The Georgetown DC will be out new DC. Really like this hire as the Hoya's D had been very solid of late. Also like that we have at least one guy with lots of PL experience, in addition to McFadden and Dell.

I like this pic a lot for the reasons you mentioned. I was becoming slightly worried that there wasn't anyone on staff who knows how to navigate the PL waters - this is a great choice.

Not sure anyone would conclude that NFL playing experience equates to being a good coach.  Could see it helping with recruiting.

FB twitter confirms this is first official visit weekend.

I saw nothing to suggest that Luke Thompson was on the outs at Georgetown. He's made a lateral move - within the conference, no less. We will be accused of poaching. What gives?

Drew Folmar, the OC at Lehigh, is leaving for the same job at Elon under Curt Cignetti.  Lehigh coaches seem to have a thing for Elon.  Anyway I'm heartbroken that Lehigh will have to replace their top assistant.

Maybe the fact that G-town doesn't seem to be making any moves toward scholarships had something to do with the decision for Thompson. He may want to find out if he'll get to work with better kids at a scholarship program, hoping to move on from Lafayette at some point -- or maybe, even, becoming head coach if/when JG moves on.

I saw another post about Folmar going to Elon. I think he was a candidate for HC of the Leopards. His departure at LU will make for an interesting decision for Coach Coen.

Probably 50 reasons why Thompson left, but all factors indicate he didn't leave because he had to.  Perhaps he just really wants to coach with JG, and win, which can help his career development.  Perhaps she was weary of the situation at Geoegetown.  Perhaps he got s decent raise or realized his money offers a better lifestyle for his family here rather than DC.  Whatever the reasons I'm glad he's here.  The Georgetown D's were always very sound fundamentally and well coached.  He has been in the leader a fair amount of time and can help the other others on staff get acquainted.  Very solid hire.

Also I believe Folmar may have been contacted, but don't believe he was interviewed according to our very accurate mole.  He did a great job at Lehigh so good for him on the promotion.  The new DC at Elon will be Tony Triciani, who also coached at Lehigh and Nova and Whitehall High.  Damian Wrobleski has been retained as well, so lots of guys with valley tied down at Elon.

Does the hiring of Thompson mean that the Pards will play a 4-3-4 as their base defense?

JG said he wanted a DC that can run a 4-3 or 3-4 and change based on personnel.  The 4-2 seems the gone with Link's tremendous inability to adjust.

Thanks.

Based upon our returning players, it appears that the strength of the D will be the DL, where we have a lot of talent and depth. The good news is that some of our current DL players are athletic and may have the ability to play LB.

On paper, LB looks weak from a 4-3 perspective due to the lack of depth, lack of  MLB types etc. From a 3-4 perspective, we also lack depth and will probably have to convert several of the athletic DEs to outside LB.

DB looks good in terms of talent and depth, but there is a real need for some to improve their tackling, and learn to play with discipline.

Wonderful. We have no players that can convert to a true strong olber. We just spent the last 2 years converting the one or two we had to de. We don't have a player on roster that can make that conversion. Oh someone will, but we don't have the tall 230 guy that can run. This is going back to the Loose type defense. I'm good with this move. We never stopped the run. Doesn't do much good to try to stop the pass when they can run it on you. They never have to pass. We really missed Chris Brockman last year. He made the 4-2-5 work. Jerry Powe was coming along.

Bartel and Thompson were just interviewed at halftime of the Navy bb game. Defense to fit the talents of the player; focus on fundamentals especially tackling; offense will be QB-centered; team and coaches will take their cues from Garrett.

Sounds like a dual threat type QB, which I like in our league.

Was at the B ball game today.  Coach Garrett was all over shaking hands and kissing babies.  He spent a ton of time schmoozing with parents... He is a smart man.  We've said many times that the PL is  QB league.  Overall talent levels are not all that different typically, and QB play is often the difference.  With Moorhead and Folmar gone, it is fair to say that we will have the best QB coaches in the league with Bartel and JG.  QB's should be lining up to play for these guys.  McCrum and Northrop have all the tools, and looking forward to seeing what our new coaches can do with these two, as well as any potential new additions.

Any way to tell which other recruits were there?   I was going to go to the game, but the Honey-Do list took over my life

Paul Reinhard on the staff selection. IDs the latest addition. Some good stuff on recruiting, too:

Georgetown announced in 2012 it is not adding scholarships, period. All the coaches know this.

I remember when Lafayette announced it was "not adding scholarships, period." At least twice.

I'm going to stereotype here and guess that Nudelberg will play the role of the Belichickian evil genius on the staff.

It's been five years and there's zero movement to change the inconvenient truth--there's  no solid financial reason to spend $4-5M on football and finish in fifth place instead of sixth.

As long as Georgetown is recruiting within one standard deviation on an average SAT of 1490, as long as it is playing on facilities better suited to a high school team, and as long as it holds no schedule ambitions outside losing to the Ivy League, the argument collapses of its own weight. But as someone from the Engineers' message board put it, if Georgetown added 60 scholarships, they wouldn't be playing in the Patriot League, either.

Hearing that Coach Dell is resigning from his coaching position to take a non-coaching job.
