With all of the new pieces of the Lafayette football program, how will spring training camp be different? Will we be hitting in practice or will we still be doing donut rolls?

A head football coach who actually works, and is competent. Otherwise who knows, but I have faith that practice will be run properly.

Coach Garrett has said there will be a lot of teaching this spring, I think, because new systems have to be put in place and players will have to be schooled in the style that Garrett plans to use. Fifteen practices in the spring will go flying by. If he is having a spring ga,e on April 22, the players will have to know a lot in a short amount of time. Every day should be interesting.

Agree with sideliner, the purpose of spring for a new staff with new systems (both sides of the ball) will be to get the system and terminology ingrained in the players.

I would think there will also be a focus on strength and conditioning.

This way you hit August and are able to focus on execution and improvement, not who should be doing what

Our tackling left much to be desired last year. I was surprised when the lack of live tackling wasn't pointed to as one of the reasons. However, if I recall correctly, the job description in the on-line HC want-ad included something like "will take action to minimize head trauma" so donuts aren't going away, except maybe on Sunday mornings.

I think the goal of Garrett this spring and beyond is, in the immortal words of Joe Maddon, "Try not to suck".

That way you can avoid halftime interviews like this gem by Tavani

Andy, can't confirm yet, but have heard that there will be a live scrimmage at the end of spring practice.

I believe the ivies are severely restricting contact drills and Dartmouth has been out in front eliminating contact in practice.   Now it helps if you can shell out for remote controlled tackling dummies, but a lot of our poor tackling was the result of very poor techinique.    Head up, wrap up, go through the target.

I agree, the technique was the problem. I watched the clips on Dartmouth tackling drills in practice. They spend a lot of time working on it with the dummies. The simulations of the different phases of tackling are pretty close. The only other option, when you don't have the dummy system they have, is teaching how to hit without using your head. Both ways are done with intensity and some full speed practice. If you practice just thudding, good running backs will break your tackle.

My friend Xbozo says "spring game" will be full game conditions. Cool! However, he also reports hearing voices and has taken to wearing a foil cap for protection "from the microwaves." So......

Anybody have information on spring practice schedule? I know it starts the week of March 21st. With the game being April 22, they have 4 !/2 weeks to do 14 practices.

Last year was the first in memory that we didn't get a Spring Prospectus.  If that is the case again, Paul R. will no doubt help us out with a schedule.

People on the sports side have said the starting and finishing dates are the only ones coach Garrett has released at this time. Spring consists of 15 practices and in the past have gone every other day for the most part. Info is slow coming out, but that could be because of all the prep work the staff has to do for the first spring camp.

Thanks!

Looking for an updated roster as well. Tweets indicating uniform number changes not reflected on most recent roster (losses or just # switching?) and position changes, i.e. - Pearson at WR.  Speed!
