach to hire a coordinator that runs a system suitable to the personnel available at LC.
