According to rivals.com, Ethan Swerdlow http://footballrecruiting.rivals....pect.asp?pr_key=84131&sport=1, a 5'11" kicker/punter from La Jolla, CA. has verbally committed to Lafayette.  Welcome aboard Ethan!

Kicker and punter- great at both. WOW! Frank getting commitments a year in advance. Could there be others to follow ( this early)? I hear yes; more in the pipeline.

Hey, this is great--an early signing and from Cali no less!  Nice job by the staff. Welcome, Ethan!

Good pick-up, T, I'd seen Ethan's listing on scout.com but the signing is a pleasant surprise. Looking forward to more disclosures from ranger, too.

An earlier article mentions other interested schools:

San Diego Punter, Swerdlow, pulls in first offer…
Ethan Swerdlow, La Jolla HS, grabbed his first offer from Lafayette College of the Patriot League on Wednesday (6/4).  Ethan is a highly recruited punter/kicker from San Diego, CA. Currently, Ethan is getting recruited by UPENN, Butler, Princeton and Dartmouth.

“We look forward for more offers for Ethan, he is one of the best in San Diego in punting in the 09 class.  Lafayette is great fit for Ethan! Its a great feeling knowing he has a college option a year before he graduates. Ethan is a great student first and I think his grades helped him in his recruiting ”  –John Matich, Owner The Kicking System

Welcome aboard Ethan.

Now I will ask the obvious questions.  How can he commit to Lafayette if we a) don't have scholarships and b) the Admissions Office has not begun to admit the class of 2013 yet?

He cant-- it is just a verbal agreement that means nothing really.   Even schools that offer scholarships cant officially sign a kid yet (I believe) that all comes on letter of intent signing day in Feb. Kids back out of this stuff all the time.  He is probably a very good student as well who will get in no problem with the backing of the FB office, but he certainly wouldnt be admitted yet.

Welcome Ethan - interesting style - more punch at the ball and less of the classic high leg follow through - but if the video's stats are correct who cares.

A friend advises that while in the  Bergen County high school of a recruit of mutual interest, a Lehigh recruiter was referring to us as "the junior college up the road" (in the spirit of "The Rivalry,"  I'm sure").  Not sure if  the fact that the "junior college" had defeated the Evil Empire five of last six arose.

Lehigh alums and recruiters can't overcome their arrogance. Their talk will continue and our staff will beat them on and off the field. Good luck Lehigh ; keep up the talk- it continues to hurt you with recruits. Their families tell us what jerks their coaches are. Lehigh's incoming class is seen as the 6th best in the conference; just barely ahead of Bucknell.
After we kill them in first jv game again this year, they will want to do a pass skelton for the second game like last year. Keep talking because the "brown" that comes out of your mouths sends recruits and their parents running  to us.

Juvenile name calling is the sign of desperation. I love it  Laughing

Ranger indicates there's a pattern of this behavior which I find surprisingly unprofessional if not unethical.  Also apparently ineffective.

The s/a in this case (not a high priority recruit) decided that LC did not offer his desired course of study.
